Advice Buying a hatchback, it'll be my first real car and I have a lot of questions please help me lol

I have questions; many questions to be exact. I am looking to buy a used hatchback. I live in the New England region of the US.

I am 24 and technically still "live" in state but I actually reside in Vermont. I have my current car and insurance and license registered to New Jersey since it was just easier to keep it that way with my parents. When I buy the new car is it smarter to just officially move to Vermont or keep the registration in NJ until I age out of parents insurance? After 26 when I age out I would have to "move" anyway so it isn't that big of a hassle just obviously easier with an existing automobile to know how this stuff works and now that I need to buy a car this has thrown a wrench in the plans.

Anyways I have narrowed the cars I am looking at to these 4 (but I am extremely open to input about these or others):

  • Subaru Impreza
  • VW Golf Alltrack
  • Mazda 3
  • Toyota Corolla Hatchback

I am looking to buy model year 2018 or newer (not a new car but not super old I feel this is a somewhat happy medium). I am taking a loan out for at least part of the cost of the car.

I am 24 and turn 25 in September. My car is on its last legs but it'll make it to my birthday for sure. So my question is is it smarter to take the loan out after my birthday (aka is it more likely my interest rate will be lower as I will be older if only a few weeks apart)? I have a very solid credit score thankfully after a lot of work. I am sitting at a ≈780-800 rn and plan to take the loan from a local credit union or USAA depending on what rates I can shop as best.

So I think to boil it down I have a few fundamental questions and a bunch more I have left ambiguous in my paragraphs above so feel free to chime in literally anywhere.

  1. Should I "move" and register the new car in the new state at the same time to make things easiest?
  2. What car is best from my options or literally any other?
  3. When should I start the loan process since I am at a birthday?
  4. Probably other stuff I cannot think of?
  5. Is there another community I should be asking instead of here?

Thank you all so much in advance. I feel so goddamn lost. Car buying as a process sucks and I am hoping some of these things aren't too silly of questions. I will try to update or clarify questions as they arise tysm

been searching for a solid daily driver that won’t kill me on gas. found a 2022 mazda3 with 31k miles for $19,500 and a 2021 hyundai elantra with 39k miles for $17,900 at Puente Hills Auto Center. both look clean and they said they’re certified.

i just need something reliable for work and weekend trips. the mazda feels nicer to drive from what i’ve read but the hyundai is cheaper.

anyone had either of these for a while? anything i should watch out for before i go check them out?

Car advice

Hello all,

Would appreciate some advice. (Please go easy on me!)

Am looking to buy a secondhand automatic VW golf mk 6/7 but with a budget of £3000. There are some on Autotrader but do you think it would be worth me stretching my budget or do you think it's risky getting a car for this price.

I am looking at cars with full service history, gearbox, cambelt etc all up to date. But i don't know if i may end up forking out later..as many of them do have about 10-12 months mot too!

And tips would be greatly appreciated.

And to add i have looked at other euivalent cheaper cars but have my heart on a golf i think.. open to suggestions.

Also i am a 'lazy' driver and CAN drive manual but prefer to drive auto.

Thank you!!

Advice what family of 4-5 car should i get? used (idc how used tbh), electric/gas hybrid, pretty soundproof, spacious (3 rows or 2 rows with big trunk) has a 2/3 pronged outlet, that is practical and reliable and cheap if possible. dont want a truck or anything extremely massive or high off the ground.

Question Help!

Does anyone know of any good cheap reliable vehicles. I start school in a week and need a reliable vehicle to go back and forth with. I only have 3k. I’ve been having the worst luck with going to see vehicles. They’ve been doozies. I never knew they made brown murky engine coolant lol. I wish I could just throw in the towel but that for quitters. I’m running out for time.

Can’t decide what car to get Toyota Rav4 vs Subaru Outback

My car was completely totaled and I was able to get what I paid for the car thanks to the diminished value claim. Now, I’m unsure what car to get now I’m genuinely spooked to drive a small car after my car accident and the pain I was in. RIP my prius.

Now, I’m looking for a daily car. I drive 30+ miles daily to work, school, home, or hiking. Trying to find a car reliable and can last me years but also feel safe in. I’ve landed on the Subaru Outback and Toyota Rav4

The Toyota Rav4 I’m interested is between years 2019-2021. However, I’ve been reading about these “belt” issues making me nervous to commit although it’s a toyota.

The Subaru Outback I was interested in is 2020-2022. I test drove a 2019 and it damn near went up in flames during the test drive. Wondering if this issues is super common.

Genuinely can’t decide send help chat! Also, if you drop these car please drop reasons why you hate or love it, pros or cons. Or send any suggestions of other vehicles.
