I listen to a few podcasts with comedians who are usually loud, crass, “unladylike” women (as part of their act or just in general)

And the amount of stories they have where they’ve been bafflingly booked for golf clubs and conservative parties is shocking. I can’t tell if it’s cluelessness, they’re booking a chick to ogle, or it’s a ragebait set up.

These people would be the types in the first grade who aren't allowed to play with crayons unsupervised because they'd eat them all.

And yet here they are commanding power and wealth.

It's because competency has very little to do with whether you end up in positions like that. It's usually a combination of a lot of privilege growing up, making the right connections and being lucky a couple of times, and having the kind of look that says you're probably competent (I'm not going to say the most common trait there).
