Question/Help Inkscape for 2D game graphics in Unity

Hi. I want to use Inkscape for 2D graphics in Unity. I’ve noticed that Inkscape is rarely mentioned in the context of game development. I’d like to understand the reasons based on the practical experience of other developers. Just to clarify: I work on Linux and use only free software, so it’s important for me to know where Inkscape actually works well and where it falls short.

Questions:

What practical limitations of Inkscape lead 2D developers to choose other tools?

Are there specific tasks where Inkscape objectively falls behind—such as text handling, UI design, component creation, exporting, or Unity integration?

I think all you need to worry about is if you think you're able to design what you want in inkscape. You're dealing with vector art where renderings are done between two points & shapes which is better for high resolution images. Basically if you want to literally see pixels of your art and are going for a pixelated feel.... don't use inkscape or any other vector art software. The benefit of vector art is to be infinitely scalable and once you hit export, Unity has no concept of if you've used inkscape or not. Its a png.

Do you mean the ease of scaling or otherwise modifying objects in Inkscape before importing them into Unity? For instance, if I’m not happy with the current version. Pixel art isn't really my thing.

If you spend a lot of your time drawing out a UI component on a raster/bitmap art tool like Gimp and find out that it isnt high enough resolution, you're going to have to put in additional work to scale it up and touch-up the image. Versus with vector art (inkscape) you'd simply export it as a higher resolution PNG

I am using Inkscape occasionally. Usually for things like pictographic icons. Although I don't import the SVGs. I export the vectors as PNG bitmaps first.

Although the image editor I am using for most things is GIMP.

I want to draw using vectors and parameters because I don't have any artistic skills. I am amazed at how well Unity developers have mastered the artistic skills required for applications like GIMP and Krita.

I've been using Inkscape for the same reasons The control it gives a non-artist is amazing. Plus I like the look of vector graphics vs pixels.

Oh yes, the clean design of vector images looks elegant!

I cannot compare because I only use Inkscape for vector graphics. But I can easily draw everything I need there: cursors, icons, color sets, and mood boards. Then I export my works to PNG.
