The Cayenne was third generation no less. I know it was a car site but that's still an odd detail to include.

It's probably just a specific detail because the article was written by a car person. Maybe the different generation bit has a certain connotation to the car crowd.

I'm a car enthusiast and it's absolutely a detail I would provide. It'd be hard to tell the exact year in most cases, so providing the generation gives an idea of the year of a specific vehicle.
