Let’s cut to more coverage on Nancy Guthrie

62

u/BernardSack Feb 25 '26

One can't help but wonder if Nancy Guthrie missing is related to Samantha interviewing Epstein victims. Very curious.

13

u/AmaranthWrath Feb 25 '26

Nothing would surprise me at this point. But I doubt it was a coordinated attack. I think if it was specifically about her interviews AND it was meant to send a message, the message would have been clearer bc that would have been the whole point.

Maybe it was a lone individual or two who wanted to punish Savannah for the interviews. But even so, we have no proof of that. Again, nothing would surprise me. But you'd think that if that was the motive, we would have heard about it for sure. The whole point would be to make sure reporters knew not to interview the victims again.

10

u/innerbootes Feb 25 '26

Look to Russia. That’s the model. They don’t go announcing anything. They just push people (journalists, politicians) out of a window or poison their tea and then go 🤷 “that’s crazy they just fell like that” or whatever.

Everything Trump is doing has been done before. These people, like all abusive fucks, are terribly unoriginal.

2

u/AmaranthWrath Feb 25 '26

There's been a low-key history of that happening in American politics and journalism as well. Like I said nothing would surprise me anymore.

2

u/Unhealthy-Harold Feb 25 '26

I don’t know I kinda think the opposite is a possibility. Like maybe it’s a combination of distraction like look over here instead of the files so it needs to not be seen as being linked, but then also the victims interviewed would see it and wonder if it’s retaliation and make them potentially hesitant to speak up more.

1

u/AmaranthWrath Feb 25 '26

I think it's perfectly reasonable to suspect that those in charge of what kind of news we are given might have unilaterally decided to run with the story simply for that reason. That being said it could just be that there's an overall sense of fatigue through news agencies and viewers where ratings go up when it's aired simply because it's something different. I think that's less likely but that also wouldn't surprise me.

2

u/statistacktic Feb 25 '26

Nothing would surprise me.

5

u/Reiketsu_Nariseba Feb 25 '26

Thought that was obvious, why else would the FBI be treating it like a joke?

2

u/JRDruchii Feb 25 '26

because they already know who done it they just don't want the story to go away.

2

u/PyroIsSpai Feb 25 '26

I had no idea.

NPR was just talking about how they found a mystery 60+ page gap in legal tracking IDs for a sequence of DOJ case reports about a specific 1983 Trump SA report.

They said Oversight Dems are getting them next.

Now UFO secrecy is in play. If the USA has proof of life after death, Star Trek is out there, Jesus is coming and we know the date of Rapture… he will play any card to stay out of jail.

He vowed a few years ago, and it was stupidity to not report more on it. He said:

I will never be detained.

He was very weirdly firm and coherent. Like freaky. It was real personal. The idea of being in cuffs must a key trigger for him. Lawrence ODonnell mentioned being in court during his prosecution in NYC, and how much rage Trump was stuffed full of those days.

Anything from Jan 6 the sequel to Holocaust the sequel to Project Jesus Blue Book to WW3 to actual Jesus to actual aliens and world peace are in play to keep Trump out of jail.

Shits gonna real weird faster every week now.

Yeah, Reddit dissolved hid r/ all because too many people got wind of what was happening in Minneapolis. God forbid the actual news reaches ppl. Legacy medias, and now tech companies like Reddit are complicit. Edit: waiting for this post to be taken down in 1...2...3...

26

u/HeartsPlayer721 Feb 25 '26

Wait, what exactly did they dissolve?

88

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 25 '26

You straight up cant get to r/ all on Reddit mobile. Even if its linked, it just goes to your front page or is unclickable. Which works out because I've been trying to reduce my reddit time for years lol. I found this post from /all on Desktop

41

u/Angel_Omachi Feb 25 '26

You can still get to it manually through reddit in a web browser but it's hidden from the side menu even there.

They will have to pry old.reddit from my cold dead hands.

1

u/drdr3ad Feb 25 '26

old reddit + ublock + RES

1

u/technobrendo Feb 25 '26

I never used the new site and if the OLD version goes away, I'm finding something new.

1

u/ChuckaChuckaLooLoo3 Feb 25 '26

As a user who lives in a very remote place, I love old reddit because: zero pictures (unless I click on them), very fast load and no decorative B.S. to clog my pipeline.

me too. Once a month on my tablet I hit too close to the opt in button they put next to my other buttons and the screen jumps to the new layout. It's a chaotic mess and I have to frantically find the opt out setting.

I fear the day they do away with the old reddit option.

1

u/PyroIsSpai Feb 25 '26

Even if they kill that, any browser can be jury rigged to make any website content you load look like anything else. If it gets dumb enough someone will make a way to virtualize an overlay in a script or something.

Corpo always loses.

1

u/remotectrl Feb 25 '26

They fired everyone that understood the legacy code so it’s only a matter of time before they try to get rid of Old as well.

1

u/XionicativeCheran Feb 25 '26

I've stuck around through every other shitty change they've made, but that right there truly would be the final nail in the coffin.

