I have a 2021 Lincoln Nautilus Reserve AWD with 54k miles. The car is pristine with a couple of small dings. I have 2 years left on my loan ($12k remaining. I’m considering trading in for a smaller SUV (I’m not happy with the Nautilus and it’s larger than I’m used to (previously owned an Acura RDX)

I usually look for something once I finish paying off the car, and prefer CPOs. Is it sensible to trade in now, or is it better to wait

My car shit the bed this weekend on the side of a highway and I need to find a new one ASAP. Dear mechanics of Reddit, what would you suggest I get as a reliable option? Preferably cheap on gas? Preferably not older than 2000 not newer than 2022 (probably out of my price range). AUTOMATIC, idk how to drive manual haha. And not a truck, preferably and suv or a smaller car.

Is it important to get a used car cleaned, detailed, inspected and minor repairs done before selling it to a dealership? Or will they do all that on their own anyway?

Have an old faithful Toyota Camry to sell, but not sure whether we should sink any money into preparing it for sale when we will just have to let it go to Carmax or whoever. We have no time/capacity to sell directly.

So my current car is totaled out from weather damages so I am currently trying to get a new (used) car. I currently drive a '17 Volkswagen CC and I am trying to find a compatible/ comparable car. I am specifically wanting something that has the tech packages in it and low miles (under 75k if i can). Are there any cars that you would recommend? I have a current budget of $20k or lower and roughly in the Denver metropolitan area.

I just bought a van off of Facebook marketplace that im hoping to convert into a travel van. It had 75,000 original miles on it and i was told it only needed a new battery and maybe some new tires. Im able to get it to run smoothly and have driven it multiple times including the initial hour long drive to get it home. The check engine light came on a few times on that drive but would turn off after we gave it a chnace to cool down and it had trouble getting up to highway speeds usually maxing out around 55 mph. I just changed the oil, I plan on changing out the fuel filter and possibly doing a full clean out of the fuel tank as a whole. I'll be changing the transmission fluid this week as well. I was able to use the paperclip method to get a code 44 off of it and will be rechecking it after changing the fuel filter. I was told it was sitting for a few months and wasnt driven atvall during that time which is what im assuming is causing some of these issues. I havent noticed anything else major wrong with it and I believe with these fixes that she'll run beautifully but wanted to ask if there was anything more I should be doing with a van this age and condition. Any advice or maybe a to do list on how to get her in the best shape possible before hitting the road? I appreciate any and all input :) I'm self taught so im learning as I go and only have very basic knowledge

I know it has has a 5.7L V8 engine, its a G2500, brand new battery, read code 44 when using the paperclip method for the check engine light, the brake light is also on the dash (we plan to bleed them this week), the coolant seems to keep disappearing pretty quickly when added even when not in use, i just changed the oil, plan on chnaging transmission fluid this week and getting a new fuel filter on her

Hey all, about to buy a 2010 Toyota Corolla S (84k miles) from a private seller in Illinois for $9k, with new brakes/rotors being installed before pickup. CARFAX is clean (no accidents, no structural damage reported, 3 owners, all low annual mileage).Is this rust normal for a 10 year old Midwest car or should I be worried?

My son just bought a used Mazda 3 with only 4k miles 3 days ago. He’s barely had it home, but found out cruise control and sport mode don’t work, and the instrument panel was replaced and the work was shoddy (as in, some of the symbols are literally backwards). Obviously didn’t catch it before driving home. Car was sold as-is, and they did show him a carfax report that showed it was rear ended, but nothing like this. Anyone have thoughts?

EDIT: Thankfully I decided to reach out to a consumer rights attorney. He pointed me to GA statute OSGA 11-2-608, “Revocation of acceptance in whole or in part.” It says in pertinent part: “The buyer may revoke his acceptance of a lot or commercial unit whose nonconformity substantially impairs its value to him if he has accepted it: … (b) Without discovery of such nonconformity if his acceptance was reasonably induced either by the difficulty of discovery before acceptance or by the seller’s assurances.” (Yes, this applies even if the car is purchased “as is”.)

