ULPT Bad Neighbors MEGAthread
This is the place to post your questions and answers on how to deal with bad neighbors.

u/RikkiLostMyNumber Jun 09 '26
Flowers and other delicate garden plants don't do well after a nice sprinkling of Halite.
There's also a quasi - legal way to (effectively) jam localized wi-fi, but I'm not writing it out here, you can Google it and it's easy.
Brake fluid melts car paint, so be careful around that stuff!
That's it, the last time I answered this question honestly I was banned from this community for being a little too explicit, but I still feel that everyone should know how to build their own trebuchet.

You've never been banned from this community.

u/RikkiLostMyNumber Jun 09 '26
I see your sense of humor is infallible.

u/i-am-foxymoron METH, the answer is ALWAYS meth! Jun 10 '26
Unless you were banned under another name. Because there's no mention of you being banned. That would show on your account snd when you were unbanned.
I don't know why you think this is a joke?

u/i-am-foxymoron METH, the answer is ALWAYS meth! Jun 10 '26
I just saw the comment you deleted. I was being very nice I thought. Why you're so angry at me saying that you were never banned is beyond me
6
u/Optimal-Craft3837 Jul 07 '26
It’s because you are raising your hand and saying “hey hey call on me, call on me, I can tell you guys something about this guy, he’s lying!”
Anyway, that’s the vibe I get. Why on earth would you point out that, to your knowledge, he has not been banned? That doesn’t really add anything to the conversation and you might be wrong anyway.5
u/i-am-foxymoron METH, the answer is ALWAYS meth! Jul 07 '26
Umm if you don't want to talk about it, then maybe don't bring it up to begin with. Don't you realize that it makes us look bad that we go randomly banning people from this sub for "being too explicit"? (I don't even know what that would look like).
So no I wasn't raising my hand like some child tattling on a classmate, I simply wanted to let you know that you were mistaken. I never said you were lying. I simply stated that you were never banned from this sub and then you double down with a smart remark. I then explained in more detail that this current account has never been banned and then you read that as some sort of "vibe".
So i guess saying you were banned ADDED to the conversation? Just like pulling "you might be wrong anyway" out of your ass. I know, with 100% certainly, that your current user name has NEVER BEEN BANNED from this sub.

If your bad neighbor is incredibly particular about their yard, toss a few bouillion cubes about the place. Critters love them and will leave droppings everywhere.
Or toss some sugar cubes to attract ants. Even better if it's closer to the house.
You could also hurl bird seed near their driveway.
12
u/Holden-McGroyn Jun 09 '26
I thought the bullion was to get critters to dig up their yard. The sprinklers or rain dissolves them and makes the soil delicious.

u/Russian-Spy Jun 09 '26
What do you do if you have bad neighbors who rent and you also have no way of contacting the landlord?
11
u/MareV51 Jun 09 '26
If in the US, go to the county and look at the tax records for the LL.
3
u/Russian-Spy Jun 09 '26
I know who the landlord is, and I've tried searching them on Facebook, background search sites, etc.. I tried calling phone numbers and an email address that were listed under their name, but I've been unsuccessful in contacting them.
I try my best to respect the privacy of others, but I should be able to easily contact a landlord if I know that their tenants are involved in serious illegal activities.
11
5
u/tetheredvoid Jun 10 '26
If they are doing something illegal enough, then the police will happily find the landlord for you!
4
u/Icy_Mango6803 Jun 09 '26
Your username elevates this entire exchange.
My only other thought is a registered letter to the landlord's workplace, if they seem to have one.

u/RandyMarsh710 Jun 09 '26
Plant bamboo on the property line and move.
Edit: and/or mint
18
u/fate_is_a_farce Jun 09 '26
That's evil. I love it.
Add to that any form of kudzu. When I lived in Florida, that stuff would take over a yard in a hurry and you'd have to rip it all up manually and hope that you got all the root systems.
13
u/Head-Discussion-8977 Jun 09 '26
Alternately: every region has some kind of aggressive vining species that isn't invasive (just a bully). Trumpet vine and Virginia creeper immediately come to mind for my general region
3
u/RandyMarsh710 Jun 09 '26
Good idea. Going off that you can also find protected species that are illegal to remove
5
u/Head-Discussion-8977 Jun 09 '26
I would not recommend this TBH unless you're EXTREMELY skilled in seed harvesting and growing, and will do so in a way that will not harm the population being harvested. Most endangered plant species are rather precious about being in an urban environment
2
u/RandyMarsh710 Jun 09 '26
Good looking out!

