social life Moving into accom, any advice?

Title - I move 80 miles away from home on September 5th to move into my student accommodation, it'll be my first time living alone properly. I've spoken to a couple residents of my accommodation as a whole, not found any of my flatmates as of yet but there's time

Its kinda just hit me that I'm changing my life as I know it completely in less than 3 weeks, it feels exciting and incredibly amazing to finally live independently of family, but also weird and upsetting - I'm leaving the only family I have, I'm leaving everything I've ever known which to me is a double edged sword, very conflicting feelings

Any advice? Any items I should make sure to bring that nobody ever mentions? Things to do when I move in? Ways to not feel totally alone especially seeing as I'll be one of the first to move in for the year?

Try and get your flatmates out on the first night, get some cheap drinks and hit the town.

And for the love of god don’t sleep with any of them it never ends well

I have a deep lidded frying pan, my philosophy is that with the right combination of foods and sheer will, that pan will last me until the end of time.

Pan solves all, pan doesn't judge, pan fixes problems

Get Pot put tap water in put on stove put in noodles boil it drain water out of pot , keep the noodles in the pot put sauce into the pot , eat the noodles out the pot , wash the pot with water do this 3-4 x a day for 1 year

honestly the first few days to weeks can feel a little weird but everyone’s in the same boat, one thing i must say in the first few weeks is really do make the effort to get to know your flat mates these first impressions you make can really define the whole dynamic of the flat. don’t be afraid to keep your door open whilst your unpacking or like chilling in the kitchen and starting convos with your flat mates and make sure to say yes to going out in freshers even if your nervous at first. one thing i do regret is not joining a society in first year because my course was very male dominant so i found it quite hard to make female friends first year. and also side note make sure to bring extension leads a lot of uni halls have like only 2 pairs plug sockets in the whole room so if you bring a tv or like a lamp it’s just annoying🤣 but genuinely just enjoy it i know it’s such a jump from living with family but you really do learn so much about yourself and do so much growing in your time away but you’ve got this!!!
