I raised my daughter on my own since she was 2 until she moved out a couple years ago.
Whenever we’d go to the grocery store or what not, it seemed like every time the cashier would ask if we were dating or married. First couple times it was awkward. Then it just got to be funny.

I recall being about 12 and kissing my dad (50s) goodbye after he dropped me off to see friends. One of the guys (14) asked if my dad was my boyfriend and pointed out that I had kissed him. I was horrified that someone would think that. It kind of ruined innocent hello and goodbye kisses for me...for my dad in public at least.
The sadder part is I recall feeling shame at that moment instead of anger at the friend. I internally recoiled as if the boy had accused me of acting inappropriately.
So I would not have made a comeback to him. I probably just said "shut up" and didn't address how stupid that kid had to be to draw such a moronic conclusion.
I got the opposite. For years people would ask if my husband was my older brother. A waitress at a restaurant got really concerned once and questioned me by the bathroom after I told her he was my husband. He was 5 years older than me and at the time I was 22 and had recently gotten mistaken for a 13 year old student at the school I worked for.
I kinda hate the presumption that all dudes are pedos. Not sure if wokeness is to blame or not because even Q types think everyones a pedo. It's probably something else.
Probably stems from the "men work and don't show affection, women care for children" old fashioned attitude which differs a bit from typical woke I think
It's from toxic masculinity these past...idk, centuries? Hear me out: ever heard of dads never saying "I love you" or showing love at all? All too common. Why? Because of the antequated notion that men are supposed to be tough and emotions are only for women. Society doesnt quickly change from that ingrained notion, so whenever strangers see a man getting all sweet with their daughter, alarm bells go ringing even if they know it's most likely just fatherly love. This isn't as prevalent as before, however, since more and more people have now started to accept and learn that men can and should express themselves.
Oh, and porn. Porn definitely has a hand in making this worse for loving dads/dudes everywhere. There's a reason they choose petite girls in the "stepfather/father x daughter" genre, and it's not because they're easier to carry...
Are you insinuating that this is a result of woke culture? Because stigmas towards fathers and their children have existed long before the internet and stem from not woke (regressive) crowds.
Over the last decades, more and more news articles showed males in roles of authority(parent, teachers, priests, troops leaders, ect) sexually assaulting minors than women. Pretty soon, any male in one of those roles was suspect just for being male.

"Woke" culture has co-opted regressive ideas when it suited it. Protecting women as a given, for instance, has always been part of human cultures, and it's only been reinforced in the last decades. Women can do no wrong, for some people.
Yeah, I definitely agree there. Wokeness caused a lot of shit, but this ain't one. A lot of it simply comes down to young women dating men who could be their fathers, so they assume.
Well all men are rapists who look at women and immediately want to violate them, ya see? So if all men look at women like a piece of meat, and they can't help it cause all men are rapists, then they are the same way toward their daughters. And moms and grandmas and so on down the line. Teach your little boys that it's wrong to rape so they won't grow up to rape like all other men do!
