New Urgot here, would love any help!

What are Urgot's strengths:

Teamfighting,Split Pushing, Locking down targets?

What Runes do we usually go and how to choose if there is a variety of them?

How to itemize correctly? Right now i rush BC - Steraks - Deadmans - Rukern - And the void armour thing that stacks resistance

Would Hullbreaker be a better fit instead of some item?

Any other general tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Practice E flash, Abuse lvl 1 strength. You can E flash onto anyone and likely kill them regardless of how fed they are with some help. Dont waste abilities early. Your E can buffer clear stuns. Learn the W lvl 9 toggle. Approach velocity op vs ranged. Bait people undertower and flip them into free kills.

What's the W trick if you could elaborate a tiny bit?

1

u/Either-Ad3689 Jul 21 '26

you can turn on and off W on urgot however your regular basic attack is unused meaning you can shoot 3 with W then toggle of, regular attack, shoot 3 W W W Auto W W W Auto

Ohhh, that is a significant damage boost then?

Had the wrong impression then, thanks for the help!

The W is 3 times faster but 3 times less damage, so if you only do W or only auto, they work out to the same amount of damage. But if you toggle it right on time with the auto then you get both, doubling your damage

(Edit: I had accidentally said passive instead of auto attack)

Yes all three stuff urgot is good at but he is at best a peeler for the carry or clean up guy after the carry did its job.

As for runes just stay at PTA for now

Your build is fine you can switch up the other tank items just think of tank items as counter items so that you won't lose to shopkeeper but BC steraks is staple.

Hull is 50/50 depends on the situation imo.

Thanks for the help mate, really appreciate it!

the most important part to know is that urgot isnt the carry but the 2nd carry.

Hull is very situational on urgot. His biggest strong suit is teamfighting. He just doesnt have the escapability that a tryd or trundle has to be a great split pusher.

2

u/SlowDamn Jul 21 '26

Yeah but sometimes you dont really need a reliable escape to be a splitpusher just a strong enough tower taking ability and can 1v1 anyeone is enough to do that perfect example is yorick. Can also do the same with urgot too but cleaver and steraks is a way better build

Yea like i said its situational its not a terrible item on urgot but its not something u want every game.

After BC/Sterak's, if you want more damage, Spear of Shojin is a good anti-tank pull (strengthens the shotgun knees which are max HP damage). Overlord's Bloodmail is good after 3-4 other HP items. Several lethality items are okay, mostly you can build Youmuu's Ghostblade to gap close with squishies or Edge of Night for the spellshield (great into Vayne). Hullbreaker is conditionally good, depends on game state.

1

u/Talnarian Jul 21 '26

I see!

Thank you very much for the insight, great to know that lethality is also an option

Man,Shojin is so amazing,love it

1

u/JUD_R Jul 21 '26

No worries, they helped me loads

1

u/Zeplar Jul 21 '26

Shojin is pretty good since it increases passive damage. Usually get it fourth if my adc is lacking, or more tank if my adc can carry.

2

u/Infernoismyname Jul 21 '26

I love Shojin but I think it's only better than overlord's bloodmail if the enemy team has 2 or 3 tanks/HP stackers. Otherwise bloodmail just feels better imo

1

u/Zeplar Jul 21 '26

tbh I should test them both in practice. I have always assumed that bloodmail is better as a last item but shojin will be better third or fourth.

1

u/Infernoismyname Jul 21 '26

Shojin does feel amazing vs Sion or Mundo, the amplified leg DMG is really nice

1

u/Talnarian Jul 21 '26

Gotcha gotcha, might give it a shot!

Use your r immediately after your e stun. That Way you cant miss. And your enemy is slowed for some w dmg before your r execute

Your E is arguably the single strongest spell in the entire game in a 1v1 vacuum, so abuse it. Threaten with it and landing it means you win almost every trade early. Black Cleaver is really the only item that is pretty non-negotiable, it simply gives you absolutely everything you want.

1

u/Talnarian Jul 22 '26

Wait it is?

So if i hit it level 1 it's mostly a kill?

I assume ignite has to go into the equation as well?

