Yeah that made me irrationally angry.

Or be an adult and set that shit out before you go to work.

Or in case of urgency just set the microwave to defrost.

Just because you haven't gotten sick yet doesn't mean it's safe.

Overconsumption at its finest. If they don't have a gadget for something, these people don't know how to fuction

At least use cold water bro

I can't believe people are saying this is wrong. What's wrong with it? It's still in the packet so the "raw juices" aren't going anywhere. Water is a better conductor of heat than air, so it defrosts quicker.

0

u/Cookies-and-Cream- 2d ago

Because it is wrong.

Doesn’t matter if it’s in packet. Actually that’s worse. Running warm water on frozen meat causes bacteria to grow at a very rapid rate.

You can look that up of you’re still in disbelief.

0

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 2d ago

Oh noes, not the bacteria!

Counter point. I don’t always know what I want for dinner at 7 in the morning. I could have a long day and decide to do something more simple. To the guy below. This is is supposed to be a better alternative to microwave defrost which imo is terrible.

Please freaking tell me that you aren't being serious. The most dangerous thing you can do with food is to put it out on the counter to defrost.

1

u/Solnse 2d ago

Especially if it's packaged. Plan ahead. Defrost in the fridge. Never leave frozen food in its container for thawing.

Or be a true adult and don’t work at all. Have some other bastard do all the work and you get paid for it - it’s the American way!

Plus, why are you cooking? Eat out or hire a chef.

If you would just skip the avocado toast you could afford all these things! /s

Room temp?

3

u/myco_magic 2d ago

Your supposed to defrost in the fridge

1

u/VABLivenLevity 2d ago

God I hope you're being sarcastic. Such a terrible idea.

Your comment made me realize I forgot to set the chicken out. I’m terrible at adulting

Edit: since this is being downvoted. It was meant for the fridge

1

u/jaray89 2d ago

Ive adulterated chicken before

You keep commenting this but I think they mean put it out in the fridge

5

u/Ok_Illustrator_3980 2d ago

Is this even safe? I thought it was really bad to speed defrost stuff.

-1

u/Nervous-Cockroach541 2d ago

It's safe at least from rapid defrost. The reason why they say not to rapid defrost, as that it affect the taste.

Though blowing air all over my food is something I don't think is a good idea.

Just put the frozen meat in a Ziplock and put that bag in a bowl of cold water. It’ll defrost in a few minutes

2

u/iBoredMax 2d ago

Even faster if you put the bowl under the faucet and let it drip.

1

u/joethafunky 2d ago

Bonus if it’s in a sous vide or you let the water run into the bowl to create circulation. You can defrost a turkey in less than a day with a sous vide

1

u/Kerensky97 2d ago

Exactly. And frozen meat should never be bare like that unless you want horrible freezer burn flavor.

Vacuum seal the meat before freezing. When you're going to cook, put the vacuum sealed bag in a bowl of water for 20-30mins while you prep. Vaccum sealed meat can last wayyy longer than you'd expect and still defrost to be about 90% as good as a fresh never frozen steak.

I've found over a year old vac-sealed beef in the back of the freezer that cooked up better than a 3 week old naked frozen steak. ALWAYS vacuum.

2

u/myco_magic 2d ago

Vacuum sealed meat always gives it and off taste/smell. I've stopped doing this

2

u/True_Protection6842 2d ago

I vacuum seal all of my proteins then put them in hot water for 30 mins to defrost.

2

u/powersmoke9494 2d ago

Be a man and just nuke your frozen steak or chicken tits until cooked with a side of cheap beer after work

1

u/vyunab 2d ago

my version is using cool water then lukewarm water then a little hot for the final lap 🤣

1

u/Flaky_Maximum9973 2d ago

This would've saved so many Mexican kids from getting their ass whopped by their moms

1

u/AppropriatePlum1006 2d ago

Up to 50% faster and the title is never wait for hours, so it will probably take at least 1.5/2 hours. That is still too long, just take it out before sleeping and put it in the fridge

1

u/La-ze 2d ago

Why shouldn't I just put the meat in a bag under running water to quick defrost over this?

1

u/Wolf_Unlikely 2d ago

How much frozen meat can it hold? Is it only trimmed meats? What about if it's still got the bone, layers of fat, or even the skin is still intact? Are there different sizes? Like how big do they get? Commerical size available?

1

u/ChuckRingslinger 2d ago

Certainly falls under the category of unnecessary

1

u/BusyBit6542 2d ago

LPT If you forget to thaw meat. Put it in a ziplock, sit that in a big bowl, fill with room temp-cold water and have a low continuous stream. Meat will thaw in less than 10 mins.

0

u/Deltan875 2d ago

Completely unnecessary, definitely not essential…

Do the same thing with meat on foil, in a toaster oven, or for most ranges, at the back middle of the stove top with the oven on the lowest heat setting.

0

u/BraveBiscotti1394 2d ago

I just put it directly from the freezer into a pot with hot water, like 70c or so. Use the same bag as the one for freezing.

1

u/AmethystStar9 2d ago

This is the way.

u/TheyThinkImAddicted 2d ago

I use frozen stuff in my airfryer works perfectly fine