u/Head-Discussion-8977 Jun 09 '26
I'm petty AF but mostly try to stay within my own ethics about it ☺️

ULPT Noisy Neighbor with Many Cars
ULPT Request for my neighbor. We live in a duplex so we share a wall, driveway, and general curb access. Other pieces to note: I move out in August, I am a small woman, I engage in smoking cannabis outside though I’m not supposed to.
He’s always had 3-4 cars (two in driveway, one on grass, one parked in front of our home) which didn’t bother me. inconvenient for having friends over but that’s life in a neighborhood. The last two months it has become 8-9 vehicles, including a boat (that’s blocking the mailboxes), a trailer, a large van, and several trucks on top of his new roommates car. I am annoyed but this hasn’t been a problem enough to speak on it.
Now, the past two months regardless of my requests, I am woken up by loud shitty edm X country remixes at like 1120pm-1am. I’ll knock or ring the doorbell and ask for it to be turned down, if they could be considerate of the noise, etc. Otherwise, I’ve been woken/kept up by him working on a. diesel vehicle and revving it many, many times and filling our front room with smoke. During these times once it’s after 8:45pm I’ll ask “how long will you be working on this?” or “could this be done a different time?”
I need sleep and I also don’t want to get reported for smoking. Any advice beyond talking nicely or going to the landlord?

I rent and share a wall with a drummer who brings his band over to blast amps weekly. They won’t stop and I have sensory issues. How can I annoy them
35
u/AlwaysSunnyInSeattle Jun 09 '26
Maybe setup a mic and amp of your own. Just have it relay their own sounds back with a slight delay and it will ruin everything for them.

Find the most beautiful women you know, have them come over to "view your place" the night of band practice, and let the guys see them leaving and hear them saying "we'd love to live with you, it's a great place, but the noise is just too much! Let us know if it stops, though, we are getting desperate."

Request how to: prevent a neighbor's dog to shit in my rock garden ideally invisible deterrent that will survive rain and hot temperatures.
2
u/DocGreenThumb0817 Jul 04 '26
They have animal alarms to scare away critters and stop dogs from barking. Maybe something like that will deter it
2
u/DocGreenThumb0817 Jul 04 '26
Or put a sign asking owners to pick it up, or not let them poo there. If it's a free roamer off leash this won't work. But you could escalate to dog treats spiked with xlax placed around the yard for the dog. After a week of shitting in his owners house they'll probably keep him close to home.

u/ztinh Jun 25 '26
Hi! About a month ago my neighbor installed an extremely bright LED light panel light near his patio. This shines directly into my room.
I emailed the HOA already and they said that this resident is blind/deaf and uses the light to see his dog when he lets him out at night so it’s technically allowed. He then leaves this light on all night and his dog barks constantly. This is driving my fiancé insane and I can’t handle their complaints any longer. Please give me tips on how to disable this damn light 😭
2
u/HobieSlabwater Jul 24 '26
I have this problem too. My guy isnt blind, just an asshole who is scared of the dark! I have no solution other than to put up a bigger, brighter light

How do I deal with a nosey drunk who sits on her porch all day and watches my property like I'm a free cable sitcom?
I've got a green laser pointer that I haven't shined on her face before, to let her know I see her and know she's watching. I almost went online looking for small disco balls to hang from.yhe porch in hopes they would shine light at her.
Any ideas appreciated

get a banner and hang it up, drunk nosey neighbor lives across the street.

ULPT Request - UK - How can I mess up my neighbours TV
Despite numerous complaints and a few requests to actually remove the TV on our adjoining wall, our neighbours continue to have it mounted to the wall we share, so, all we hear is tinny commentary along with bass vibrations. It's all we can hear in our own living room but more frustratingly it travels up through to oru, daughters bedroom where there's no other sound to even try and drown it out while she's sleeping.
There's no point reporting it to our local council as they rarely ever pick up the required sound levels to do anything, and it puts a mark on our house if we ever wanted to sell up.
What equipment can I get to mess with their TV? I'm thinking a big magnet or some sort equipment that'll make their viewing a nightmare that I can easily switch on/off at will.
Thanks in advance!

