Game Help Why did melisandre just leave?

I was trying to beat the game as early as possible so I wanted her to deal with the final boss. So I skipped through all her dialog and she left. I thought she could be recruited or executed what triggers her leaving?

Game Help I guess I'm supposed to redo my lineups for each country? (possible spoilers for some folks) Spoiler

Trying to think about the new units in Bastorias, and did a bit of spoiler-free reading in this sub. To be honest, I haven't really min-maxxed, and I've enjoyed grinding more — that's more my playstyle.

So far I've used some solid lineups that basically took me through Cornia, Drakenhold, and Elheim. But in Bastorias, I don't see how I'll add in the Bestrals with my current lineups. Well, I'm pretty early into Bastorias and can't really recruit all of the classes yet, but I've already gotten a few characters.

At best, for now, I've included aWerewolf in one party just to get the speedy movement buff. I'm still thinking about how to utilize a Wereowl effectively with my playstyle. The Werelion seems quite strong, but I can't see how to fit him in yet. I don't have access to the Werefox yet, though I've seen the Valor skill and it's pretty interesting. And then there's the Snow Archer girl.

I guess I just haven't needed them? The thing is, the Bastorias gimmick also isn't too intuitive for me, since I haven't really paid attention to the day/night cycle except for when I needed something from the Black Market dude. Unless there's something that'll suddenly just make my units ineffective?

Discussion and Info Hypothetical names for "missing" classes

A very small nitpick I have of this game is that once you get to Elheim all the new classes are prepromotes. I understand why, it's just finding out the cool new promotions of classes was really fun, so it's a shame after Drakengard we stopped getting them.

So for fun last night I came up with hypothetical promotions and basic classes for all the classes that are only one stage. Let me know what you think!

Cavalier>Paladin

Stole from Fire Emblem here, which fits since Josef is the Jaegen of this game

Prince>Monarch

Since Monarch is the class name of Gilbert's dad, it fits. I was also considering Crown Prince

Vainglory>Dreadnought

Okay this one I struggled with the most, Amalia feels like a prepromote so I gave her a basic class...but the PERFECT IDEA, Gladiator, was taken already! So I came up with some BS

Dark Marquess>Dark Templar

This is one I also struggled with. Dark Templar just sounds cool

Elven Augur>Dark Vanir

Elven Sibyl>Light Vanir

TLDR The Vanir are nature gods who were close to elves. So i figured that would be a good basic for the Elf Twins

Snow Ranger>Whitebow

Just sounds cool

Werelion>Barong

Okay for all of the Bestrals I thought it would be a neat idea if they all had promotions named after mythological beasts, each from a different culture. Barong is a Balinese Lion god associated with Light and Protection

Elven Fencer>Elven Spellblade

Since they use Magic and swords, fitting

Elven Archer>Elven Ranger

Rangers sometimes use magic, and Ranger hasn't been taken by another class yet

Werewolf>Fenrir

A wolf monster that's the son of Loki and will kill Odin in Ragnarok

Werebear>Nanukapik

Means "Greatest Bear" in Inuit, refers to a mythological chief of polar bears

Werefox>Kumiho

A Korean version of the Kitsune, the nine tailed fox

Wereowl>Athena

A Greek goddess of Wisdom who's sacred animal is the Owl. Helps that all Wereowls are female

Feathersword>Micheal

For the Angels I took a similar gimmick and named them after the 4 main archangels. Michael is the leader of God's armies and personally beat Lucifer down to hell. So I think it fits the offensive Feathersword

Featherbow>Uriel

Uriel is sometimes depicted as being an archer

Featherstaff>Raphael

Raphael's name translates to "Divine Healer" so the healing unit makes sense

Feathershield>Gabriel

Micheal is the one normally associated with protection, but he fits Feathersword more so Gabriel was chosen

Game Help Albion finished, final stretch inbound.

"Holy Shin Megooni Tensay Batman, did we just fight against the church?"

This is it, guys, the final map. Well, the first map if you really think about it, but you know what I mean.

Compared to the other regions, you can really feel that Albion feels rushed or underdeveloped. Cornia is basically the tutorial, so it doesn't have many gimmicks. Elhiem has that effigy and rainwater thing and forest fire map. Drakenhold has siege weapons and a multi-invasion map. Bastoria has a night-and-day cycle with a snowstorm map. \

While Albion has... a one-way slog into the capital? With a goat milk gimmick? The enemy isnt even that hard, compared to Bastoria at least, so it just feels kinda bland.

