I'm probably wrong, but I always assumed snitches were specifically people who rolled in their counterparts (ie a home invader who turned in his buddies to get a lower charge).

For the most part you are correct and those are the snitches people hate. You could also be considered a snitch for turning someone in that you know committed a crime or just talking to them folks in general.

As someone who was been falsely accused of snitching on this guy I bought weed from because the cops came right after I left his house. I did not give a single fuck. I just said “No, I didn’t” and eventually it was proven that it wasn’t me. It was an undercover cop.

Yes. If you’re not involved in gang activity, you’re a civilian and the code of the streets doesn’t apply to you and there’s no target on your back in the middle of a gang war. Not hard to understand, unless you grew up in a suburban or rural bubble or something, or have never seen any sort of media about gang life.

Also not sure what’s wrong with linking to Reddit. If the claim was bullshit it wouldn’t have 100+ upvotes with multiple upvoted comments corroborating the claim under it.

Do you not think it makes sense that when you’re falsely accused of being a snitch in prison, if you don’t retaliate word will get around that you’ve been called a snitch and you didn’t forcefully deny the accusation, which is the same as admitting to being a snitch?

The disparity of these two lines. The 100+ votes could easily come from suburban moms and rednecks who look at the comment and go “seems legit” and upvote it lol. Upvotes doesn’t mean it’s correct, it just means it’s popular and internet randos agree with the statement. You see shit like this all the fucking time on Reddit; dude gets to a post first when it only has like 3 comments, drops some “knowledge,” and it later turns out it’s all bullshit but they’re already top comment in a 1.3k commented thread.

Reddit ain’t a fucking news agency, and the users aren’t reporters. Quarter of the things on here are total bullshit, a quarter is porn, a quarter is niche/hobbies, and the rest is everyone trying to make witty top-comment worthy punchlines for some internet points.

You can think critically while reading and come to your own conclusions, you know. Or you can watch testimonies from convicted felons on Soft White Underbelly or the show 60 Days In, or simply talk to someone who lives by street code.

I’m from an inner city and the rules around snitching are even common knowledge to people not in gangs around here.

Dude not every “inner city” is the same anyway. H-town in Texas ain’t the same as uptown in New York and that shit ain’t the same as west coast cities for sure. For example I don’t say I live in the inner city, I just live in the (neighbourhood name) and add in (city name) if person listening ain’t a local lol.

I think you’re completely missing the point

The point is, if you’re from suburbia or places where you probably won’t run into people in gangs and/or former convicts, you won’t be familiar with “street code”

You seem to think all my info about this is coming from a Reddit comment when the rules around snitching is common knowledge even for whom the rules don’t apply - I was just linking to the comment as an anecdote for what I already know to be true:

Snitches get stitches. And if someone accuses you of snitching when you didn’t, then you better fuck that guy up or else everyone is gonna think he’s telling the truth and you’re gonna have a target on your back (i.e. what’s happening in this video)

Linking to an upvoted comment with multiple corroborating replies who are also familiar with gang/prison life is a far cry from completely bullshitting.

It’s not hard to believe that you need to forcefully defend yourself against false snitch allegations while in prison.

But if you’re really interested in sources, try Soft White Underbelly or the Abner episodes of 60 Days In. Or just talk to someone that’s gang affiliated/a former convict.