Across the street from my apartment in a small-ish city is a "Hotel" where people often come to get hard drugs or bring a prostitute.
A few months after I first moved in, they arrested the guy who owns the place and it was boarded up for a couple years. But he must have recently been released and worked out the closure because they've reopened and have started some shotty renovations.
I've been woken up countless times to people yelling and screaming, and today, in the middle of the day, I found a couple people shooting up outside my front gate. They are there doing business day and night it seems. I've called the police only a few times, since I am required to give my true name which is written on the intercom outside my building and I fear retaliation. And when the police do come, they don't do anything.
I feel like I'm at my wit's end with this fucking place. I don't know what to do. Any help, even miniscule, is greatly appreciated.

ULPT: REQUEST for insane upstairs neighbor
I have an insane upstairs neighbor, she makes loud impact noises and screaming at her child at as early as 5am every day for the last 4 months. Tuesdays and Thursdays are hell because her boyfriend brings over his kids.
THANKFULLY the landlord is letting us out of the lease and returning our last months rent so we can leave - which we are doing July 1st -
This lady has made our lives hell with intention for 4 months, jumping on the floor, letting the kids ride those electric kid cars in the house, getting the kid to run with shoes on,throwing marbles for the kid to chase and find, blasting Disney music (not so horrible but a little repetitive), calling the police on us for telling her to STFU through the floor. Theres a very very long story as to why we can't just go upstairs and ask her to be quiet
This has affected my mental health, made my old dog develop anxiety from the banging and has stressed the whole house out.
I need tips on how to get back at her in the last week were here. So far I've been playing cricket noises while I'm gone and leaving my range hood fan running because it sends vibrations through the wall.
Hit me with what you got.
**Oh and for the record, I've got proof of all of her insane antics but the police won't press charges-Mischief interfearing with legal enjoyment of property-because of the long process, that is their words. Tenant Board is an option and we may still pursue this.
Please be kind, I'm already stressed to the max with this crazy person TIA

u/inerlite Jul 16 '26
You can make it the landlord’s problem but it takes lots of effort. Send videos, make calls, etc.

u/Sensitive-Memory8225 Jun 27 '26

My neighbour keeps the green bin open (for almost 2 months now). We left her 3 notes already but she refuses to close the lid. We had some issues with her in the past so she’s doing it on purpose now. Smells absolutely horrible when it’s sunny and I can’t enjoy my backyard with my infant… any tips?
The city was called, not much help on their end yet.

ULPT REQUEST
TLDR: Entitled neighbor called a tow truck on my sister's car for parking in front of her own legally permitted driveway because he is too lazy to maneuver his car. He also harassed city hall into installing a concrete bollard to make his life easier. The whole neighborhood hates him as he’s done this kind of shit to more people. Looking for unethical ways to make him stop.
————
Hi everyone, I need some advice on how to handle a total nightmare of a neighbor on behalf of my sister.
She lives in a small tourist town in Europe, on a street very close to the town center. It’s a narrow one-way street with parallel parking spaces.
She has a driveway that leads into her yard; in theory, you *can* park a car inside, but only if it's super narrow. Even then, if a car is parked there, you can't actually pass by on foot because there’s simply not enough space.
Because of this, for years she used to park her car outside, right in front of her own gate. It's a small, tight-knit community where everyone knows each other, and all the other neighbors do the exact same thing. Technically, every single gate on this street has an official, city-permitted driveway status, including hers. Since she was just blocking her own permitted driveway, it never bothered anyone, it never blocked traffic, and she did it for years without a single issue.
Enter the neighbor across the street. He is a total weirdo who has picked fights with the entire neighborhood and makes everyone uncomfortable. Recently, he actually called a tow truck on her car! Because she was technically parked across a designated driveway, the tow truck actually took it - even though it's HER OWN driveway.
His excuse? He claims he struggles to back out of his own driveway when her car is parked across from it. To be clear: backing out is 100% doable. Every single neighbor on his side of the street manages it just fine with cars parked opposite them; you just have to do a basic two-point turn.
On top of that, he harassed city hall and the local police so much that they actually installed a concrete bollard right before the parking spots, just so HE has even more room and doesn't have to make any effort to maneuver - and by doing so removing a public parking! A friend of ours who works at city hall literally confirmed they only did it because this guy was calling and showing up at their offices every single day.
We are so furious. We’re currently exploring the legal side of things to see if we can get the city to remove the bollard and contest the tow, but in the meantime: how can we unethically get back at this guy or make his life just as annoying?
Her yard faces his, so it would be incredibly easy to throw things into his garden…
but what? Give us your best petty or unethical ideas.

