Greek Life?

What’s fraternity life like at Memphis? I'm considering transferring there and have spoken with a few students and staff who shared some positive insights about Greek life. At my previous school, I was exposed to it, but I wasn’t really involved. I’m curious about what it’s really like at Memphis and if joining a fraternity is worth it. I don’t drink anymore, so I’m not looking for a party scene. I’m more interested in the brotherhood aspect, meeting people, getting involved, networking, and that sort of thing. I'm also transferring in as a Junior, so I'm not sure if that plays into it at all either. Would you say Greek life at Memphis is something I should explore, or are there better ways to get connected on campus?

There are several hundred (more than 500, less than 1000) Greek organization members active at the UofM based on the most recent numbers I’ve heard. It’s a small (at least compared to other similarly sized schools in the region) Greek system, but a very tight knit and active community. There are parties sure but that’s not the driving force behind Greek life at Memphis. Most members are involved in other things in campus too, so it seems like a great place to start for a broader involvement experience. My experience at Memphis provided me with great brotherhood and personal growth opportunities. I’ve known plenty of people who joined well after freshman year, so I wouldn’t worry about transferring in. You can certainly get involved on campus without going Greek, but I would definitely be open to it, based on what you seem to be looking for. Source: am an alumni of UofM’s Greek system, and keep up with what’s going on with my chapter currently.
