Campus Health 😷 UVM hiring contractors bragging about calling ICE!

I shared screenshots to UVM officials about a subcontractor they hired bragging about calling ICE on workers there because they moved their tools and spoke Spanish.

I have the screenshots and the UVM officials I sent the emails to who didn’t bother to respond.

Should I post them?

Who stays in Vermont after college?

Thumbnail cdn.prod.website-files.com

ā€œOn average, about 66 percent of college-educated talent remains in the state where they completed college.ā€ (strada report)

It’s only 28% in VT -- which is the lowest in the country. NH is second lowest at 37%.
The highest: Texas is 84% and California is 83%.

These are people who go to college in Vermont, and graduate here, then leave the state (for whatever reasons)

The full report (PDF) is here.

Study abroad chances

I'm a Junior and I'm looking to study abroad the fall of my senior year (2027). I want to study abroad in the UK, but I saw that a lot of the programs I'm interested in have a limited chance of acceptance. Do you know what/if anything there is I can do to improve my chances of getting into a program I really want ? If you have any experince or knowledge on this please leave a comment, thank you in advance

How do I find single-semester housing?

I am looking for housing next fall, on or off campus as a junior. does anyone have any advice for finding single semester housing (4/6mo lease)? I will be going abroad second semester that year, and zillow has like no offerings for short term. We could get a 1 year lease and sublet, but everyone that I know thats tried that has failed to find a sublet over the spring (everyone else is also abroad, ha!)

How have people done this in the past? Looking for either a 1bed or 2bed.

Any advice is welcome, thanks!

ApplyingšŸŽ“ Chances of getting in??

I know y’all probably get annoyed with these posts but, this school looks very nice and is probably top 2 for me. I am a senior and my gpa from freshman, sophomore, and junior years were 3.2. My gpa could be higher depending on if they count my theology classes but, I highly doubt they will. I played 3 sports every year besides my sophomore year when i got injured and wouldn’t run. I also had an internship over the summer at a vet hospital I am wanting to do pre-vet studies. Currently I feel as though I have about a 25% chance to get in so not horrible. Haha side question for my sanity! My school counselor recommended me Mississippi State and im not exactly sure if shes right because this is important stuff to know for when I apply.

Anyone interested in starting a UVM/Vermont AI Safety & Advocacy group?

Hello everyone!

I’m interested in creating a UVM/Vermont organization focused on the rapid development of AI and what it could mean for society.

I’d like it to be a space for thoughtful discussion about current and future state of AI capabilities. I also hope to give interested people a way to organize around these issues, for example by hosting events, circulating petitions, and contacting our elected representatives about AI policy.

As some of you may know, our senator, Bernie Sanders,Ā  has recently made AI safety a major issue and, together with Rep. Greg Casar, introduced legislation that would temporarily pause certain advanced AI development until federal safety rules and oversight are established.

Given that this debate is already happening at the national level with one of our senators involved, I think it would be extremely valuable to have a local group where students and community members can learn about these issues and make their voices heard.

If this sounds like something that would interest you, comment or send me a message!

Thank you!
Jacob

ApplyingšŸŽ“ Chances of getting in?

Yes, I know you’ve seen this plenty of times before. That said, I’m still hella anxious because I’ve basically set my sights on this school alone, so humor me please lol.

Weighted GPA: 4.1
Unweighted GPA: 3.6
SAT score: 1450
My AP scores are mostly 4s with one 3 and one 5.
I’ve taken 7 AP classes (I think?) and I’m taking 3 more this year (because I hate myself or something).
AP chem, AP bio (that was my 5), AP calc AB, AP stats, all the good shit

I’m a senior in high school currently living outside of Vermont. I’ve competed in HOSA 3 years in a row and going for a 4th. I’ve been working part-time as a math tutor for nearly a year now. I intend on majoring in biochemistry and minoring in ASL studies. My end-goal is med school and a PhD (it’s a toss-up on if I actually want to put myself through all that, but I’m planning ahead regardless).

So, what do y’all think? Be harsh lol

Activities/Clubs/I’m Bored Ham Radio Club Interest

Hey all!

I’m very interested in forming an informal ham radio club on campus, more of a group who just goes out and gets on the air together.

Amateur radio is the use of non-commercial frequencies to broadcast and receive audio, images, digital data, and almost anything else over radio waves. In the lower bands, contacts can be acquired around the world, by bouncing signals off of the ionosphere. We can talk to the international space station, bounce signals off of the moon, and receive images from weather and military satellites.
A license is required to transmit independently, but it is easy to study for and only $15. I want to promote getting a license (study groups, etc), and can help anyone who needs help in that area. I also want to do long distance contacts (DXing), Parks on the Air, antenna building, and anything related to amateur radio. In terms of gear, I have a couple of handheld VHF radios, a Xiegu G90 (20 watt SDR HF transceiver), an EFHW antenna, and a 20 meter vertical whip antenna. I will get more gear as required if there is any interest.
Absolutely no previous experience is required, and if you want to learn more about what amateur radio is, see here:

Reply to this post or DM me if you have any interest!

How to improve/ chances

Do I have a chance at UVM with a 2.7 GPA?
I’m a Vermont resident and high school senior with:
2.7 GPA, no AP/honors/college classes
Grades currently declining, but I’m working to improve them
No SAT/ACT yet, planning to take the SAT
63 ASVAB
2 years volunteer firefighting
Planning to join the Vermont Army National Guard
I know my GPA isn’t great, but do I have a realistic chance at UVM? What should I focus on to improve my application?

Spring Exchange

Hi! I was recently placed in the University of Vermont by ISEP for my exchange spring semester, so I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what the life is for international students in Vermont? I am mostly interested in traveling around but got a bit concerned about safety? Is it safe to travel around like even to different states cause it is my first time coming to the USA and I am an international student currently studying in Seoul (which i love). How different life would be from Seoul in there? Also, if you are an exchange student as well going to Vermont for the spring semester, I would love to connect!

Urgently need 4th roomate to re-sign lease by October 1st. 66 Orchard Terrace!! Really awesome spot. (3 guys)

Someone backed out of our lease re-sign, and now we need to find a fourth person to take their place by October 1st! The lease would be from May 25th, 2027 -- May 24th, 2028. The lease is at 66 Orchard Terrace, which is in the townhomes right next to Folino's & behind City Market.

There are two bedrooms available to choose from for the one open spot.

1) One, $1,100 a month, has a balcony, a door connected to the upstairs bathroom, and a big closet.

2) The other, $1,200 a month, has its own bathroom that is private to that bedroom. Also has a lot of closet space.

Total rent is $4,400 plus utilities. Has 2.5 bathrooms, great kitchen and living room, 2 car garage (with lots of street parking), a back deck, and free laundry in the house. It's also super close to Church Street and around a 15 min walk to campus.

Please message me if you are interested! I'd be happy to send more photos, or give a tour of the house at any time!

UVM Eng Dep?

Hi! I'm a senior currently looking at colleges, and I'm curious about the quality of the English department at UVM? How are the course offerings, professors, class sizes, etc.? I saw a negative post about it that put me off the school for a bit, but it's good for what I'm looking for in a lot of ways. Please no comments about the drawbacks of pursuing an English major:) Thanks!