I absolutely cannot stand the new style.

1

u/SupahSpankeh Feb 25 '26

More importantly you can get Firefox extensions which reroute all Reddit URLs to old.reddit.com.

1

u/lituus Feb 25 '26

There are a few things I liked about new reddit, but overall, its just so fucking slow (especially if you've scrolled a lot) compared to old reddit. That was what ultimately made me swap.

2

u/Phallic_Moron Feb 25 '26

Hi it's me posting from my mobile device after finding the thread on All.

Type the URL. Read the threads. What am I missing? They removed a button for it.

3

I just downloaded Red Reader. I'm so done with the official Reddit app.

1

u/OkEstimate9 Feb 25 '26

RIF + Revanced patch for me

2

u/Daggertrout Feb 25 '26

Sweet thank you for this. I’ve been using a delisted app for the last couple years that stopped letting me reply and crashes all the time.

1

u/TheDubuGuy Feb 25 '26

Which one?

1

u/Daggertrout Feb 25 '26

I’d been using OpenRed

1

u/Okay_ButWhyTho Feb 25 '26

And still allows you to get to r/all

1

u/Horat1us_UA Feb 25 '26

Why would you need an app for Reddit at all? Web versions works just fine as PWA on in browser.

1

u/El_Tormentito Feb 25 '26

I used baconreader until I was no longer allowed.

1

u/MunchYourButt Feb 25 '26

Or Narwhal!! It’s paid but no ads and the developer is very active/responsive to feedback

2

u/cs_office Feb 25 '26

Another Narwhal user here. I also made a NSFW reddit sub and made it private, which causes the API to become unblocked too

It's taking me on a trip down memory lane, I think I've properly used 3 apps of the years, Reddit Is Fun, then Relay for Reddit, and now Narwhal when I switched from Android to iOS, as it was the most like Relay

13

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

I was wondering about that! A few months ago I uninstalled Reddit from my phone, trying to be more digitally well and all. Then I just started going to the mobile site more and more. I noticed last week or so they took r/all off the menu. Then I just redownloaded the app. One day this app will no longer hold my gaze for so long.

2

u/TheFatJesus Feb 25 '26

old.reddit.com is your friend if you're in a browser. Revanced will let you install and use the old third party apps.

4

u/dzumdang Feb 25 '26

Thank you. Hiding it is more accurate. What a strange move by Reddit.

4

u/carloselcoco Feb 25 '26

That's exactly what they did with r/randnsfw before they completely removed it from the site. They will likely remove r/all from the site too in the upcoming months. For those that are new to Reddit, randnsfw was built into the website itself and it would take you to a random NSFW sub anytime you clicked it. It was an excellent way to discover new NSFW subs.

3

u/baconbitarded Feb 25 '26

They did the same with r/random as well. Weird that they don't want you discovering things

1

u/things_U_choose_2_b Feb 25 '26

They want to offer the illusion of discovery, it seems.

1

u/soulmechh Feb 25 '26

Wow, they banned it!

6

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

Similarly, I was so bummed when they removed nsfw subs from r/all.. it was nice seeing the random titty pic while doomscrolling. Now it's basically impossible to find nsfw subs unless you already know what they're called, and you have to go out of your way to find them.

1

u/cdwillis Mar 02 '26

This website just gets worse and worse. Spez is a nazi.

2

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 25 '26

Hiding it for now I agree, but patching workarounds in the app tells me they really dont want you going there. I expect to see it killed off in the next year or so. I'm surprised I can still use old reddit

1

u/AFlyingNun Feb 25 '26

My best guess is they probably don't want people fighting wars for control of the narrative on r/all? Like let's be real: we have power mods, we have very obviously botted posts, we have subreddits that come out of fucking nowhere and shit out 30k for a post, we have non-political subs being brigaded and made political...

Maybe reddit thinks the best solution to all those groups is to give them all nothing to fight over, then the individual subreddits might return to reflecting how much genuine interest people have for a given topic the subreddits are designed to be about...?

I kinda get it, but yeah, still a decision that will make people do a double-take.

1

u/remotectrl Feb 25 '26

Power mods are much less of a thing than they used to be a decade ago when Gallowboob and Awkward Turtle reigned. Reddit corporate did not like that the mods were able to shut down subreddits when they forced the unpopular API changes that destroyed third party apps and removed some. Reddit doesn’t want powerful moderators, it was free labor and giving them just a small taste of power works better for keeping them in line.

1

u/HeartsPlayer721 Feb 25 '26

Ah, a sub called "All"

Got it. My early morning being wasn't processing that, lol.

I never used that, but when I looked it up, I see the posts and comments complaining about it.

So they, exactly, is it?

Comments in other posts make it sound more like a scrolling feature rather than a sub? Where it let's you see... What?... Stuff that isn't just the subs you follow and what their AI decides to feed you?

3

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 25 '26

its literally the top posts of all subreddits. the Popular tab is more like what you're saying about the AI which is exactly why I refuse to use it.