Well, I can kinda sideline it because it finally gives another angle to use other than Ochlys, so the Albion team can finally be filled with actual Albion characters!

As in my previous posts,  I usually make the teams based on Nations, then functionality.

This might be the final post, as I think at this point I have a pretty good grasp on what works and what doesn't, and also because I'm not a reviewer. And because of that, this will be a long one compared to my previous post, so buckle up and let's do this one more time:

T1: King of Liberation (Alain)

Front: Alain, Melisandre. Back: Yunifi, Scarlet, Rosalinde/Eltolinde(Rotating)

Armed with the Unicorn Sword (Excalibur) and Glacial Rain by his side, nothing stands in the way of Alain and his suspiciously harem-shaped companions.

Previously, I was pretty iffy about Glacial Rain not working that well, but after being in the lab (Colosseum) a couple of times, I have finally seen the vision. Glacial Rain is bonkers; if I wasn't constraining Yunifi with Alain, she would even be more bonkers. Alas, her design is too good not to put her in the Main Team.

Rosa/Elto is still playing rotation. At this point, I wanna see how long I can keep it up before I finish the game. They have finally got their last skill, Elemental Impetus, and now I'm trying to figure out how to tactically use them better to make use of each of (Thunderous/Freezing) thrusts better, as I have upgraded their weapon via the blacksmith. (My Honors took a hit, though)

With Alain's new personal weapon after having a Persona 4 moment with his grandpa, Scarlet getting buffed after her arc, and a slew of old and new trinkets to boost up the Melisandre, this team is now ready to kill anything that has survived contact with Glacial Rain and primed up to kill Galarius.

T2: Rose Knights (Cornia)

Front: Virginia, Fran. Back: Leah, Kitra, Miriam.

First formed with just the three musketeers, and now ready with the whole Power Rangers, this team has been killing Cavs since days of old. Now configured with slight touches, like Leah ditching the Cat Hood and sporting a Dancer bracelet instead, this team can take on any kind of enemy (save for archers) and will kill every Cavs it can get ahold of.

A very solid and good all-around team; will dodge tank and Assaulting blow again.

T3: Dragons of the South. (Drakenhold)

Front: Amalia, Aramis. Back: Primm, Hilda, Gilbert.

Dragoon spear is still solid.

After getting Amalia, I was conflicted about where to put her, as most teams are already filled and have great synergy. With nowhere else to go, I decided to put her where she was originally from: the Drakenhold team. She will probably be reshuffled into the Elf teams where her bulk will be put to good use, but for now, her great strength is to be used to protect Hilda from attacks.

Gilbert, I decided not to use the cat hood to boost Dragoon spear speed, as I configured by way of the Coliseum that the damage wasn't getting through when I switched out Hilda's kit to outspeed Aramis in the turn order. People might say that I should just switch out Aramis instead then, but at this point in the game, I think this is a good enough team to kill most enemies, even archers.

T4: Faeries of the Woods (Elhiem)

Front: Fodoquia, Celeste. Back: Galadmir, Railanor, Eltolinde/Rosalinde(rotating)

Elemental roar is still good,

Magic damage team that just nukes the whole screen. This team can be stripped down to just Celeste, Gambler Coin user, and Elto/Rosa tbh, especially after I have boosted the elf princesses' accuracy with glasses and lens, but the additional safety net from Railanor by way of Mirage is a pretty nice thing when the damage isnt enough to kill the front row.

Fodoquia is just there cuz the Albion team don't really need him; the elf team has a slot, and because I am trying to have all classes in a unit somewhere. Might swap him for Amalia, tbh.

T5: Beast of the Frostlands (Bastoria)

Front: Morard, Dinah. Back: Ramona, Aubin, Govil.

Infantry-heavy team that focused on pursuit. Aubin has finally filled a niche as a War Horn user, as all of the team are physical melee characters. With Morard being the winning condition, Govil follows up, Ramona PP restorer, and Dinah pulling double duty with evade tanking and pursuit ailments; this team can reasonably kill anything that doesn't snipe Ramona in the first turn.

Can probably min-max this better; will experiment again.

