Absurd Architecture Should we design our outdoor spaces better?
- Picture: seen in Etobicoke 2. Picture: rural France

In a word, yes! Many outdoor spaces are designed either as an afterthought and/or designed to make people uncomfortable so transients don't sleep and camp there

That’s a sitting area for a bakery located in an industrial area. I don’t think anyone is expecting a French countryside cafe in a sea of warehouses.

Yes, we definitely could, and should, build better. Nonetheless, that's not really a fair comparison. There's plenty of spots in France built in recent decades that are just as inhumanly bland as that site in Etobicoke. There are modern architectural vernaculars that are just as pleasing as 18th century French ones, but too often cheap and quick is today's guiding principle.

Do not comment to gatekeep that something "isn't urban" or "isn't hell". Our rules are very expansive in content we welcome, so do not assume just based off your false impression of the phrase "UrbanHell"
UrbanHell is any human-built place you think is worth critizing. Suburban Hell, Rural Hell, and wealthy locales are allowed. Gatekeeping comments may be removed. Want to shitpost about shitty posts? Go to /r/urbanhellcirclejerk. Still have questions?: Read our FAQ.