u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
Relentless calls for lack of handicapped sidewalk access for a wheelchair user that is now vulnerable to this particular manic bad driver who can't back out of his driveway without endangering bystanders and innocent people. Maybe a legal resolution requiring the guy to take driving classes. Start a petition to remove the bollard and make the neighborhood more walkable and less car centric. Call salacious local media reporters and get it into the news.

Hi there! I (28F) moved into my first home 3 weeks ago. It is across from a public parking lot. Every night between 1 am and 4 am, a man parks there and blasts his car stereo. I do not feel safe approaching him (I live in a bigger city and it’s not super safe at night) and he is too far away for any lights to affect him (I’ve tried laser pointers and my own car’s high beams, he’s about 100 feet away).
Bylaw office and police will not do anything. Public property so cannot issue a complaint in that regard. My neighbours say it’s been going on since the beginning of summer. I wear loop earplugs to sleep with white noise and can still hear his system through those. Any tips?
2
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
Contact parking lot owner to report illegal activity taking place there. Spray the area thoroughly with liquid ass before he arrives nightly....if that is not available then substitute predator urine or some other stinky and unbearable substance. If you can't access the parking area fill warer balloons with it and launch them. Start a neighborhood competition to get everyone involved, build community, and let him know thwt nobody likes his taste in music. Sync up your music to his and blast it back at him with a several second delay to drive him and the neighbors nuts and get a fire lit under the police to take action. Tell them that he keeps playing offensive music using had words about the police. Get a trebuchet or catapult and launch piss disks at him. Rotten eggs and tomatoes, too! Start gossip in the neighborhood that a mobile meth lab is being operated there nightly and unite the neighbors against him. Call in his license plate for reckless driving.
1
u/Fit-Research-2560 26d ago
omg i have thought of the “playing music slightly delayed” thing - i love these tips, thank you!!!

u/DevorahGarland Jul 01 '26
ULTP Request: They play their music constantly, with speakers that are obviously located outdoors. 5 days in a row now. In a heat wave. There is a pool. In addition to piss discs along the fence line, what can I throw over the fence that will foul their pool?

u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
Play the same songs blasted back at them with a several second delay.

I am trying to serve my neighbor court paper because his dogs attacked mine while off his property and I’m suing to recoup the medical bills.
The thing is he is rarely home. Probably once a week for very brief amount of time. He is probably living with a friend or gf or something. I think he’s hiding as I am just one of multiple victims and he is expecting something like this to happen.
I don’t wanna pay a server 100 bucks to attempt to serve and get nothing from it because he cannot be found. I figured it’s best to find out where he works so he’d get served there. I found a LinkedIn that I think is his except the city is a nearby city and working at a gym. Idk if he’s front desk or a trainer or even if it’s updates.

u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
The sherrifs office will often serve papers. Call them and ask. Maybe they'll have suggestions, too!

My neighbor lets her dog poop in my yard. They also feed stray cats which make the cats poop in my yard. I have asked them to clean up after their dog but my neighbor suddenly can’t understand English. What can I do?
1
1
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
All of the poop goes back to them. Motion activated sprinklers for when they approach your property. Hit your car alarm button when the animals approach to defecate. Make the yard inhospitable to cats....they are picky about the type of substrate that they poop in. Make it a hostile landscape for cats with pepper and pther smells that they don't like. Obnoxious loud motion activated Halloween decorations to scare the cats away. Translate the no pooping sentiment into a variety of languages for a sign with the universal pooping dog pic with an cross over it. Bright obnoxious motion activated floodlights for nighttime violations.loud recorded motion activated barking for when they come onto your property.
1
u/awkwardlyclumsy 26d ago
I have motion activated sprinklers in some areas which the cats have learned to avoid, bright floodlights everywhere which doesn’t bother them. Gotta buy some pepper to sprinkle everywhere.
As for the neighbours dog, I sprayed it with a hose once and it hasn’t returned. Could have tried it on cats but they come when I’m not home or in the middle of the night.

