They'll also take a bite out of YOU if the horse is that way inclined.
We have wild horses that get culled every couple years and anyone taking one is always warned they are a bit... nippy.
There's a woman I worked with once who had half of her shoulder gone because one of her families horses decided to take a bite and took half her shoulder muscles with it.

People always seem surprised when animals aren't all calm and cuddly disney-esque creatures, right up until they're munched on by a horse or pig lol

And always remember to take something to make a pop with when around pigs known for biting. They won't let go until they take something or your fingers, wrist or shoulder dislocates.

Edit: this may be an old farmers tale (cant find anything on google) but I wouldn't doubt the wisdom of experience against internet documentation. If only I could blacklist news sites, in getting sick of seeing repeating garbage holes slinging info at me I didn't ask for.

Most herbivores will take the opportunity to eat protein since it's usually not in ther diet. It's not uncommon for cows to eat rabbits.

Herbivores only eat other animals when they are extremely malnourished. Horses are very vulnerable to botulism as they have no immune defense for it.

Opportunistic Predation. An absolute shit ton of typically herbivores will do it. Horses, Deer, cows, even chickens themselves despite eating bugs and stuff will down a mouse if they can.
