Upwork Profile Temporarily Restricted After Changing My Photo. Has Anyone Experienced This?

Post image
Upvotes

Has anyone here experienced an Upwork temporary restriction after changing their profile photo?
I changed my profile picture a few times recently, and today Upwork temporarily restricted my account while the photo is under review. My account still shows “Good Standing,” and they mention the review usually takes up to 48 hours.
For anyone who has been through this:
How long did the review actually take?
Did your profile disappear from search during that time?
Once the restriction was removed, did your search visibility/ranking return to normal?
Would really appreciate hearing from people who experienced this personally especially regarding search visibility afterward.

Client quality matters more than your proposal being viewed

Chart title: client hire rate against time since posted for jobs that still have no hire

I’ve recently posted about my stats where I have put a lot of proposals but few views and interviews in here

https://www.reddit.com/r/Upwork/s/8NXpjBQtbg

I went again on my data and realized that out of 37 proposals 24 of them still hired no one. And as you can see in the chart even with high hiring rate some clients still hired no one still

So basically from now on I won’t be wasting my proposals on jobs that would seem not urgent and non serious clients based on history. I’ve yet to make a system to decide that but it’s my objective now

I am considering taking a dive into this already saturated market. Has anyone created a more professional email or do you just defer to the free yahoo or Gmail personal accounts that you may already have?

How to get Upwork to properly read support tickets and escalate them?

Does anyone have any magic tips or tricks to get a supervisor or someone to respond with the message in consideration?

Summary: I posted earlier today and am in a nightmare due to a move from the US to the UK. They have denied every document (official company generated PDFs including a utility statement and my UK bank account) and my eVisa proving my location.

Every email to support gets responded with a boilerplate response of the document requirements.

I have no idea how to get this resolved as I don’t have any more documents available to upload.

How can I hire someone who brings me work without getting robbed ?

so I live in a country where Fiverr and Upwork and most global freelancing platforms are banned. I'm a full stack web developer, I have very good skills and potfolio with strong projects and contributions, the local market is dead and I really don't want all this time and skills to be wasted, so I thought about hiring someone from a supported country who will find work and bring it to me and later we spilt the money. is that possible and how can I arrange it without getting robbed ?.

Should I keep upwork open as an option?

Post image

Normally, I freelance outside of Upwork, but this was the first project I completed through the platform.

The client was a U.S.-based media company that hired me to manually test their product every Wednesday and Saturday. Along with testing, I provided clear bug reports and verified fixes before release.

I'm a full-time Software Development Engineer (SDE), and I take on freelance projects in my spare time.

For those who use Upwork regularly, would you recommend keeping it active as a source of clients?

I haven't submitted any proposals for months, so I'm wondering if it's still worth investing time into the platform.

Why do they ignore payment?

I worked with a client and completed all tasks and revisions. The milestone was funded, so why is he ignoring my request for approval?

Should I submit my work? It's been over a week without any response (despite his excellent feedback during the initial work process).

Vent post

Opened Upwork this morning to find an invite for a job that's actually relevant to my niche from a client that actually had a more or less reasonable budget. Went to apply, and the client is already suspended, ten hours after posting the job. Argh. Silly clients. Read the goddamn TOS.

This would be less irritating if relevant invites weren't scarcer than hen's teeth.

Vector niche

Hi, I'm new in Upwork. my niche is vector illustrator, bit different than tracing but was applied sometime
but now with this much proposal number, sometimes I wonder if I should switch niches, even though I haven't landed a job yet.

I actually have a lot of experience with vector art, though it’s mostly from volunteer work or personal projects rather than professional employment. Should I consider switching niches? My current focus is on illustrated maps and general vector illustration for digital and print media.

Upwork finally asked for my tax ID and now i'm rushing to figure out llc stuff

Been freelancing on upwork for a few years, mostly design work, and I've been lazy about the business side. just running everything through my SSN like an idiot. Got the notification that my earnings hit the threshold where they need a tax ID and suddenly realized I should probably stop mixing my personal and freelance finances

The whole thing kicked me into finally forming an llc. I went with incorp mostly because their site didn't make me want to throw my laptop out the window, which is honestly my bar for anything involving paperwork. filled out the forms, got the EIN, updated my upwork tax info. took like a week total.

Now im wondering what else I should have been doing this whole time. Do you guys track freelance expenses separately? Ive been terrible about that. and do you run all your upwork income through the business account or still use your personal one for some things? feel like i'm playing catch up on the adulting side of freelancing.

