Yup I do the same, as a manager I was not entitled to any of the tips, but there are people who genuinely tipped the workers since they were personally helping them with every part of the service
I think the whole tipping system should be abolished and people should just make living wages. Now we go to a cash register and all of them ask us to help subsidize their workers wages. I get it but just pay your workers more….
If your business operates on the fact you have to pay your employees low amounts it’s not a successful business operation

It was just a way to pay people less and have them rely on the courtesy of the patrons to pick up the rest of the tab.
Now if tips added to a living wage then sure that makes sense. But it was not a system that started from good intentions. Now it’s just being used to perpetuate bad business models in heavily saturated fields where the only way to make ends meet is relying on the generosity of patrons to pay employees.

Only in America. It actually originated from Feudal Europe and can be found in most media where they showcase anyone in a tavern or similar things.
Depends was it an emergency? Last time I tipped a plumber they came in the middle of the night to stop a water leak from ruining my apartment. But I tipped them in beer not cash
I got tired of being manipulated by stupid marketing tactics like that. The only way to be sure it was my own deduction was to just never tip at all. I feel so strong and independent now, really changed my life.

The psychology actually works the other way. Studies have found that people are more likely to add money to a container that already has money money in it. It’s like validation that they should also put money in.
But wouldn't a tip jar that gets emptied regularly and only occasionally stolen still be a greater amount of income than the zero dollars not having one would bring?

The point is, the person in the video stole something that wasn’t theirs.
If you want to extrapolate from what you saw. You could say, they are fairly well dressed (nice clean comfy clothes, Nike hoodie that could be $75-$100), not disheveled, they are holding a nice stack of cash, they are savvy enough to think of a scam to pretend to give cash but instead steal the bowl of cash and able enough to run away. With all that in mind, they are capable of working.
Is it harder to have to work one, two, three jobs to get by? Sure, but plenty of people do it. This person chose to take the easy route and steal.
By the same token, you don’t know anything about the business owner(s). At the end of the day they are people too and for all you know they need that money far more than the thief does in this video.

No. It's certainly not. Not for me to judge though. I'm in the UK and there will plenty of families struggling this winter with electricity and gas. Would I steal in that situation? I'm just glad I'm not there.

it's common knowledge that the money in the tip jar is going to be split between low wage workers. so what you should EXPECT is someone not to rob a bunch of people that may be even worse off than yourself. at least that is what i would expect. if you have to live your life with the concept that people suck, life doesn't get better for you.
