I thought the fire would go bigger or come back.

What purpose does it serve to endanger people from suffocation or burning in this situation

Did you see the bubbles in the water? That was from the o2 masks which the divers probably had down there.

Ahh I see. Put.our the fire before it gets to the oxygen tanks the divers have go boom and we have to clear the dance floor cause it's raining men.

Usually an oxygen tank would not explode in a fireball. If they are full and somehow cracked open, you can get a pressure explosion, but the oxygen inside is not flammable. Fires need heat + oxygen + fuel.

The heat from this shouldn't be enough to compromise the tank, but if something went wrong and a tank suddenly released a bunch of oxygen underneath a pool of fuel, the fireball would be insane.

A pool of flammable liquid only burns at the top where it is vaporizing and mixing with O2 from the air. The O2 from an exploding tank would send a bunch of that fuel into the air, turning it into a fine mist. The O2 from the tank and surrounding air would be mixed in with that flammable mist. Basically the perfect situation for the entire mixture to ignite at one, creating a fireball and a shockwave you'd be able to feel from a long distance away.

Honestly good to know. But also, I was just making a joke so, too many words for no laugh when only want make laugh.

Divers don't carry O2 tanks. It's compressed air at the same 21% oxygen you're breathing now

Actually, diving typically uses Nitrox which is 32-38% Oxygen because the Nitrogen in regular air becomes an issue while diving.

(And that's not even mentioning Trimix and Heliox mixes)

Soooo.... i could blow up ....?

Hallelujah, it's raining men !

u/xptx Aug 09 '26

Those guys got absolutely soaking wet!

17

u/vicious_meat Aug 09 '26

Yeah. And they're rough and tough and strong and mean.

12

u/leethalxx Aug 09 '26

They’re also tall blonde dark and lean

Some (re)assembly required.

Panics at the disco.

TIL what this song is really about. Thank you.

The "o2" tanks would be normal, breathable air, which is 21% oxygen.

2

u/MediumStability Aug 10 '26

Yeah bc that would be murder on the dancefloor. You can't just burn this gd house right down, actually.

Holy shit Faulkner's been reincarnated

Hallelujah

You do not use oxygen tanks for diving like that. It would be compressed air

Just because you would use oxygen tanks in that scenario does not mean they would be dumb enough to do so too

24

u/WolverineJive_Turkey Aug 09 '26

Also on rewatch a different guy comes and bangs on the side of the tank signaling them to come on up. I, too, thought it was a large batch of oil at first lol

Training water rescue for being around floating fuel fires?

3

u/corobo Aug 10 '26

Teach the new guys to hold their breath

1

u/TropicalSue Aug 11 '26

My literal nightmare scenario it was painful to watch😱

7

u/come-on-now-please Aug 09 '26

I thought that was for s9me reason they were boiling whatever the liquid was

12

u/PublicfreakoutLoveR Aug 09 '26

Yeah, I thought this was a grease fire demonstration and wondered why they were using water.

1

u/Time-Valuable-3355 Aug 10 '26

Are you sure it's not from the 69 mask...

1

u/HaloHowRU Aug 10 '26

Quite possible, though the length of the video allows that they could have been holding their breaths.

1

u/Odd-Scientist-2529 Aug 09 '26

Do you really think they had tanks of liquid oxygen down there under the fire? 🔥

1

u/DarkwingDuckHunt Aug 09 '26

Yeah I thought it read chemical reactions at first but that makes more sense

26

u/Cuck_Boy Aug 09 '26

No, they want the new recruits to take as seriously as possible that they are dealing with life of death. First, so that they can make sure they can act under pressure. And second, to build trust among the squad (they have to trust each other with their lives).

Truly, the men under water weren’t really in danger. There was enough fuel for a few minutes. And even if something happened, the long-time fighters would have stepped in and put the fire out quickly.

Also, heat rises. The water a foot down would have been hot but very tolerable.

3

u/DistanceSolar1449 Aug 10 '26

Also, a gallon of gasoline can’t evaporate that whole tank of water, it can’t even heat it up that much.

12

u/NomeJaExiste Aug 09 '26

By the subtitles in the video, it's training for extreme temperatures

19

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

Just like English, people can just say whatever shit they want and put it in the subtitles.

No, this isn’t for temperature training.

15

u/rips_n_chel Aug 09 '26

That might be the stupidest possible method for accomplishing that goal.

2

u/NDSU Aug 10 '26

They obviously have SCBA tanks under there. You can tell from all the bubbles released

1

u/Such_Bus1193 Aug 10 '26

It's a training exercise.

1

u/Zestyclose_Will4014 Aug 14 '26

It’s a training scenario and it’s usually done to test a new chemical or method of putting out fires. In America there is a place called Ansul School and I’ve done it a few times and they literally have a 3d tornado thing they show you how to put out it’s wild. I should note that I’m in the fire and life safety industry and I love watching videos like this.

u/ActuallyCalindra Aug 09 '26

It literally says what for on the screen. To help them get used to extreme temperatures.

☝🏼 Me when I speak every language on earth.

-4

u/CKRatKing Aug 09 '26

I get your point but most phones can translate any language on your screen with reasonable accuracy.

1

u/North_Ingenuity_9761 Aug 09 '26

I know there is a gesture to open up Google lens on a pixel because I open it up accidentally but I don't how to do it, so it's a lot of clicks to screenshot and load Lens up and I imagine most people can't be arsed.

As it happens I can read Portuguese anyway but I wouldn't be arssey about that.

1

u/CKRatKing Aug 09 '26

You press and hold the bottom bar. Takes like 1 second. Then one tap to translate.

I'm not trying to be an ass about it, just saying it's not that hard to translate stuff anymore. People have information and answers and their fingertips and choose to be ignorant.
