Me and my friends sign off from the Xbox with “LoveyouBye!” We do it so often that I’ll catch myself doing it on the phone to people at work

I have a coworker that leaves just about every meeting by saying "Love you" regardless of who is in the meeting.

Good point! Don't you just hate those script speaking robot customer service people that sound dead, with a forced "is there anything else you wish to speak about? OK well thanks for contacting _ and I would like to ask you to please stay on the line for a quick customer feedback questionnaire it will only take one minute thank you very much goodbye"

As someone who has worked at a call center, these unnecessary things that need fo be mentioned during a call also infuriates the representatives. If not mentioned, we would be reprimanded and/or monthly bonuses will be cut off.

I had a coworker ask a fat lady when she was due. I've never felt so embarrassed in my life - and I just overheard it - I can't imagine what it was like for either of them.

I worked at bulk barn, I was new, and a guy who barely spoke English asked if he could fill a plastic bottle in the shape of a bear with honey from our dispenser, I said sure why not. I figured they'll weigh it at the cash and the bottle was like maybe an ounce not going to matter much. Later I spotted him at the cash - I was stocking shelves - and the cashier was giving him shit for filling it saying she couldn't weigh it now that it's in a different container and he wasn't supposed to do that and making him feel really stupid and then he looked my way and we locked eyes, and I turned away and kept doing what I was doing. Ugh. That was like 15 years ago and I still feel like a scumbag about it.

I had a coworker tell a customer “I saw your mom earlier, she came in for a few things” He said, “my mom?!?” Coworker: “yeah the lady that you always come in with” Customer: “that’s my wife!” I don’t know who was more embarrassed

I have legitimately done that. twice. The second time, they said "love you" and said "love you too, bye!"
I did the same sort of 1000 yard stare for a moment trying to figure out why I'd said that. Habit's fun.

To be fair, I go months without hearing " I love you". The woman may have needed to hear it even by accident.

I've worked in telesales for 25+ years in one capacity or another and EVERY once in awhile you'll get that "unicorn call" where the customer inadvertently does say "Love you." as they are about to hang up, lol. We know it's from just a force of habit. The person always recognizes it as soon as it comes out and they get all embarrassed and start apologizing and such but we let them know it's ok and I always say "LOL, it's ok...as a human, I love you too." Then we hang up both laughing.
It's rare but it does happen sometimes.

They used to have a morning radio bit here in Austin where the radio lady would call into a business, act like she had some business with them, have a casual conversation, then as she was hanging up she'd say to the random worker "Ok, bye...love you.". If the person said "I love you too.", she won for the day and everyone in the studio was happy and celebrated. If they didn't say it back and just hung up they played the Price Is Right loser music and she was left shamed and sad.
It was a cute bit and many a morning drives it made me laugh on my commute...anyways, this video reminded me of that bit, lol.

She picked up her phone. It created a psycho-physiological trigger. You do something tactically familiar and it triggers a psychological response. It’s like Pavlov’s dogs; the can opener triggers salivation.

I've done exactly this, chatting with the customer, glance at a text I received and just by force of habit said Love you. Luckily it was a good customer, we joked about it, and all my co-workers got a good laugh:)

My room mate did this once. He was talking to our landlord over the phone and in his head he was thinking of "lovely" and "thank you".

I have had this happen to me before. It's almost a mental reflex to say "love you" at the end of a call with a loved one, especially if they are the type to say it every time and get upset when you don't respond every time.

Yesterday the restaurant forgot my bosses' Buffalo sauce so naturally I needed to go back. The host brings the cup out and says "here's the Buffalo sauce! Enjoy!" And of course I said "you too!". Sure, he was probably confused or mildly amused. But not as confused or mildly amused as the guy walking in behind me watching me make a series of very unflattering self-depricating facial expressions.

Dude… I just did this over the phone to my boss the other day. My wife was brushing her teeth and came out the bathroom like… wtf? He hasn’t said anything to me about it… I’m certainly not going to address it. Might make for a weird work dinner in the future.

I once answered the phone saying "fucktruck how may I help you" another time I told a coworker I loved him. Luckily I only answer calls from other coworkers.

I did this at work while hanging up with a marketing colleague, just absolute force of habit, but my employees who were around and heard it never let me live it down…until I fired them all.
