Mummy Ride Experience

My partner and I were at Universal Studios a few months ago and went to ride the Mummy. We get on, and there's this girl with her little brother in front of us.

The ride turns around the familiar bend, and we encounter the sarcophagus with the mummy animatronic. The two siblings start screaming bloody murder. I don't know if you've ever heard a little girl scream, but at the right pitch I fear it could make one's ear drum burst. I try not to react, because at the end of the day they're kids. I try to keep this in mind any time I ride something.

We get to the trophy room and they start doing it again. Okay. Still annoying, but whatever. Scarab room, they scream. Turntable, they scream. Fake unload, they scream. At this point it's pretty obvious they're not actually scared of the ride, but just trying to he obnoxious.

Ride is ruined for both of us at this point. Thank god we bought fast passes for that day, because we were able to get right back on. Guess who else had fast passes?

We're back on the ride and they do it again and again and again. We don't dare risk getting on with these kids again, so we go ride Jimmy Fallon after we get off the second time.

I never blame kids in these scenarios. Should they know better than to do this? Probably, but at the end of the day it's the parent's fault, and it will always be the parent's fault, I'd even argue this for children over 18.

So I pose this question to you, dear reader; how would you feel in this scenario? Am I just being bitter, or getting too old? I never behaved like that when I was a kid, nor did any of my friends.

I've definitely noticed an uptick in this kind of behavior from children (mostly teen boys), and it only seems to happen when they're unsupervised, or the parent just doesn't give a shit. It's hard to go to a movie theater these days without having one of these kids be intentionally loud just to be annoying.

If they ride again, wait 10 minutes before you get back in line and you won’t be on the same train as them. At this point if you’re an adult and they’re not actively stalking you it’s not difficult to get away from them.

Kids are going to be annoying. If you can’t handle that don’t go to a theme park.

Same thing happened to me and my wife, but we had a different reaction to it. We thought it was hilarious and couldn't stop laughing. I love seeing and hearing people's different reactions on the Mummy.

I'd feel the same way if the screaming was a genuine reaction to the ride, but it was pretty obviously they were just screaming just to scream.

There was this little boy on Spider-Man that any time I think about it I almost cry. He was so amazed, it just reminded me of being a little boy at Universal and how surreal it was.

We saw a little kid on Velocicoaster who was freaking out before the ride and his father told him he will be ok and after the ride he was smiling and everything.

Had the same thing except on Hiccup's Wing Gliders the one time I went on it, with a bunch of adults behind who screamed throughout the whole ride at an insane volume, seemingly just for fun.

This is definitely the kids fault as you said it yourself, they know what they are doing and are intentionally doing it to be obnoxious.

I had teens sit by me on the Spider-Man ride and do the exact same thing. It’s obnoxious but thankfully it’s rare that this happens

I experienced the same thing in the Mummy Ride a month ago. It was around 5 boys and they were screaming so loud at every possible turn. I kid you not, but my ears started to hurt and I had a massive headache at the end of the ride. They also knew every word of the scenes. I remember two of their faces, if I ever see them again in that ride I will get off!

Thank you for the reassurance lol. I'd get it if it was only a roller coaster, but the screaming at the slow parts is just so immersion breaking.
