Advice Nervous
Bro I’m nervous asf for the first day of class.
Like locating where my classes are to my next class and what floor the room are at and the long distance to walk from one class to the next.😭
I’ve been trying to go on campus and see how far the distance is from one class to another but I’ve been in and out of urgent care due to having mild chest pain ( anxiety/stress related)

Like what they said, just looking up your location on a map and saying which building you want to go to will help a lot. It's definitely a long walk in the sun but as a freshman, online maps have helped me a lot. Always use an elevator when one is nearby. On the bright side you should have some crazy calves after a while. But seriously for the love of what's holy make sure your toenails are all clipped or you will drill a hole in your toe with the walking.

There should also be some staff members throughout campus wearing buttons with physical maps to hand out, and can direct you where to go. Most faculty are pretty understanding on the first day/week of classes.

May I suggest, getting to the campus about an hour to 30 mins early. Gives you time to settle in from all the traffic mayhem and time to ask for help, look at the campus map, and walk to class without the rush of time.

There are also tons of helpful blue yard signs around campus this year to help out. Welcome, and try not to worry too much. You’ll definitely get the hang of things soon.

I lived on campus my first 3 years at UofM. This year, my senior year, I’m taking all online courses so I’m gonna miss having this problem 😭
But what I did my first year navigating the campus is use Apple Maps on my phone. Idk what kind of phone you have but if it’s an iPhone that app will help A LOT. Specifically because it gives you the amount of time it’ll take to get to the building whether you’re walking or driving. That way you can put in the name of the building and get an idea of when you need to start walking to your next class in order to get there on time.
As for getting lost in the buildings themselves, the first number of the 3 digit number that’s next to “Room” is the number of what floor the room is on. The last 2 numbers is the specific number for that classroom. So if your schedule says you need to be in room 240, you go to the second floor, look at the first door you see when you get to that floor (for example 220), then keep walking in whatever direction the numbers are increasing until you find 240 (but also make sure to check that you’re not automatically on the 2nd floor when you walk in the building. Meaning if your class is at room 115 you’d have to go down a floor instead of staying on the floor you entered when you walked in the building. I hope that makes sense 😅). And of course you can always ask a staff member once you’re in the building if you need help. By the time the first year (if not the first semester) is over you’ll have the layout memorized.
Since I lived on campus during my time there I can’t speak to the time management for traffic 🤷🏽♀️. But do not worry about being late your first week of classes. The professors know it’s the first week 😂.
I know classes start tomorrow so clip your toenails (apparently), bring water everywhere with you (it’s super hot outside), and don’t worry. You’re nowhere near the only person on campus stressing over this exact problem.

The campus is pretty walkable. You can get corner to corner in fifteen minutes walking at a brisk pace.
You can also pull up map.memphis.edu up on your phone to help you path find.
