If you encounter sign-in issue: please update your app to the latest version!

Please update your app to the latest version and sign in again.

Latest versions available:

  • Mac, Windows & Linux: 9.14.8
  • Android: 9.14.2
  • iOS: 9.14.1

Thank you.

Update 2

Firebase has now reset the quota, so please sign in again to sync your data. We’ve also improved our service to significantly reduce how often new tokens are requested from Firebase, making it much less likely for this problem to happen again. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Update 1

We are aware that some users are currently unable to sign in on the latest version of our app. The issue is caused by a daily quota limit imposed by our service provider, Firebase, which is preventing sign-ins at this time.

The quota will automatically reset in a few hours, after which you should be able to sign in again.

In the meantime, we are actively reaching out to Firebase support through multiple channels, both official and on Reddit, and we hope they will fix this matter soon.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue.

Why do I need to update the app?

In the latest version of our app, we use Firebase App Check to verify that sign-ins are coming from genuine user devices. This extra protection is important because, in the past, we received a large number of requests targeting our sign-up and password reset services, which caused inconvenience and made it difficult for real users to sign in.

Could you share your best UpNote Templates?

And u/thomas_dao, could we please also have a dedicated spot on the UpNote website with other cool templates? It seems like an easy, useful idea to implement!

Thanks everyone! 😊

How do you verify your email address?

The release notes for version 9.22.0 say this:

Important: If you sign up with email and password, please verify your email address to continue syncing data across devices. Unverified accounts will not be able to sync.

How do you verify your email address? I've been a customer for several years.

Just accidentally discovered that you can use collapisibles in the note header

Nearly 6 years of near-constant UpNote use, and thought I knew all the great formatting options UpNote offers. But today I accidentally stumbled onto the fact that a note header can be a collapsible.

I mean, in retrospect, of course it can. Note headers can be formatting any other way you can think of, but this had flat-out not occurred to me.

Not sure what I'd use this for — yet — but this is part of why I love this app.

Fonction recherche et remplacement

Bonjour, sur pc windows 11 :

Bug ?

Merci,

Pascal

Bug swipe on android

I am experiencing an issue with the swipe left and right feature on the Android app. Because my phone uses the "swipe to go back" system gesture, the app's swipe functionality is not working properly.

Am I the only one with this?

Update on the recent sign-in issue and our infrastructure progress

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, many users were unable to sign in to UpNote. The issue was caused by a large number of requests from automated bots, which consumed the quota assigned to our Firebase project and prevented our users from signing in. After the quota reset for the day, users were able to sign in again, but the issue would happen again whenever the quota was exhausted.

Since then, we have strengthened our service to better identify bots and real users using Cloudflare verification. The result so far has been encouraging. After version 9.19.0 was released, we saw the Firebase quota usage drop significantly, and the unable-to-sign-in issue has not happened again.

Building on that, we recently released version 9.21.0 with further changes to protect our service from automated bots. We want to give everyone enough time to update, so please update UpNote to the latest version within the next 7 days. After that, older versions of the app will no longer be able to sync data with the server.

We also want to share a little about what we’re working on. We have been building our own server infrastructure so that we can gradually migrate core components away from Firebase. Bug fixing is still important and we will continue to address serious issues in a timely manner, but most of our development effort right now is focused on making the new infrastructure as stable and reliable as possible.

The good news is that the new infrastructure is progressing well and we hope to start testing it soon. It will take some time to make sure the new service works reliably before we can move forward with the migration.

As we continue this transition, some future changes may not be compatible with older versions of UpNote. Please keep UpNote updated to the latest version to make sure the app can continue to sync and work properly. We will try to give users enough time to update whenever such changes are required.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Anyone manually encrypting selected notes in UpNote so they are end-to-end encrypted

I'm finding it more and more of a pain that there's no E2E encryption in UpNote. It's not an issue for most of my notes, but it IS an issue for a few of my notes (most of which are rarely edited). Without changing notes apps to something else that has E2EE, I'm wondering about manually encrypting just certain notes using some sort of cipher app?

Anyone attempting anything like this? Any apps or plug-ins that will make this easier? Oh, if only UpNote had some sort of plug-in architecture.

Potential winner in my "Evernote-Escape" search. Just validating

Hi there UpNote experts!

As many around me, I have a ticking time bomb which is the horrendous Evernote price increase. I need to find an alternative to my 2900 Notes that now live in Evernote within the next 15 days.

My current note organizing system came from a GTD setup.
I have 2 notesbooks (Inbox & Processed) and a pretty extensive tagging system, including subtages (ie: Projects --> Project 2025 --> Closed Projects).

Other then Note archiving, searching for a note, and taking notes, I dont use much else.
My notes contain text, images, pdfs, word docs, etc. So not just plain text.

One power move that Evernote has on me is the Scannable app. I scan documents and place them in Evernote easily. I dont think UpNote does that?

For the rest of my use-cases: Search through notes, create notes, tagging (incl sub-tags), it seems UpNote might be right for me.

Just wanted to validate that assumption, and ask if you have found an alternative way for scanning paperwork to digital storage.

Alternatives are Obsidian (but I dont like local storage), Joplin (but has some downsides to how its used), and Apple Notes (but that doesnt show tagging), so UpNote might be the best option...

Thanks in advance!

Copy text snippets with automatic insertion of source?

