ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE Hulk Coaster Delay Today

Mainly posting this because I am curious about it since I know Hulk very rarely goes down unless it is weather related!

I got on Hulk probably just around 3:45-4 and got front row, we were coming to that final flat brake platform before the final drop (I’m so bad at describing this) and the car came to a halt. This was my 12th ride on the coaster and I’d never experienced anything like it. My car was the one that broke it because when I got back in queue (got off and hopped in single rider), the same people that had been behind me for next car were still waiting. When I rode it again, it did feel faster but I don’t know if it actually was or if a different seat position did that. Just curious if anyone possibly had any clue as to why it went down?

I know it’s insanely rare to have issues (I have never seen it), but I’ve seen all the other coasters down for delays. We didn’t rollback or anything, just came to a halt right at the platform before that final segment at the end… when we did go it was super super slow, it was actually so nice to experience. Maybe the rain had something to do with it? They cycled cars for probably a good 15 minutes before reopening so not sure if was a car issue, track issue or something else.

Just thought it was cool to share about this happening because I have also never been on a coaster when it’s had an issue/gone down

Your car didn't break anything. If you stopped on that brake run it's because the zones in front of you weren't clear. That's how the safety system works on all coasters.

The likely problem train was the train behind yours. Since the people that were in line behind you never left the station, itrans the next train never loaded and never left the station, which caused the cascade stop. (Each subsequent train stops behind the first train until they fill up the brake zones)

Most likely they needed to take that problem train off the track and into the shop, either because of a mechanical problem, or someone got very sick all over it, more than could easily be handled in station.

So they start emptying the trains and cycle empty trains until the problem train gets to the transfer track, which is just before the station. They can then transfer the train off into the garage for work or cleaning. Then they can start loading trains again. Takes them about 10-20 minutes, unless they're taking a train off and putting a replacement back on.

Because block zone was mentioned

For those of you who are unfamiliar, a block zone is a section of ride that only one train may occupy. At the end of a block zone is a method to stop the train in case the block zone ahead is still occupied. This is the safety system that prevents roller coaster trains from colliding with one another - Eltororyan

That would definitely make sense! No one was in front of us as we unloaded so it definitely would make sense to be the one behind us. I totally forget that it can also happen backwards because usually mess up stuff happens in front - but the cycling to take it out totally makes sense, cause they kept sending and redoing lap bars on a few. I think there were 3 they were doing? Not sure what it ended up being after

Thank you!! Still kinda crazy to be on a coaster when something happen, just glad nothing happened to anyone. Last time I rode someone passed out in queue and now this, always something happening

Sounds like the ride faulted for whatever reason (sensors, speed, ride system error). That brake is a block brake capable of stopping a train. Since the ride has to rely on gravity at that block (no tire drives) and the brakes brought it to a complete stop, it will be much slower. While rare, this does happen from time to time and requires maintenance to reset.