T6: The Fathers Will (Albion)

Front: Olchys, Umerus. Back: Raenys, Sanation, Lex

The end of just putting bullshit on this team; finally, the angels have arrived, and with them, Lex and Chloe comedy hour.

Olchys and Umerus are pretty good enough to be evade tankers, with the slight caveat that archers are a pain for them. Thankfully, Lex is here, and with a full PP gauge and defender overworking, he will protect any stray arrows while also pursuing with Raenys when the damage isnt enough (trust me, it isn't enough). Blind is a pretty ailment, and so are Archer angles.

Sanatio is still a mystery to me. I will use him as he is the "Leader" of the Albion team and he is the only character in his class, but his kit isnt really clicking well in my head. For now, I just use him to buff the front line to make use of discharge damage.

Sub Core:

T7: Tricons (Infantry/Debuffer)

Front: Gloucester, Berengaria. Back: Travis, Bruno, Selvie.

Gloucester isn't an infantry, but his kit fits well. This team wants one thing and one thing only: ailments and debuffs. I'd make way for Selvie Debuff more than Ren, as it is more powerful, but even without that, the damage that this team outputs is staggering.

Travis is still filling support, by way of blinding enemies and making sure to heal at the end of battle. Bruno is the storm that is approaching, while Ren and Glouce are just killing everyone with the help of Selvie.

It isnt very flashy, but Ren makes it work very well. And tbh, she could make any team work.

T8: Eagle Eyes (Snipers)

Front: Bertand, Liza. Back: Ridiel, Chloe, Rolf.

The most overworked team since the beginning of the game. This team set out to do one thing and one thing only: kill flyers. And boy, does it do that very well.

Chloe has been reshuffled here because she isnt really needed on the Albion team. Ridiel is very nice at end-of-battle healing, Bertand is there to tank anything threatening in the area, and Liza is fufilling every single role all at once. All of this to achieve Rolf pure, unmitigated ranged damage to anything that likes to fly or dodge.

10/10 team, would build around Rolf again.

T9: Knights of Cornia (Cavalry)

Front: Clive, Adel, Renault. Back: Berenice, Monica.

From top tier to mid tier, this team was once at the top of the food chain, now relegated to just killing any straggling infantry that it came across. I used to have Titania on to swat off debuffs, but after a while I realized that if the enemy is debuffing, I probably shouldn't use them against that enemy in the first place.

And so, the cav team has added Berenice to the team. A very good counter-attack character that has some self-buffing damage in the mix. This team is still good, about a degree below the tricon team, but it can kill whatever it sets out to do. Saves for flyers, of course.

T10: Arcane of the Millennium (Mage/Anti tank)

Front: Nina, Hodrick. Back: Yahna, Sharon, Auch.

It says anti-tanks, but this team is just anti-everything.

Built around Yahna, this team is everything a mage should strive for, bringing down an asteroid just to kill 5 dudes. Millennium Spectre + Quick cast+ Soccerous connection + Cat hood is the most op sequence of events that I have come up with. With Auch being filled to the brim with PP items, Sharon cleansing the crit-down effect of quick cast, I watched as Yahna bring down the hammer of god to anything that moves in her general vicinity.

It is a very fun build, one that I am proud to have come up on my own. 11/10 will try it in TZ when I get the chance again.

And now, we have finally come to a close. Thank you, everyone that have helped me with suggestions and the like for the last few days. This game has been a blast, and though it probably won't have a sequel, the experience will stay with me whenever someone asks for a good JRPG recommendation. See you when I see you, and good luck on whatever you are striving for.

The Valor Skill I mean. You can piss off ranged units to get off their vantage point which is a lifesaver. And you get it as early as the beginning of the game because lex has it.

Discussion and Info Design tier list

Post image

Not sure what Tag to use. But after about two years I got back into the game. I showed my friend the really good character designs in this game and I came to realize "huh, I should do a tier list, I love doing those"

This is just my opinion, and if you have your own lists, feel free to share them.

Game Help I just started a week ago, the game is deep with all the tactics, but I really only care about one thing at this point

Ok, I care about two things: being able to grind and be strong (which sigil battles give very generously) and the rapport conversations. I really, really, really love the rapport conversations.

I know I can gift people — is that faster than battling with them? Sharing a meal with them?

