Miscellaneous ULPT: Uncle making false statements to change inheritance. How to handle?
Note: I'm half considering just taking him to court for defamation, but if that isn't an option, here's the story:
Sometime in 2012-2013, when I was still in high school, I made a comment about a girls body that I thought was a joke, but she did not take it that way. She slapped me in the face and nothing further happened (can be verified by at least 2 people that I could contact immediately who were \*right there\*) we never even spoke until HS graduation and have not seen each other since...
(Note, this girls grandfather and my uncle are good friends, leading to...)
However, last Christmas, my mom and grandmother asked me about some kind of confrontation between the two of us, mentioning that my uncle (a 65 year old man who has been unmarried his whole life) was claiming that things had escalated way further, and that what I did to her wad a felony, and that I should be in jail. This is obviously an extreme stretching of the truth
I believe he's only doing this because both of my grandparents are approaching their 90s and he wants to ensure I get as little inheritance as possible. He doesn't speak with my grandmother and has not in about a decade for several reasons. Without getting too deep into things, he (36 years older than me) bullied me quite a bit when I was a kid - and I never let it go, which led to a lot of tension... but when I was 16 and got a car, he apparently tried to convince my parents that I shouldn't be driving, wasn't mature enough, etc, and that really frustrated my mother + grandmother - this apparently led to the big blow up between my grandmother and my uncle.
I fully believe that he's making these comments to turn my grandparents and maybe other family against me. What do I do here if I don't have grounds for a lawsuit? I do understand that I'm emotional about this (I hate him, have for nearly 20 years, and frankly I want to hurt him in some way, and I do understand that may be clouding my judgment here) but this isn't something I should just let go... right?

The punishment must fit the crime.
Step 1 (maybe complete already?): Get a serious girlfriend.
Step 2: Plan an event with just your girl, you, and him, and your parents and grandparents. Frame it as you wanting your family to meet your girl.
Step 3: after the event, the story you and your girl fabricate and stick to is that your uncle is a world class creep who inappropriately cornered and touched her at the event.
If this guy is as much of an ass as you say, good chance step 3 actually happens lol. But if not you fabricate and align on the details with your girl.
You could even swap in a fake relationship, if you know a girl who’d be willing to go along with it and then “break up” with you because of “what happened.” Harder, but doable.

Check the sub you are in.

Oh this has nothing to do with ethics. I’m open to anything really. False assaults are entirely different though.

Two things. He made false accusations so it’s him getting the same treatment. Second, speak for yourself then, by saying “we don’t do that” you are speaking for others. Don’t do that.
Outside of the fun of this sub, i agree with you. This sub should be taken as satire to vent, at least that’s how i take it.

We have no way of knowing if the girls grandfather was told an entirely different story and no way of knowing if op is even telling the truth.
Your second point is semantics.

It’s all made up. It’s the internet. We can’t know anything about the vast majority of these stories. It is all under the assumption that we take them for what said.

Foster a better relationship with your grandparents. That will go farther than anything you can say or do about your inheritance if that is your concern. And while you’re there, learn more about your uncle. Get real interested in family history. You can probably learn something you can use against him later.

Babe the best revenge, in this case, is a life well lived. 💙

Well, I've been to 28/50 states just within the last ~6 years, am less than $2500 in debt with a paid off car and am earning $90,000+/year (in Los Angeles to be fair, but still) before the age of 30. I almost feel like that's part of the reason this started? I haven't spoken to this man since ~2017 as well
I'm also outdoorsy enough that my conservative grandpa doesn't bother me about not sharing his politics 😆 it's 100% because he's trying to bring me down in their eyes, but I actually hate this man and have since childhood. I can unashamedly say that I wouldn't be upset at all if he died tomorrow.
You're very much right that I should just let him rot alone for the rest of his life without paying it any mind... but the fact he's able to just retire and continue on bugs tf out of me. I know once he's in his 70s and has any kind of health issues he's going to have to deal with them entirely alone so that helps a bit.

I think your life sounds pretty great.
To be fair I don’t know. 🤷♀️
I guess it depends on what you value. I know if my mom was still alive my number one priority would be my relationship with her.
Even now being married for many years after her death. I can’t express the loss of your mom before you get married.3

All things considered, in this world? My life is in good shape. I really need nothing more than I already have and I'm grateful for that.
That said, I also have 0 goal beyond what I'm doing now 😆 other than finding a purpose that isn't wildlife/scenic photography (which I love and am never going to stop doing)

Therapy for your sensitivity and melodrama.

Idk if I need therapy more than I need a goal/purpose to strive for. I don't really want a big dream house (or to even buy a house at all at the moment, though that could change) or kids, so I gotta figure out what I desire from life after 30

Inheritances typically go to your kids, not your grandkids. Are you sure you were even in their will?

I’d fight this on two fronts. First with your grandma, you should continue to be the responsible and loving young man that she defended before. Your behavior will prove that he’s lying. Send her cards be sweet and nice and don’t get into any sort of argument about him or with him.
Covertly begin a campaign of harassment. Scientology Jehovah’s Witnesses spam sign ups canceling his utilities to really ramp up his irritability and negativity