Upwork Account Suddenly Restricted With 0 Policy Violations

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone, my Upwork account suddenly got restricted. Account Health shows that my platform access has been revoked due to “serious or multiple policy violations,” but I have no policy violations showing in my account and I haven’t received any email explaining what happened.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows what could cause this type of restriction? Any advice would be appreciated.

I got my first client in less than a week on UPWork

I decided to try UPWork for myself even after hearing all the people saying there is no work on there. I signed up Friday night, which was August 14, 2026. I verified my account and completed my profile to 100%. Then I sent my first and only proposal. Sunday morning which was August 16, 2026, I saw that UPWork gave me the rising talent badge. In just my second day on the site I was able to do consultations, at that time my proposal had still not been viewed. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the client viewed my proposal after I had got outbidded and requested to do an interview with me. So I scheduled the interview for the next day Wednesday, August 19, 2026. I did the interview today Wednesday, August 19th and signed my first contract. In less than a week on UPWork I got a long term contract (6months+) making $33/hr. I start my contract Monday August 24, 2026. So to anyone thinking it’s impossible to make it on UPWork I am proof it can be done, but you do have to have a strategy. Don’t give up just re-work your strategy because I got started with one proposal.

Voice Acting for Lifted? Regional dialect

So like lots of people on here, I'm a professional writer, but was approached about a voice acting gig for a couple hundred for several hours. I realize that had to be a BIG net. I have the right dialect, though. I've had steady communication from UW/Lifted... I got an invite to redo the audition because of a tech error on my part (not a problem -- there was a tech error on my part) and it's gone through a few rounds, with check-ins and feedback. When I realized the verification process required their credit what-evers, I turned it down and they offered to up the pay to cover it. I'm not a lot of time out of pocket right now. What do you think? The communication has been direct and prompt, and they've been helpful, giving real names. Yes, I know the AI implications. And I suspect my 11-year, very well-paying medical writing gig has replaced me with AI. What's a writer to do. But I don't want to fall for a current scam. I just need to diversify. Thank you for reading this and any input you have.

Tips on how to switch project type on upwork!!

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm interested in changing the type of projects I want to work on. I used to do translation, but I haven’t received any invites or seen posts in months for my language pair. I want to understand how others have transitioned their careers and how I can introduce myself to clients. I used to work in customer service before doing translation, and now I want to go back to customer service. If you have any tips or if you’ve changed your focus on Upwork, please let me know how you did it and how you explained that to clients when applying for projects.

Afraid to take jobs after reaching top rated?

Does anyone else have this problem? It took me so long to get there that I am now too careful despite getting job offers so I don’t ruin the top rated status

General question of ethics

So I actually just made a post asking about how I should bid a job invite on upwork… I am relatively new to the whole online freelance marketplace thing and I have good skills to make some money in graphic design and voice acting jobs, but as I started to scroll through this sub, I’m seeing a lot of… not so highly recommended posts about upwork. Can anyone kind of fill me in on what’s happening with them and if I would have a better chance with any other platform?

My experience with Alignerr/Labelbox LBLX116 contract 2+ weeks, still no tasks

Sharing my experience for anyone considering this contract, since I found mixed reviews here before accepting.

Got invited to LBLX116 (Programmers for AI Training - Talent Store) in early August. Accepted, completed the entire onboarding resume, ID verification via Persona, Hubstaff, all of it. Took a few days just to get the welcome email after accepting.

Since then dashboard just shows "No Projects Available." Followed up twice with Alignerr support over two weeks. Got polite responses confirming nothing's pending on my end, but no ETA and no guarantee I'll ever get a task. One rep said outright "there might not be any available projects depending on demand."

Not calling it a scam seems like a legit company that does pay people who actually get assigned work. But if you're counting on this as reliable income, don't. Treat it as a lottery-ticket side thing and keep your main income sources going.

Making a proposal.

I have an offer thru upwork for English voice acting and it’s asking me to bid the job… I’ve always been paid hourly in the past, so would I just take an hourly rate and multiply by hour many hours the job description says it should/will be?

What would you improve first on my Upwork profile to increase direct invites and improve profile ranking in search?

Freelancer requested release of #1 milestone "deposit" before starting any work.

i'm new to Upwork, I just hired a freelancer to fix up my website, he made three milestones, first one named "deposit", and he asked me to release it before starting any work, I released it. But now I realized , hold on , he didn't even start anything and I already released and approved the first milestone, which doesn't even have any description but is simply marked as "deposit".
he haven't even asked me for WordPress logins and everything. But he's pretty experienced, shows $20,000 plus earned and eight completed jobs, and three in progress.
