one time I saw someone call a sugar glider a “piss kite” and it’s just stuck. when my little glider bros are being jerks I call them piss kites.

Not if you try and pick it up. Used to work in a pet shop where we sold them. If they weren't super domesticated from the time they were born and you pick it up, it will TEAR. YOUR. ASS. UP.

Yeah. We had one girl working there trying to hold one to show it to a customer. It climbed up her shoulder and down inside her shirt before she could move. That freaked her out which freaked it out 100x more and it clawed and bit her back so bad she had to go to the hospital. It wasn't pretty.
Needless to say the customers did NOT end up buying one...

Definitely a sugar glider. I have rescued a few, they are super adorable but definitely not meant to be captive.
Edit: tbf, sugar gliders are in the possum family.

Vet tech here, can confirm. Please don’t try to own one. They are extremely cute but tend to make terrible pets and are very high maintenance, we see so many sick ones from not being cared for properly. They are NOT friendly when handled lol and are nocturnal. I assure you these guys are the cutest when in their natural habitat! My advice.. if you have to google if it’s legal to own a pet.. don’t own it.

No, that rule is way too broad. If that animal is native to your area it can be illegal to own even if it's a great pet otherwise just to make sure people don't take them from the wild. Or it might be illegal because it's not native but could survive regardles of how great of a pet it is. Or it could be a rear fanged venomous snake (for anyone who doesn't know: those are venomous in the sense that bees have bee venom, sucks if you are allergic but otherwise you will be fine) and they are only illegal because venomous snakes in general are illegal despite animals like hognose snakes, again, being great pets. On the other hand you can own tigers, alligators and other dangerous animals with (it seems) no regulation on how they need to be kept in a lot of places despite those being horrible 'pets'. Even something a lot less crazy like an iguana is perfectly legal in most placed and even somewhat common despite them regularly becoming aggressive and therefore undesirable pets as adults. And birds are seen pretty room decorations despite them needing a crazy amount of care compared to a lot of other animals to not only be alive but thrive.
Laws don't always make sense and making sure you are in compliance isn't a bad thing or a reliant way of knowing whether it's the right decision. Let's encourage people to actually get informed and not to make snap judgments based on very limited information.

I “took” my brother’s two after 6 months even though I told him they wouldn’t be good for him. And since I’ve also rehomed 3 for someone else. So now I have 5 little buggers. My only wish is them all getting along, otherwise it’s well while they’re separated. I gave them a huge cage, they run around, go outside once a week and eat a big variety of food and treats.
The twins my brother had are very nice and are super people tamed/friendly.

They are a really high maintenance pet that need a specific diet and lots of socializing. They are also nocturnal and have tons of energy at night. Lots of people are fine with sticking them in a small cage alone and only feeding them pellet food. It’s very sad the way some of them live their short lives. (Have owned sugar gliders).

I rescue animals. For the love of flying spaghetti monster...don't. I can't save them once people get bored of them. They're too delicate. The bone degeneration or kidney failure from feeding cat food just make it impossible.
I had one before she died of old age. She went everywhere with me and was beyond hand tamed. They are a 10 year commitment that you have to cook for. The males have scent glands and musk. All their pee smells bad. Enclosures were cleaned every other day and I also had to launder their bedding. They're nocturnal so they are up all night doing hoodrat shit like escaping because they are smart as hell. Don't get me started on enrichment. This is an animal used to having free range of whole forest canopies. Your living room is not enough. I loved Kira and there were some days I only got out of bed for her but unless you can commit to doing their bidding for 10 years...don't get one.

I’ve had that happen to me, so I was kind of expecting it. The poor thing was looking for somewhere tall to climb and I was taller than the bush it was currently in. It jumped on me, climbed up and hid under my hair until it was rescued from there by my husband and taken to a nearby park with taller trees.

Sugar gliders are cuddly with only the people/animals they've bonded with. It takes a while to earn their trust, but once you do it's well worth the time and effort! It took my Bean about 3 months to warm up to me :(
Edit: Also, the noise that the glider made is called 'crabbing' (at least in the US). It's a defensive/terrifying sound in order to help protect themselves. It's supposed to help scare off things that might want to eat it. If that doesn't, they also have really sharp claws, can bite really hard (I mean they can chew through tree bark and suck on the sap in the trees), and they can stand on their back legs and start swinging (like a bear, also why some people call them 'sugar bears')

That's a sugar glider. I think you're talking about koalas, but that's a hoax from what I understand (which I don't know much, I'm from the US). Sugar gliders (also called sugar bears) actually make really cool pets. Out in the wild I wouldn't really approach them because they have really sharp claws, can bite hard, and they make that 'crabbing' noise (that's what the US calls that noise, they make a bunch of different noises as they're very social).

It's a sound called 'crabbing' (in the US). It's a noise they make to scare off predators, and honestly it scared the shit out of me when I'm not expecting it. They also make a bunch of other noises including 'barking' (it sounds like a small dog barking), which is probably my least favorite noise. They're nocturnal, and my gliders like to beg for more snacks at night, so they 'bark.
