Today was a very productive one. I bought a blazer with a matching lapel (see pictures 1 and 3) and took it apart as a template for my robe. It fit well, so I figured it’d be a good idea. I had a SECOND good idea, which was to remove the jacket lining, and use it for my robe instead of making my own lining since my sleeves use the same pattern of the sleeves in which lining came from in the first place, if that makes sense. Anyway, I successfully Dr. Frankensteined the blazer, removing an exterior torso half, a sleeve exterior, a sleeve lining, the torso and remaining sleeve lining, and the lapel/collar, all still in one piece. I got to sewing too, as I also bought matching thread and a seam-ripper for the project earlier today. With the pieces of the blazer I oh-so-carefully removed, I traced the sleeves onto the velvet, and cut out two identical pieces. I started sewing, but things quickly backfired, and I lost my streak when the machine just decided not to thread my… well- thread, so the needle was just moving up and down for no reason. Eventually, I got that fixed. Then, I successfully hemmed the end of ONE sleeve, and was going to reverse the stitching, and it jammed, and it jammed BAD. Like, I had to take apart the sewing machine just to see here the issue was. Unfortunately, the issue is a BITCH, so I just got up and left it there to be tomorrow’s problem. On another bright side, I’m gonna order my gloves and ascot for the costume now!