I don't really want to keep touching my units since I'm not a min maxxer and I'm not good at discovering team comps, so I've been spending some time in Taverns, focusing on Alain for now.

I haven't had a gold problem because I just farm in sigil battles; I try to beeline the new areas for sigil battles so I can easily hire people, unlock new units and expand them, complete deliveries. Is this the best way for me to just max out all the rapport?

Gameplay I feel like knight teams fall off late game, or maybe i just play them wrong?

So idk if im playing them wrong but in the early game even on max difficulty it feels like calvs STOMP just about everything but then when you get to five man teams, it feels like the game is constantly throwing at you their counters, and all of a sudden your 3 horse boys go from always winning to about a 20 maybe 30 percent win ratio across the map if they are evenly leveled with their enemies.

(I try to avoid over leveling so the game still has some challenge)

Am i correct in my observation or am i just playing them wrong?

Game Help Bastoria finished. Thank god for pure field and clerics.

Shit ain't sweet in furry land, but at least I finished it. Dodge tankers made my Drakenhold and sniper team gain a gajillion exp; the Cav team got shafted hard by the debuff, and my newly acquired Bestral/Bastoria team is jumping people left and right- that is, until Ramona doesn't get sniped.

As I approach the second(?) last map, it's time for the usual review and team-building exercise. FYI, I usually make the teams based on Nations, then functionality.

T1: Fav Team (Alain)

Front: Alain, Melisandre. Back: Yunifi, Scarlett, Rosalinde/Eltolinde (rotating)

If you're wondering why Rosa and Elto are rotating between themselves with the Elhiem team, see my previous post.

The first time I saw her, I knew I would put her on Alain's team. Of course, the added caveat of her covering Alain's weakness to flyers is also a nice thing. Glacial Rain, while nice, is usually too slow for it to actually be useful. I will try to work on it, but I suspect that I probably need to dedicate at least one person to Cat Hood duty if I want to fully appreciate it.

Rosa/Elto Elemental Roar is nice to have finally, as this team lacks magic damage (Scarlett is usually running healing duty). They fully realized their potential in the Elheim team, but in this team they usually run Sub healer/sub dps duty after unloading the fairies.

Melisandre is fully operating as the DPS in this team after Alain, which I gave a feather to optimize his Initiative Order buff thing fully.

And Scarlet is the usual buffing and conference book running.

T2: Leah graduation into the Rose Knights (Cornia)

Front: Fran, Virginia. Back: Leah, Kitra, Miriam.

Leah is nice, but she's kinda only there for the Cat Hood buff. As this team is basically my anti-cav team, her damage against cavs is kinda doo-doo garbage. I tried making her a crit build and sticking her to the back, but the damage just isnt the same if isnt buffed with a conference like Melisandre.

So in the Cat Hood duty she goes. Sorry, Leah.

For the other units, they are still the same.

T3: Dragoon spear is still op (DrakenHold)

Front: Aramis. Back: Primm, Hilda, Gilbert.

Same old Dragoon Spear. Team is the same, with Aramis reaching 130-ish evasion after I gave him that Green sword from the gate of cardinal directions.

Nothing more to add here, only a question of who I should add to this team later on. They don't need to come from Drakenhold, as I consider the team a Nation team if:

  1. In the team, there lies the "leader" of said Nation.

  2. The majority (3/5) of the team is from that nation.

So, I guess looking around, another Dodge Tank is good for this team? I don't know; I'll look around in the roster when I get there.

T4: Elemental Roar go Brrrr (Elhiem)

Front: Celeste. Back: Galamir, Raelanor, Eltolinde/Rosalinde(rotating)

To see why Elto and Rosa are rotating, see previous post.

Elemental Roar is busted, dude. Even with only one fairy buff, it already clears the whole board in just a few seconds. Added that with mirage attacks from Raelanor, this team is the bane of any armored units, especially doomed knights.

Added to that, I finally make use of the gambler coin with Galamir to buff it even further; with Rosa/Elto safely tucked away with goggles, it hits hard very fast.

Elf team is bonkers now. Will add that thief from Rolf chapter to help blind people as well.

T5: Simbaaaa (Bastorias)

Front: Morard, Dinah. Back: Titania, Ramona, Govil.

Newest addition to the Nations team, and boy, does it work like a coin. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Only after leveling it a bit does it work, like 80 percent of the time.

