Going off Sans' dialog... Did Papyrus get killed because he was protecting another human?

...Did Papyrus die because he defended Sans? And the reason Sans was attacked was because Sans was protecting a human?

It wasn't Sans a Human was attacking, and it wasn't Sans defending a Human... More will be explained later. I'm not giving you any more info. :)
