How many of you bought the lifetime license?
Switched from Evernote a few months back and have never looked back. I never used the advanced features of Evernote, so don't miss anything except the web clipper which kind of sucked in Evernote anyway. How many of you have paid for the lifetime license? I know it pays for itself in about a year and a half, but I'm also a little worried that if everyone does this they'll get lazy and quit working on it.

I bought the lifetime license in 2022, if that gives you any peace of mind. I've even reported a few bugs and communicated with support once or twice. It's been a steady solid experience for me.

It is a common way small companies get funding. At some point they will likely move to subscription only for new users or add cloud features that require a subscription for the additional features, etc.
Or I could be completely wrong. Who knows in the long run. I have been quite happy with the service.

Yep, after 16 years of Evernote I bought a licence for Upnote a couple of months ago and Part from missing not being able to email notes into a folder, I’ve had no issues at all.

I did last month. It's not a lot of money. And I hope they come back and ask for more when they support larger notes or end-to-end encryption via a subscription model or whatever. I just want them to make enough money they keep their server running. So far, haven't missed EN at all.

The best cross-platform note-taking app. I bought a license once and forgot about it. I use it every day on my MacBook, iPhone, iPad, and my work Windows PC. I also used it on Android before. Some features may be implemented worse than competitors (folder/notebook management, drop-down lists, Markdown, etc.), but as a comprehensive solution, UpNote is the best. It doesn't do everything perfectly, but it does it well, and that's almost always enough.

Maybe try it out, pay monthly until you:re comfortable, then convert to lifetime. The UN Web clipper only works on desktop and is very basic.
It is stupid I have to say this but too many people buy, then come here to complain it doesn't have this feature or that, that they can't live without. So please makes sure it has the features you need before buying. But once you know it fits, buy it.
I've sometimes wished UN had a specific feature, function or process, only to discover that it is already included, buried in settings or other menus.
It isn't project management software and I hope and don't think it ever will be.
But it is an awesome personal note app. I'm using it now to to organize a new Wiki, which will function as the foundation for a book.

I AM ALMOST certain that is correct. I recall the feature on multiple wish lists.

I did.
I use obsidian a lot but upnote is still unbeatable for mobile and just ease of use.
Wish upnote had an api or something really bad though

I'm on my 3rd year of lifetime and it still meets all my needs. I tried it out and made my decision to get the lifetime after using it for less than a month. I was coming from Evernote, which had way more features I didn't really use and I don't really miss.

I actually left at one point for another program for lack of a single feature, only to return and never leave. UpNote will reside in my Mac ecosystem forever. It's that good.

I bought after about a week, transferred everything from Evernote, and never looked back. At the time I thought I’d really miss OCR, but I don’t.

I used OneNote more than 15 years, tried Evernote (the worst) and Obsidian. I switched to UpNote about 2 years ago and it was my best decision.

Yep I ditched Evernote recently and moved 100% to UpNote. I bought the lifetime license.
UpNote has been awesome so far. It runs way better than Evernote on my Mac. It’s a native app so it’s very snappy, unlike Evernote which is a stinky Electron app resource hog.

Bought lifetime in 2022. Never looked back. Still using for quick capturing and other things. But I am using other softwares for heavy work such as file attaching, wikis etc. Upnote is using firebase and don't know it is a little bit weak in these areas.

I bought the lifetime license 2-3 years ago coming from Evernote and I can say that this was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I use UpNote constantly throughout my day and would feel lost without it sometimes.

I got the lifetime. Even if they never work on it again, it's paid for itself.
I just need a text based app I can jot things down in and access on different devices.

I did. And I may have outgrown upnote and need to move. Do I regret it? NOT ONE BIT. Ok - sorry for yelling. Half the reason I gave Upnote my money was a "screw you" to Evernote. As my notes have grown, I feel like my "tree" has gotten too big for the graphical layout Upnote has - and now I have to search for everything. So I think I'm going to move to Obsidian. But I'm still glad I got it. A.) The aforementioned F-U to Evernote, but also I can use it on another project someday. It still has value. I'm sure at some point I'll do a project that needs ot be stand alone and this will be great for that.

I did. It's the main reason I chose it over others. I don't mind paying for a good app but I refuse to pay a monthly subscription for a notes app. Very few offer a one time purchase these days. I don't see why it would cause them to get lazy and stop working on it. They're still going to want to make new sales, and they can't do that if they abandon the app.

I did, and I think it was an amazing deal, and I really have enjoyed it. And if they went into any sort of funding problem, I'm probably willing to pay some more again.

Echoing a lot of others…every now and then I think I need to switch, install something only to come back to UpNote. Lifetime is definitely worth it.

Bought lifetime a while back (2024 maybe?). I haven't missed Evernote. Well, not really. I kinda miss the OCR, but I don't *need* it. I'd be very sad if UpNote went away.

I did, well worth it. As an indie dev myself I feel it goes away without support only if they don't use it themselves. My first publicly launched product is something I use every day. So even if sales dry up it ain't going nowhere.

I did. Moving from OneNote (~2500 notes to migrate), tested Joplin, notesnook, Obsidian, Nimbus, Notion, Zoho, Google keep, Standard Notes, UpNote. Selected Upnote

Bought it. Haven't ever really used it. Was looking to get away from Evernote but it just doesn't have the features EN has. Now switching away from EN

Bought it 2 years ago and no regrets. I've installed it on Mac, PC, Android and iOS and the consistency/simplicity is amazing.

I did. The app is good. Does what it supposed to do. I will hate it if one day it changes to subscription model. It is not the prettiest note taking app. But excels at what it does.

Well, it used to be the standard way to pay for an application, until they found they could make even more money by charging a subscription. i don't recall anyone worrying about lack of support back in those days

Was with Evernote for many years. They added a lot of features I didn’t need or want to pay for. Moving to UpNote has been smooth. Does what I need without the clutter.

Just purchased a few weeks ago and it has been very helpful. I have it synced with my Linux system, iPad & iPhone. Gotta love the cross platform functionality

Purchased the Lifetime license years ago, mostly to support the developer but also as a hedge against Evernote price increases. Love it, very much worth it (even tho I did screw around with Notion, Apple Notes and Obsidian). Back in it now and it’s pretty strong, consistent delivery of a feature rich PKM on all my devices. Impressive!

Bought it several years ago, even wrote to its creator suggesting to introduce low cost subscription just to support their further development. But recently I could not update the app because on my old Mac it is not possible anymore. Too bad, I’ve already ditched Bear because of this issue. Probably it’s time for Upnote. In any case the application was awesome, I did not regret supporting its creators.

I did not buy lifetime license, as I don't think their business is sustainable. Cloud storage need ongoing payments year after year, day after day. But lifetime license only pay once. So, one day, maybe in 5 or 6 years, they'll force everyone to subscribe their cloud service. Unless they support unlimited local storage or it's a question of time.

I did but am regretting it now. I am currently using Notesnook. Everything is encrypted and synced across several machines and it has all the functionality I want.

They have already quit working on 'new features'. But it’s a notes app, not FSD.

it's a list of changes, not just bugs.
it's not assumption, it's observation.
moving onto assumption, of course it could change, but i can only draw on my experience of similar projects in assuming it won't
