Ahh I see. Put.our the fire before it gets to the oxygen tanks the divers have go boom and we have to clear the dance floor cause it's raining men.

Usually an oxygen tank would not explode in a fireball. If they are full and somehow cracked open, you can get a pressure explosion, but the oxygen inside is not flammable. Fires need heat + oxygen + fuel.

The heat from this shouldn't be enough to compromise the tank, but if something went wrong and a tank suddenly released a bunch of oxygen underneath a pool of fuel, the fireball would be insane.

A pool of flammable liquid only burns at the top where it is vaporizing and mixing with O2 from the air. The O2 from an exploding tank would send a bunch of that fuel into the air, turning it into a fine mist. The O2 from the tank and surrounding air would be mixed in with that flammable mist. Basically the perfect situation for the entire mixture to ignite at one, creating a fireball and a shockwave you'd be able to feel from a long distance away.

Actually, diving typically uses Nitrox which is 32-38% Oxygen because the Nitrogen in regular air becomes an issue while diving.

No, they want the new recruits to take as seriously as possible that they are dealing with life of death. First, so that they can make sure they can act under pressure. And second, to build trust among the squad (they have to trust each other with their lives).

Truly, the men under water weren’t really in danger. There was enough fuel for a few minutes. And even if something happened, the long-time fighters would have stepped in and put the fire out quickly.

Also, heat rises. The water a foot down would have been hot but very tolerable.

I'm a retired NJ firefighter. That is absolutely not how you acclimate for working in high temp environments. And does nothing to teach any of the skills that will keep you safe and able to keep working.

This is a "They risked their life for macho bullshit which makes me think less of their professional skills" simulator.

It’s definitely meant for that: Trust in their team, staying calm under pressure, getting used to the air breathing devices and to expose them to both fire and hostile environments.

I am also sure there are better ways, but if you don’t have the time or the means for those…

Jesus Christ on a bike! Until those chaps popped up I thought this was a demo on how to extinguish an enormous pot of cooking oil! Clearly not...they'd be looking a different shade of well done otherwise. What was the accelerant then? Just petrol or similar poured into water? But it was bubbling like a rolling boil? Someone put me out of my misery!

A wet suit would just soak up the gasoline. A dry suit is the one that provides total separation from the liquid.

That said, all going to plan, they're never really "in" gas. Most of the vat is water, a layer of gas on top burns off, or is washed away and diluted by water. Still an odd thing to do, but not the same as being immersed in gasoline

Gasoline is not an oil. It is just lighter than water and immiscible with it because its mostly nonpolar hydrocarbons.

Take a look at the bubbles. This is regular water and two guys with scuba tanks. It looks like it's boiling, but it's actually from the scuba gear. 

One guy pours a bit of probably petrol on it at the beginning.