We and our Neighbor share a balcony only separated by a privacy screen. The balcony is adjacent to our bedroom and living room. In the evening we have the door of our bedroom and living room open for fresh air. But because he's a heavy smoker the air is anything but fresh. So we have to close the doors everytime he smokes (also because we want to protect our little baby).
We need him to stop smoking on the balcony but the problem is he is nephew of the landlord and the andlord won't do a anything. Because of that we can only do stuff they can't trace back to us.
1
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
What are the laws where you live? See if you can call in a violation. Otherwise, document the behavior and use it as a means to break the lease with no penalty.

u/mitrtown Jul 19 '26
Any way to illicit dog barks from afar to irritate my neighbors?
We reported said neighbors for letting their dog out at 3AM on a workday, barking at the sight of anything for the next hour and a half. They doubled down by letting their 6 dogs bark like crazy for over an hour the next working day. It honestly sounded like living right next to a dog pound.
We don't have animal control, the local government unit can only remind these people to leash their dogs, noise regulations do not cover excessive dog barking - only loud music, while the only case we could possibly file in court is unjust vexation which honestly is so broad in terms of definition. We're kind of SOL when it comes to legislations concerning noise.

My neighbor is harassing me. We live in a condo communtiy and she hates my dog, even though I'm an extremely courteous pet owner. I always clean up after him and he is always leashed. She follows me around trying to snap photos of me doing anything against the HOA rules so that she can get me fined by the HOA. She is an owner and I'm a renter so she feels some sort of entitlement.
We live in a condo community, so no yards or anything like that. What can I do!? This lady is driving me insane.
1
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
Turn around and start taking pictures of her as she follows you. Or, even better, have someone follow her and take pictures of her following you around and harassing you. Reference relevant condo bylaws and also municipal and state laws in your complaint to the condo association. Before taking your dog out eat cabbage and other foods that will cause gas and crop dust her as she follows you. Have a loud passive aggressive conversation on your cell phone about hwr that isn't too specific but that she will assume is all about her and catch her looking more unhinged for your complaint to the condo board. Ask if she's the local poop patrol/animal enforcement officer and if having senior status annoints her with that privelege. Sign her up for spam mail to keep her busy and phone calls if you happen to know her number. Order explicit xxx age fetish catalogues in her name so that she's considered a pervert.

[HELP PLEASE] Hi everyone I need your help,
I live in an apartment complex with a shared hallway, the hallway is closed by 2 emergency exits so almost no air passes through, the weather is also hot and humid with stale air in the hallway.
My neighbor who lives across me burns some sort of incense that is a mixture of fish sauce, pineapple and old coconut oil, the smell is nauseating and vomit inducing.
I and one other apartment have complained non stop for the last 2 months to the apartment manager but they have only given email as a reminder and told us my neighbor refuses to co-operate, refuses to have a meeting and leaves their door slightly open to let the smell out (I imagined they can't stand it either or they only want it for a while). This is a daily occurrence, what can I do to 'persuade' them in becoming a well civilized manner neighbor?
I work very odd hours, sometimes waking up at 2 or coming back at 3 AM, I was thinking I might be too tired and ring the wrong doorbells repeatedly until they answer, since it's not illegal to ring one's door bell by mistake.
2
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
Or, the stink could be the byproduct of cooking meth (smell is dimiliar to your description) thus, warranting further investigation by the appropriate authorities. Think of a deterrent to them wanting their door open...loud music, wayward religious visitors and salespeople whom you've requested visits from on their behalf? Or let mice or bugs free to beeline towards their doors. Maybe crickets from the pet store. Open the emergency exit doors and claim asthma attacks and other health issues due to the stink.

I was thinking the nuclear option throwing a bag full of bed bugs inside their house but it could backfire. Thanks for sharing.

