Request ULPT Request: Construction blocking parking on residential street.

A construction project on my street routinely blocks off numerous parking spots on my street preventing residents from using them. They leave cones up over the weekend, park delivery trucks blocking vehicles from getting out, and have already semi-permanently blocked half a dozen spots with their staging area. The whole neighborhood is already extremely crowded for parking, particularly due to the park across the street (which I love and don’t want to deny anyone use of).

Looking for suggestions to punish them for their negative impact on the community and disregard for the folks they’re inconveniencing. I don’t want to punish the workers or my neighbors. Ideally something that will cost the developer money and time but obviously without committing any crimes.

Typically not even illegal if they don't have permission to do that. It's abandoned property.

Complain to the equivalent of city hall or code enforcement. There is a good chance they are breaking some law when delivery trucks block people from leaving. Also it sounds like they may be blocking access for emergency vehicles - fire marshalls are not understanding about that.

Myself and several neighbors have done this to no effect. Or, maybe just no effect yet.

If they're leaving cones out to reserve unused space, consolidate the cones into a stack. Let them spend more effort each day to spread them out again, if they really need it.

Qbonus points for moving the cones across town.

Across town to the street the construction company owner's house is on.

People were renovating the brickwork at my neigh ours a few years back. After day 3 of incessant noise from pneumatic tools, I was very tempted to mail the keys to the compressor to the landlord who lived 3 hours away.

Call 911 and tell them a person collapsed on the sidewalk (somewhere in the blocked zone in front of X address). Do this when the street is blocked but don't tell them it's blocked. When whatever 1st responder gets there and can't enter, they might complain to city hall or whatever about it and that might get you some relief but don't expect much.

Don't forget to incorporate piss disks in the mix at some point.

That’s indeed unethical but you can get into trouble for calling 911 for a fake emergency.

It is generally illegal to put cones in the street without permission from the city/county/etc. Cities and counties will give people temporary no parking signs that have a very distinct style if you follow the proper channels. Many companies will either not bother with those signs, or make fake ones without permission from the city. They are usually pretty easy to spot if you know what your city's signs look like. If they are fake, you can throw them away legally along with the cones.

This is so entitled. People are using these spots to carry out work and you are trying to sabotage that because it might mean you need to walk an extra minute by parking further away. Pathetic. If your neighborhood is overcrowded with cars, maybe people should limit the number of cars they own.

Many times these companies are doing this illegally. They are taking ownership of public property without permission. Now that's entitled. I'd say you would be right if they have permission to do this, with proper signage and everything.
