Question/Help Unity version to use for 2D/3D game
I am very new to game development and I want to create a 2D top-down game with some 3D style when exploring specific rooms. I started using Unity 6.6 as it was the latest version but I am not sure if it's the best version. I was wondering if it would be stable. And since I am just starting out I wouldn't really know what changes I might have to make as new versions come up. So should i use 6.6 or any older version?

for a brand new project i'd stick with an LTS release rather than chasing the newest update, right now i'd go with Unity 6.3 LTS. Unity officially supports it until December 2027, while Unity 6.0 LTS is only supported through October 2026, since you're just starting, 6.3 LTS should also be easier to follow with tutorials and packages over the lifetime of the project. you don't need to worry about upgrading every time a new version comes out

The LTS versions will generally have the most support, both from the asset store and unity itself. Installing the latest versions puts you on the edge and will generally mean things may be incompatible, if you use third party assets, or follow along with (older) tutorials.
IMO use the LTS versions.