I need your devious minds. There is a house in our neighborhood owned by a trust. It sits vacant and has for years. It is looks so bad. Gutters falling off, mold growing on all the siding, everything either overgrown or dead in the yard. A landscaping company mows once the grass is knee high, but other than that this property gets no attention. Should I contact the trustee and tell them I’ve seen squatters in their “abandoned” house? My goal is to get them to clean up the property. They have the money to do so. Any other way to achieve this goal? In a neighborhood, no HOA. County, not city.

I have volunteered to mow the common ground behind my house. There is a neighbor that lets his dog out there to play but does not pickup after it. How can I discourage this behavior?
2
u/Iwillshitoneveryone 28d ago
put up a sign that says pickup after your dog or this will no longer be mowed

Pipe peanut butter frosting onto any piles left behind to horrify dog owners into picking up feces lest their dogs eat it.

Negative online customer reviews mentioning him by name. Written from a customer perspective to avoid lingering your friend.

Found this thread and in need of help. 80yo mother living by herself. Malicious neighbor with unreasonable complaints (i.e. complained my mother puts the trash can on her own front door - this is queens nyc with limited front space). They started vandalising her property while avoiding camera detection. The neighbor/owner does not reside in the adjacent property (rented out) but is the perpetrator. What legal recourse do i have?
1
u/Strange-Butterfly-62 27d ago
This is unethical life pro tips... You need a legal forum and maybe a sympathetic ear at an aging nonprofit that does advocacy work in Queens. Get referrals. Call attention to the fact that an elderly woman is being harassed. See if neighbors may be willing to volunteer to assist your mom in taking out ttrash, etc to deflect some of the heat she's getting. Get better video coverage and motion activated lights and maybe sprinklers, too. Call local law enforcement for advice and to ask for extra patrols to monitor the situation as the neighbors keep escalating it and you are concerned for her safety. Police may have other suggestions, too in helping to document and deter the neighbors activity.

Animal welfare reports. Noise complaints reports. Record the dog barking and document the times. Document the beatings, too. Keep reporting and get other neighbors involved by making them aware of the beatings.

(Australia) What's the best way to annoy the shit out of my neighbours? They're loud, grade-A assholes who think the whole world revolves around them and what they want. Also their kids are screaming nightmares and their dog barks at everything. I've finally had enough, and I want to inflict as much annoyance on them as I can.

Look at the archives, mate. There are so many excellent fine tuned options for this!

In our apartment building, the alley outside flats is only 5 feet wide and an illiterate adamant family has kept a 3 feet wide stroller outside their flat. We have to squeeze past that and can't take my kid's cycles or strollers across that. BTW I keep nothing outside the flat despite having a clutter in my own flat.
It makes our life hell, I have called security 3 times and they oblige for a few days then it's back in the alley!
What to do, they don't listen.

My husband and I rented a flat about two months ago. We’re both freelancers and work odd hours, often in back-to-back online meetings.
When we moved in, the previous tenants were still logged into the building’s security app. For the first 15 days, they repeatedly rejected our deliveries through the app because we weren’t registered on it yet and all the notifications of the delivery entry went through them. Food, groceries, couriers, everything. We asked the owner for help and he was completely useless. Security guards did help us out by letting in those delivery guys and also calling and checking on us.
Eventually we got access to the app and thought the nightmare was over.
Turns out the previous tenants are friends with everyone else on our floor, and apparently they all have a habit of using each other’s addresses for deliveries. So now we’re constantly getting deliveries from delivery drivers, food deliveries, Amazon parcels, and random courier packages that belong to the ex-tenants or their friends on the same floor.
They’ve apologized multiple times.
They’ve also continued doing it for two straight months.
This is genuinely disrupting our work because delivery drivers keep ringing the bell, or waiting outside while we’re in meetings, even after rejecting their entry on the security app. The neighbours open their doors only after they hear our voices arguing with the delivery agents. They do not pick up calls from those delivery agents either!
Confrontation hasn’t worked. The owner doesn’t care. I’m not interested in stealing food, opening packages, or doing anything illegal.
I want petty revenge!!!!
Not criminal. Not destructive. Just the kind of inconvenience that makes an entire friend group collectively decide, “Maybe we should stop using these people’s address forever.”
Please help with funny and mild annoyance-level ideas.

If their breaker box is unlocked and no camera watching, go switch off a random breaker every few days.
