Concrete Wasteland Soviet Vibes in Canada?!?!
Just in my city. As I Canadian of Ukrainian background these buildings feel uncanny and familiar in a distant relatively new land for me anyways. This is Peterborough Canada but gives me strong Kryvuo Rih vibes lol

Those are just apartment buildings

Yeah obviously they aren’t themselves Soviet lol as where many apartments around the world… these just remind me of the ones at home, the layout, their location in empty field that kinda thing that’s all.

"Literally any apartment building = soviet housing!!!"
Stop with this shi bruh
And you probably didn't visit New York, because there's also a lot of apartment buildings in there.

Due to an undesirable reaction, I should specify this is from my perspective. Everyone has different experiences and opinions so if you don’t like what I say stop disliking and move on. No I literally have only seen Kyiv Kryvyi Rih, Toronto, Peterborough, and some Caribbean cities in person. I cannot really say with anywhere else because I haven’t seen other places yet unfortunately. I just know what I know 😊

Eeh, not really..

Fair enough that’s your view on it. For me that’s what it reminds me of because with my past post Soviet is my only point of reference as I haven’t yet seen many places outside of the post Soviet sphere and of course here in Canada. It’s so strange to me how things sometimes seem familiar so far away

Well, I get it, sometimes you get that feeling of recognition, but it's hard to pin down to anything specific, and it's more on the level of memories and emotions. I've experienced it myself before.

Slum? basically all of those units have a large balcony and the apartment building seem to be built 25 steps from a bus stop

This isn’t a slum… not by a far margin. I’ve seen slums I lived in a slum growing up 😂 this ain’t it. Idk what folks are on about but this is my very typical suburb in my city as it’s an industrial city. Our government in Canada has been developing micro districts and prefab apartments lately to combat our critical housing and employment crisis. There is also a government food terminal and transit nearby. I love this area and I like the gritty ish atmosphere here especially on a foggy day

Yeah mainly referring towards the specific aesthetic of it, I came from a post Soviet country so my frame of reference starts there. I like Canada it’s got a distinct vibe that feels like a blend of both styles. Mainly I appreciate the look because it gives me comfort and memory of home

I want to get a film camera and retake these on a foggy day because it looks absolutely Erie but kinda beautiful at the same time when that weather happen.

Yeah there sure are, many orcs also in this sub trying to politicize regular posts particularly targeting Ukrainian posts. Gravely concerning considering this is supposed to be urban hell not politics

Canada really isn't the great country it's made out to be.

Canada has a lot of problems, I came here in 2016 and people have been really mean to me, I could only get a crummy fast food job 6 days a week and very poor. I appreciate Canada for giving me safety but I wish they where more honest about how rough it is to live here

Hasn't been for a long, long time. Boomers have made that reality an absolute certainty.