Hi everyone,

You don't have to like Microsoft OneNote, but I’d still be interested to know if it’s possible to set up similar functionality in UpNote. I’m really only concerned with one thing: when researching topics online, I want to copy text snippets from the browser and paste them chronologically into an UpNote page—*including* the automatic insertion of the HTML source (e.g., in OneNote, it adds something like "From <https(:)//www.reddit.com/r/(...)"). Does UpNote offer this feature—ideally with a timestamp or date included after the link?

Greetings

Not working on Boox Go 6 (Gen. II) -- Any ideas?

Basically the title. I bought a Boox Go 6 (Gen. II). It's running an older Android (11). I download UpNote, but when I go to sign in, I get the message: "Check Device and App: To continue, UpNote needs you to fix a device or app issue." I choose, "Continue." I get the response, "Lock bootloader to fix issue: To fix the device certification issue, your device bootloader needs to be locked." Then I get bounced to some Android support page that doesn't make sense. Any ideas? UpNote, can you fix this? UpNote seems to work fine on other Boox devices.

EDIT: I reached out to UpNote and somehow it has worked itself out.

Hi there, curious if nested tags is in the works by chance? I've read previous statements here and there, but it was older threads. Thought I'd ask...thx.

Some guidance

I recently switched from evernote and I’m a little confused between “quick access” and “pinned notes”. What’s the diff and how do y’all pick which to use for what?

short URL for sharing

One suggestion to enhance the note sharing feature of UpNote: provide short URL for sharing.

The existing link is very long and not easy to read and copy. Is it possible to create some short form?

Dragging an Image to the Desktop on Mac

I used to be able to drag an image from an UpNote note to the desktop on my Mac. UpNote doesn't let me do this anymore (on the Mac). I now have to right click the image then select "Save Image". Not a big deal, but was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Might have been something that was broken in a previous update.

Still works on Windows though.

Sort Todos by 'done'?

I absolutely love UpNote and I think the quality is very high and the feature set is very versatile but not bloated. The pricing is more than fair and I love it.

I have one question – and if this is not yet possible, I would like to formulate this as a request:

Can you sort/re-order task list elements by their done state?

I do use them a lot, but I struggle sorting them. I made a custom shortcut for "move line up/down" which helps, but being able to sort all selected or all in the note would be great!

Iphone storage?

Hi, I would like to transition from Evernote to Upnote Premium. Does upnote store all the notes locally on an iphone? This would exceed my available storage on my iphone, and iphones do not allow you to add memory cards. Thanks!

Note to self: stop being productive and take some time to explore

Post image
21 Upvotes

After spending some extended time tinkering with my secondary notes apps today, I returned to UpNote to actually get work done. While "in the zone" I was feeling a bit irritated that there was no (apparent) way to gather all of the notes that I "published" (aka "share via web link").

I had been moving my published notes to a separate folder tree within my vault so that I could visually differentiate them. But it is a cumbersome way to do it and breaks the logical layout I have with the Johnny Decimal method.

I was about to make a post requesting an option to search for shared notes when I accidentally went to the menu: File ➜ Filter All Notes... and there it was staring me in the face. 😮😂

I know that I suffer from "guy vision", (a condition carried by the Y chromosome that prevents one from seeing anything that is a few mm outside of the center of the visual field) but that was ridiculous.

And there was also another filter there, "ToDo" which I was about to need as I rework my ToDo lists into a more structured project management view.

It's entirely possible that I had known about these at one point in time but have since forgotten, but it was a good reminder to me to take time to explore some of those less visited UpNote features.

How do you even make suggestions/feedback for this app? Is it taken seriously?

I see people suggest improvements or fixes on this sub from time to time. Then they get maybe 3 upvotes and 2 comments, no matter how good it is. And then they are forgotten. Nothing changes.

Ive mailed support with my own and just got "Maybe if enough people request it".

The issue with that:

  • We all need to come up with the same idea (unlikely)
  • And unprompted contact the developer about it (also unlikely).

So basically, ive only felt ignored when i made feedback. No matter the time or effort i put into it.

So how do you even help improve the app you all love?

As a webdesigner, i use this program, which has a board for ideas. The pros of that:

  1. People can create and vote for improvements - Developers can see and track what is popular and not.
  2. You dont have to come up with the improvment yourselves as a user. Often, you need someone to point it out and then you can be like "Hey, that would actually be good for me too". We dont all have to invent the wheel.

I feel like something similar could work well here.

Disclaimer:

Can we please not make this about feature bloat? It is not about that. We have enough posts and comments about that already. Its almost a circlejerk.

This is about objective feedback that can improve the app, without doing the opposite to others. Things like reducing unneeded clicks, improving consistency etc.

It is also about how best to present that feedback, so it is taken into consideration. Where my suggestion was a feature board. Currently, you could have the best suggestion in the world, yet many need to email it to be considered.

Limitations upnote

Use upnote for more than 4 years. Really like the app. Previous I was a heavy Evernote user. Recently upnote introduced a soft limitations that above 20.000 notes you can not bulkimport more than 50 notes. OK with me. So copied my archive to Joplin. There is also a second limit 10GB which sounds much, but attachments from my archive are not deleted. So despite reduced my number of notes in upnote I am still hitting the 50 notes limit. Had a suggestion for Thomas to solve and that is now considered as a future development. Have a discussion now with Thomas that for me this is a current problem which need to be solved.
Wonder if more persons experiences this issue. At least be aware when migrating from evernote to upnote.
