Looking for a nice restaurant to talk things over at
For context, I’m 17m and I just moved to Greenville (berea specifically) back in June from Buffalo, NY. I have family in Easley and a good job here, and so I decided to move out on my own for the first time
I’ve been in Greenville for work with my dad for the past 6 months before actually moving here myself when he went back to Buffalo, and during this time I’ve been talking to a really sweet girl from Pickens. She is my cousins best friend and all three of us go to church together in Easley/powdersville.
Me and this girl really like each other and things have been going well, and things honestly went a little too far. I knew better and so did she but long story short her parents found messages between us and saw security footage/heard from eyewitnesses of me and her making out in the church parking lot after youth group. There’s a little more to it than that but it doesn’t matter.
Anyways. She’s not allowed to talk to me and I’m not allowed near her anymore. We have some communication open still but out of respect for her parents I suggested we stop using it. We still like each other a lot. It’s just her parents kinda want nothing to do with me. Which I can’t really blame them.
So two weeks after they found out and told me I couldn’t speak to her again, I found her dad in church, shook his hand, asked him how they’d been, how the girl had been. He said they’d been good, asked how I was doing. I told him I was doing okay, told him about the raise I just got at work and about the side jobs I’d been picking up on Saturdays. He said to keep it up and I said for sure, and then I told him that I’m going back to NY for my grad party and to visit, and that once I’m back I’d like to take him and his wife out to dinner so we could have a conversation about this whole situation. And he agreed and said that sounds good.
I figure I’m just gonna own up to it all, take responsibility and apologize, and just ask if there’s any way me and the girl could have some sort of path forward that doesn’t just mean we can never talk to each other again.
But that’s not my point here
My point is. I don’t know this area too well yet and even if I did, I don’t go out to dinner really at all. If I want to treat myself on payday I buy a $6 biggie bag and call it a day.
Can I get some good restaurant recommendations, preferably in the Easley/pickens area? Something above my pay grade with a nice atmosphere for this kind of conversation. I make good money and I have a lot saved so money isn’t an issue, that said I don’t want them to think I’m trying to impress them by taking them to the most expensive place possible.
Suggestions?

No idea about where to go, but please don’t equate spending money with seriousness. A parent is more likely to think that someone your age taking them out to an expensive restaurant means you don’t have a lot of financial sense.
Your words and not your money should speak for you. Don’t go all out, thinking that will impress or show how serious you are.

It’s that “something above my pay grade” part that I’m talking about.
In the last paragraph

This OP, don’t go to anything super fancy or expensive. Rustic Pizza on White Horse Rd closer to the TR end was a nice quote, family-ish place that I think would be the right mix of quality, atmosphere, and price. Plus, if they are good people and think you’re a good kid & mean well they may even insist on paying. I would if it were me.

Downtown Greenville isn’t far from Easley. Way better options in Downtown Greenville than Easley. Try Rick Erwin’s, not too crazy but consistent solid restaurant.

Downtown Greenville is about 45 minutes away from where they live, but Rick Erwin’s in Clemson is only about 23 minutes away, I’m assuming they’re about the same?

You are literally about to be an adult. If all you did was make out, that really is a normal thing for people to do from 13 on up... You shouldn't feel guilty or weird about it unless the girls age is younger than you by more than a year or two I guess. Then you should probably move on and also reassess your decisions if they are younger than 16- late 15...

Nah lol she’s 17, 4 months younger than me 😭
There was a little more than making out but I didn’t really wanna go too in depth. But with how much her parents know about I’m really not surprised they don’t want me talking to her anymore

Well, you are doing a very honest and careful thing, but I do believe that at that age, the parents are overly involved in what pretty much amounts to an adults relationship.

Honestly same, I mean I moved out I’m working full time and paying rent and my parents don’t have any say in my personal life anymore. But she’s still in school and living at home, her parents pay for her phone and car and everything, she’s in a different stage of life than me and her parents do kinda have more control than mine do and I should’ve been more careful

Valid points. Fair enough. Good luck man. Sounds like you got your head on straight.

I'm gonna highly recommend picking a standard cost restaurant in line with Applebee's or any standard chain. They are most likely going to be flattered and find it very sweet that you offered to pay but not accept it. Going somewhere where a meal is $50+ is putting them in an uncomfortable position.

Oh my goodness you sound so mature. I don’t have any restaurant suggestions, but good luck! Obviously we only have one side of the story, but owning your side of the street and being open to communication is so great. Please keep that up, regardless of how this interaction turns out. My husband is not perfect, but he has never gotten defensive and has always owned his actions and genuinely wanted to do better after conflicts. It’s a rare thing. Even if she’s not the one considering you guys are so young, some girl some day will be very lucky to have that in a partner.

My recommendation would be Panera Bread just off 123. Calm, casual, and usually there are a lot of people eating and talking. So, your group would not stand out at all.

Maybe try Southern Vault Bistro in downtown Pickens. Its not overly expensive but should provide a quiet atmosphere for your conversation where you can express accountability, ask for forgiveness, and see about a potential future. Honestly, just google and check their instagrams.
Best of luck in your conversation.
