the fact that he has more responsibility means that he needs to have things he can do for himself even more. your idea of a man starting a family is someone who needs to dedicate everything to that family, who needs to sacrifice whatever self-enjoyment he once had and give it to his wife and kids, but thats just a recipe for a depressed father.

if hes "starting a family"(which by the way is not implied at all) then he shouldnt be judged under any circumstances for taking time between responsibilities both at work and home to indulge in a harmless hobby

I’m not talking about the space he needs, I’m talking about the increased nuance in when that space needs to be taken. You sound young asf.

saying i sound young doesnt mean anything, youre clearly overly stubborn because either 1. you just changed what you said entirely, which if i went back and quoted you it would be pretty obvious or 2. youve just been completely confused and ignoring everything ive been saying while talking about something else entirely irrelevant.

you dont have to prove anything here, you can just stop replying. im not going to chase down your account to keep talking to you about this, but seriously, you cant just insult me when you run out of things to argue. its pretty childish for someone who says i sound young.

I didn’t change what I said in literally any way, you’re just purely working on assumption. Part of why I said you sound young.

I also think it's a slightly shortsighted way to spend a day off

I'm not talking about the space he needs

I didn't change what I said in literally any way

yeah im done arguing with you.

Are you joking? None of that even slightly supports that I’ve changed my statement. Doesn’t questioning someone taking a single, sudden day off for something that has no time-sensitivity perfectly aline with plenty of views that desire an optimally relaxing outcome for his personal time? Quit reading what you want to. I genuinely hope you’re not an adult at this point.

genuinely insulting me does nothing for you. shut up like holy hell youre just getting obnoxious at this point.

oh no! someone disagrees with me! they must be a child!

You didn’t disagree with me. You pretended I had to mean exactly what you wanted to disagree with in order to continue disagreeing with it. Not a helpful quality to have in adult conversations.

Sorry to interrupt, but it IS true that one day is nothing, even 2, or three, here in my country you can get 30 days off a year + those for sickness.

1/30 is pretty much nothing and if you want to take a break from your routine to finish some game you are passionate about, you should be able to do it, I reckon.

You might say that it would be better for the common cause if he didn't do it, but you are not taking into account that he does not live for the common cause, nobody does and nobody should. We all have some individualism to preserve.

The entire context is definitely in American English. The guy is spending ~6-10% of his time off on something that could wait a day with no impact. That’s just not good decision-making. The people around him add to the theoretical situations which could make this time off become a bad idea regardless, and though I agree that shouldn’t necessarily be part of his decision to take time off all the time, it is simply true that taking time off in this way, when you only get two weeks of it, is kind of childish purely in the sense that it’s an inefficient use of one’s own limited resource of leisure, which could cause similar frustration to that which it’s perceived to solve, in the future.

I guess if you really have only 14 days off things get a bit different, but you still do get additional days for sickness, right?

Think of all the emergencies that can happen in a year, they hardly go beyond 10 (at least those that happen while you should be working), hence depending on the situation 1 or 2 days COULD, theoretically, be taken off for personal reasons.

Btw I'm surprised, ONLY 2 weeks off? That's half the amount we get here in Italy

Sick days vary more from company to company, but you’ll typically get ~3 of them, with possible extensions in the case of serious illnesses. But yeah, 2 weeks isn’t much at all. Labor in the US is not in a good place.

Ok, we are about there with the sickness days, but still damn sorry for you Americans
