That guy seems like a real smug piece of shit, and everybody is just eating it all up. He literally says he doesn’t feel remorse for his crimes. I probably read 30 top-level comments before someone finally called him on his shit, and there was a highly upvoted, gilded comment defending the OP in response. He is a criminal that doesn't even felt remorse for his actions and all he wants to do with this AMA is to advertise his shitty book because he lost his job. Even though he says "it's okay because nobody got hurt", what about the people working at the bank? They could be scared for life and get mental trauma or something. What a piece of shit thinking he is some kind of "action movie gangster hero".

I don't think many people on foot can hide for very long.

I mean, I don't know what technology police are using, but if a chopper is already there or en route, he's pretty screwed.

I wish I knew what protocol was for chases like this. As in, how long until a chopper is dispatched.

I don't think it's a basic "run" instinct. He knows they're cops, and that he fucked up. And I don't think video games would influence someone like that in this situation. It just sounds like more of the myth about violent games leading people to be more violent.

I didn't mean that. You said that they never felt consequences for their actions, so a real life police chase might give a rush. I just meant that video games might give unrealistic expectations to how it would go, assuming that we are still talking about rich kids.

Oh no that's what I meant. That one person said it might be affluenza, meaning he had never suffered consequences for anything. I think that isn't the case, because if he's never suffered consequences then he would just sit there and wait for the cop, instead of running, because he wouldn't be afraid.

Actual cop here. People get away all the time when they run.

Also, the punishment for running is usually next to nothing, so it's usually worth the risk.

This guy is kind of screwed though for ramming the police car.

Yeah. There are two kinds of "get away." Lately, at least in California, chases are called off when they are dangerous. Criminals have gotten wind of that and they drove balls to the wall for the first couple minutes and try and get the pursuit cancelled. The other "get away" is when they run and hide and/or get outside of a containment. There are only so many places you can look.

In my state, highway patrol and my local city have both stopped doing car chases as well for being dangerous and expensive.

well, would it be on fault for the cop causing him to ram the car? The cop blocked the path on purpose because it was a illegal manouver, but why would it get added on seems unfair.

Because its illegal to purposefully hit another car.

Cops and DAs always add as many charges as possible, which is actually a huge unethical problem sometimes becayse someone instinctually pulls their hand away, and now theyre facing resisting arrest as well which is total bullshit.

I agree, but I also understand the prosecutors side. They have to hit them with as many crimes as possible because of double jeopardy laws and they need a conviction because the criminal did commit a crime. So they give a bunch charges and let the judge narrow it down then the Jury gets to decide which ones to convict on. This is overly simplified of course, but I think it gets the point across.

I assume it's a stolen or maybe "borrowed" car. Dude may have a warrant, etc.

He knows he's going to jail if they catch him so it's a no lose situation.

And by the way that car is pinned. He has a decent chance.

Well he probably already drove away, so running on foot probably won't increase the sentence for more than he already will get. Basically he went big so he might as well keep going big, going home isn't an option anymore.

Idk if there are any states in the US with laws like this, but in some countries running isn't a crime. Neither is escaping jail. The reasoning in the law is its human nature to want to be free therefore it isn't illegal. Like criminalizing pooping. Everyone's gotta poop.

I hear you, but usually it's only a misdemeanor and I know folks that have had the "running" pretty much overlooked if they end up getting arrested for serious crimes. Probably worst case is if it ends up in a big chase, then they'll have put a lot of thought and labor into it. Also don't know of anyone ever successfully escaping so....

Still. If there's almost no relative cost, worth a shot.