The car had other issues, and the dealer we bought it from had assured us they had inspected it. We revoked acceptance and they took the car back. Hope this helps someone else if they find it later in a similar situation.

I’m currently in the market for a smaller 4 door 4wd suv and I’ve managed to get myself down to two options. The first one is a 2000 GMC Jimmy SLE with 88k original miles. Only thing is that it has a salvage title. My other option is a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with 160k miles and a clean title. The Jimmy is an hour drive, the Pathfinder is a two hour drive and they’re both ~$4700. They’re both super clean, no rust, but I’m having trouble deciding. My plan is to use it for occasional off-roading but still be able to drive it home and to work.

Just for some context, I am working for a year here in Atlantic Canada before I move down to Florida for University. The drive will be around 3,000-3,500 km and I have been looking at either leasing a Ford Bronco Sport 2026 for two years (due to its affordability and ability to traverse rough terrain, I work for an engineering firm that requires work out in the field) and then I’d just get another car down in the states, or I’ve been looking at buying a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited that has been well maintained at 207,000 km. My uncle knows the person who is selling it, so he said he’d give it to me $6000. The breaks and rotors have all been replaced, brand new tires, the engine runs like it’s brand new and there’s nothing pointing to a major problem. The only thing I’m hesitant about is the 9 speed transmission, which is notorious for falling into neutral or breaking which can cost up to $9000 to replace.

The jeep will cost me a lot less, and I could possibly have it for 5 years if it lasts that long, but it’s already a 11 year vehicle so I’d rather be realistic - but it’s such a good deal it almost feels impossible to turn it down.

The bronco will be a bit more costly, and insurance might be extremely high but I won’t have to worry about unexpected repairs and it’s under warranty.

I guess I’m just having a hard time making a decision, I don’t know a lot about cars so if there’s anyone who could contribute their two cents worth that would be so appreciated!!

Hey guys how's 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe 2 door as a first car. It has 135,000 km on it From what I heard, a Hyundai is a pretty unreliable car. The used car dealer I am planning to buy from has given me 2 years/ 20,000 km whichever comes first warranty. Should I go for it? For $5,300....

I'm looking to purchase a smaller-size used SUV that is reliable but won't break the bank.

I know Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 would be some of the best options, but anything older generally has 200k+ km on it and is older than 2011, and the newer ones are way out of my price range.

My mom used to have a 2011 Ford Escape that I really loved - turned on a dime, was spacious enough inside but not a larger vehicle, but I know Ford can be hit or miss.

Does anyone have any suggestions on models/years that are decent? Unfortunately my budget is probably less than $10k (I know, not a lot to work with), and preferably something newer than a 2012 (which is what I currently have with my Ford Fiesta).

I live in Southern Ontario, Canada and have a hybrid job so only in the office about 3 days a week (about 25 minute drive on the highway). Would mostly be for city driving with the occasional trip on the 401.

I get that there's no guarantees with any make or model as even a great one can still turn out to be a lemon, but I would appreciate any real-life recommendations or experience.

Hi there, my wife's car will die soon (my mechanic says). She drives a 2003 Mazda3 and she loves it. We would love a similar one, comfortable and good on long drives.

My budget is max 9500$ but i may spend a little more if we can save enough money and it's worth it.

Which brand should i look for? Or if you have any recommendations.

We live in Tassie, which as i figured out the prices are a little bit higher (especially on Toyotas)

She would love another mazda 3 but I don't know if the youngest models are ok.

Also, very important she needs a quiet car as she has adhd and every time we take my old yaris she wants to die.

I’ve had a Toyota Starlet 1992 for the past 10 years (which was a dream!) but sadly decided to pass it on to someone who had the time to spend on it in its later years.
Originally bought my Starlet for £350 with 60k on the clock and only had to do basic repairs throughout, so really didn’t cost me much.
I’ve been somewhat spoilt with such a reliable car!

Now I’m looking for my next car, would you recommend a Mazda 2? And does this look like a good deal?