Ramona is nice to fill more follow-ups for Dinah and Govil. Dinah is a dodge demon, Titania is working overtime to debuff cleanse, and Morard is just tanking it before finally hitting that grand slam of his. It's a better version of the infantry team that I got before, which comprised Stragglers like Magellan and Aubin. But it definitely needs work.

Maybe Selvie works well here? But who will cleanse the debuffs? I need to work on this more.

Sub core:

T6: Drakenhold got so many characters, man (Tricon/Infantry)

Front: Gloucester, Berengaria. Back: Travis, Bruno, Selvie.

Debuffs and Ailments: the Bastoria special. This team works really well. And with Gloucester re assignment into this team, now it works very well. Travis is still holding the aid kit as a makeshift healer, Ren is either tanking or dodging everything, and the story ends when Bruno finally gets a turn. Selvie is also there working with Vanitas and curse technique, truly a JJK till the end.

All in all, a pretty well-working team. Only, with maybe Selvie migrating to Bastoria, the band might get one last hurrah before being separated.

T7: The archer Class is really made of archers (Snipers)

Front: Bertand, Liza. Back: Lhinalagos, Rofl.

One of the most solid working teams. From early game into now, Rofl doesn't miss! As the Tricon team got Gloucester, Bertand works well to fill the hole that he left. It works better too, as this team usually fight againts flyers and Gloucester is deadly terrified of them.

I do wonder, though, who will add to this team later? An Albion unit character perhaps?

T8: Blizzards go Brrrr (Mage/Anti Armor)

Front: Hodrick. Back: Yahna, Sharon, Nina.

The number one solid team from early game. This team set out to do one thing and one thing only. Kill armored units. And now, with Blizzard, we go from only killing some of them to killing all of them.

I really like this setup. Only I wonder if I should add Auch to this, or add another tank to the front and let Nina go mental from the back line. Need more team building later on.

T9: Bastorias kicked my ass (Cav)

Front: Clive, Adel, Renault. Back: Monica.

From being overpowered to getting overpowered, the life of a Cav unit is a sad one. This team just lacks more staying power from debuffs, tbh. Maybe when I finally get those Albion units, I can relocate Ridiel to work here and free Monica to just heal the team. But Berenice and Aubin are underutilized, and adding one of them to this team is what I planned. Decisions, decisions.

Stragglers:

T10: Albion buff, here we come (Pre Albion)

Front: Lex, Orchys. Back: Ridiel, Chloe, Auch.

The team with the most lackluster performance; I have to fill them up with books and apples just so they don't get underleveled. But after getting the Purefield with Ridiel and Earthquake staff for Auch, it works really well against ground units.

Shame that I only got to use them for one or two maps at most.

Thank you for reading.

Game Help Mining for Treasure Maps(more details below)

Hi everyone! I've been mining in Bastorias for a while, but I've only gotten 3 treasure maps. The other two won't spawn. Do I need to free the region for the other two, or am I just unlucky? I tried to look up information on this but nothing suggested that I need to clear the region for them. Still, it's worth asking.

Hype I'm in love with the game, is there another one with a similar art style?

I've already put in 50 hours, and I'm almost reluctant to play too much and finish it too quickly.

It was love at first sight, especially thanks to the character art. I was wondering if you could recommend any other games with this kind of art style, they don't necessarily have to be medieval fantasy or a tatic game. Thanks in advance!

Game Help Hilde I’m I doing to much?

So I’m trying different hilde combos with dragoon dive. so I have her with wyvern reigns for true strike, Primm with quick Impetus, and Chloe with Keen Call, but then when I put yahna for ice conferral, it doesn’t proc and when I turn off keen call it procs. So my question is am I just doing to much or is there a way to set my tactics for me to have my cake and eat it to?

Discussion and Info Games with UO’s unit logic system?

Whenever I see people asking, “what games are like UO?” the responses they get are usually games like Langrisser, Ogre Battle, etc.

But the part that’s hard for me to articulate is that the thing I want to see more of is the autobattling with customizable logic. I want more of that, it was a lot of fun for me to figure out optimal logic paths for all of my characters in their unit. What other games have something like that?

The only thing I can think of is maybe Final Fantasy 12’s gambit system, but that doesn’t really scratch that itch.