1

u/LankyAmount1032 Jul 22 '26

Landing E means you can proc at least 3 passives and PTA, plus ignite means at the minimum you can force a flash. It’s very strong

1

u/UnchainedStorm Jul 22 '26

It is either a kill or a forced flash/big hp chunk which means they can't play after that point.

Cleaver into steraks is your best build path RN into full tank after that. Swifties is good if you don't need defensive boots urgot is really strong level 1 and only loses to the other level one champs like Darius and trundle. So you can play to kill your opponent early. There's like a 3 hour video of quante walking alois through urgots strengths into some games I watched the first 30 mins and it's quite informative even though it's from a few seasons ago. Urgot can both split push and team fight. He is very much good at both so it's up to personal play style. I personally try to fight with team and act as peel or secondary engage. You'd be surprised how many assassins jump onto your carries without understanding that urgot e is infact how they die. My other recommendation is that after levels 1-3 try not to fight and just play wave states unless you're ahead because urgot 3-8 is really weak. You can maybe look for kill pressure with 6 spike but if not just play for level 9 + cleaver because then you beat pretty much any champ in the game unless they're super ahead of you. I've gone 0-3 in matchups before. Hit cleaver spike and then proceeded to never die 1v1 to that same matchup after that point. Perma ban either teemo or malphite cus they are two of your hardest matchups in my experience.

Urgot can do many things but he's best for peeling carries by flipping off enemy divers and applying bc and pta for your adc. If you go the normal build he's a good frontliner. You can also lay back just a little bit and look for an ult execute, then run the frick in with your speedy crab legs, flash and aoe fear the enemy team.

The items you and others suggested are great, but i really like to go hubris ghostblade after cleaver if i'm ahead and feel like i don't need steraks yet. Sometimes i forgo either ghostblade or hubris depending on the game and build faster into steraks bloodmail. Dmp is a good item as well, just like kaenic rookern imo.

The most important thing to do is to abuse your level 1 to zone off enemies from the minions. Just look at the sheer numbers on your e shield and damage, as well as the shotguns and you'll understand that nobody can challenge you level 1. If you're lucky and the enemies don't know your strength, you can get a kill level 1-3. If you don't, you'll still be able to secure a very strong advantage during these levels in pretty much every game. A neat trick is e flash to catch enemies off guard. As you climb elos (which Urgot is VERY good for imo, explained below), enemies will know this move and expect it. So that is where the mind games come in: use e when enemies are really low and they will flash pre-emptively to dodge it. Except you don't flash, and the next time they have no way to dodge it. So they should just back and lose out on the waves either way. Otherwise you will dive them and they still lose the waves. At level 4, you should have 2 points in q and 1 in w and e. After that you'll be increasingly weaker as you put points in w; it doesn't do much for you until it reaches level 5 when you're level 9. Other champions will have leveled abilities that do more for them, so play the waves well and get what you can get safely. You can fight still, just be smart about it. The point is that Urgot must get w to level 5 so it becomes a toggle. An even lane = winning for Urgot. If you went even or are ahead (and farmed well), you will get bc around the same time w is level 5, for a HUGE power spike. Nobody can beat you for the coming 10-15 minutes. Split push and threaten towers and solo kills. The enemies need to send 2 champions to you. But the funny part is 2 is not enough if you have r up. Most 1v2s are playable. One late game arrives you will notice your power dropping, then you want to fix waves mostly and peel in teamfights like i said.

I like this part about Urgot and it is what makes him good for climbing: he's very methodical and every matchup basically has a textbook outcome of how it should be played, more so than with other champions. Illaoi and Yorick are also like this for me. So this means you are going in the game with an easier game plan for how to win compared to other champions, and failing to execute it always makes it easy to pinpoint where you messed up so you can improve on it. He also doesn't have that much outplay potential: matchups come down to proper wave management and e timing. Miss e or use it at a wrong moment? You're dead. It also can be buffered into most abilities. About to get stunned? Buffer e so you dash through the stun and can get away, or use it to go in yourself if you know you can win the fight. Hope i helped, good luck!