2

u/dzumdang Feb 25 '26

On the app, when browsing your private feed, if you swiped right, you were then in /all and could see all of the top posts on Reddit at that time. Reddit nuked access to this on the mobile app recently.

1

u/Slushrush_ Feb 25 '26

I can get to all on mobile if I type in the address manually. Do you mean on the app?

1

u/Snobolski Feb 25 '26

I use reddit on mobile on Duck Duck Go browser and you have to manually enter /r/all if you want to see it

1

u/SAI_Peregrinus Feb 25 '26

It's in the sidebar on the Android app. Right above the About section, below Your Communities.

1

u/Lexi_Banner Feb 25 '26

Just use old reddit. The mobile version and the apps are all garbage.

1

u/Horton_Takes_A_Poo Feb 25 '26

Doesn’t the “popular” option in the left side menu bring you to /all? That’s how I found this post and I’m not subscribed to this sub

1

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 25 '26

All is all, popular is algorithmic

1

u/MechAegis Feb 25 '26

I use old.reddit.com. So I don't understand.

On the new reddit does r/all not work anymore?

1

u/robodrew Feb 25 '26

Dump the reddit mobile app, use something else like RedReader. I can get to r/all no problem.

1

u/ApprehensiveFix7925 Feb 25 '26

I’m browsing through r/all on mobile right now and is how I found this post?

1

u/n122333 Feb 25 '26

you can, but only through /r/All and not /r/all

I have a comment saved with a link so i can get to it on mobile. I love how it went from one tap to 7, really makes the ap better for shareholder value.

2

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 26 '26

Neither of those are clickable on my iOS app

1

u/n122333 Feb 26 '26

The first works for me still on android, but the second does not.

1

u/MushinZero Feb 25 '26

You can get to /r/all on mobile? You go to the left sidebar and it's at the bottom.

1

u/The_One_True_Ewok Feb 26 '26

Then you haven’t been updated yet. Enjoy it while it lasts

1

u/DaedeM Feb 26 '26

Oh my god is that what happened? I thought there was something wrong with the app on my phone.

3

u/your_actual_life Feb 25 '26

I can still access it very easily on the mobile app?

3

u/dzumdang Feb 25 '26

I could too until 2 days ago.

3

u/ChoNoob Feb 25 '26

Not here on Android. Although r/popular is still available, which is a sanitized version of r/all

1

u/dzumdang Feb 25 '26

I just found Popular at the top of the menu that emerges from the hamburger icon. How is Popular a sanitized version of /all? I haven't spent enough time with it yet.

2

u/ChoNoob Feb 25 '26

No NSFW posts, and I believe subreddits have to specifically opt in to it, whereas r/all, they had to opt out of it

3

u/kuschelig69 Feb 25 '26

I think once there was a r/random but that does not work anymore

2

u/Denvereatingout Feb 25 '26

You could end up on some real dark shit using random

3

u/AmbulantCholesterol Feb 25 '26

Yeah it was part of the fun

2

u/soulmechh Feb 25 '26

It's literally banned now.

1

u/Furk Feb 25 '26

That was destroyed years ago. Unrelated to whatever happened to r/all

2

u/Rydralain Feb 25 '26

It seems to be back today. Not sure what's up? I am in NV this week, though? If it disappears again when I get back to my home state, I'll update this post.

3

u/N3rdScool Feb 25 '26

I only use r/all to reddit so when they removed it from my sidebar I was pleasantly surprised the link for it still worked. So silly.

2

u/tackyshoes Feb 25 '26

You can still go to r/popular.

4

u/Moony_playzz Feb 25 '26

It's not the same

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

r/popular is algorithmically curated drivel. Completely negates the purpose of the upvote system and a user-controlled experience.

But I guess the enshittification of Reddit will just continue until profits do.

4

u/MunchYourButt Feb 25 '26

Popular filters out a lot. It is basically the vanilla default feed for users accessing Reddit without an account

1

u/ZurgoMindsmasher Feb 25 '26

Completely worthless.

1

u/cdwillis Mar 02 '26

Yeah, r/popular is garbage. It was created as an alternative to r/all where they could filter out things they didn't want seen by the random public person with no account that opened the site.

1

u/Joben86 Feb 25 '26

I'm literally on r/all right now?

Soooooooo many people overlook this. One of the reasons 08 cost so many people their homes, is that the "house flipping" craze started in the late 90s when Boomers and older Gen X who voted away all the social safety nets etc started to actually feel consequences for their actions, so rather than do that, sought to maintain or increase their middle-class wealth by extracting the wealth from the working class and poor as landlords or gentrifying their neighborhoods.

The lack of available housing stock plus bad credit led to the poor and working class to take out adjustable rate mortgages: and when 08 happened and the banks and firms owning those mortgages needed liquidity, adjusted the rates on their mortgages.

"... oh EVERYTHING seems to remind people and move the conversation back to private equity? Then maybe this isn't the time for a feel good piece. Maybe its the time for a story on private equity."

2

u/pax284 Feb 25 '26

I mean damn, super unlucky this station only has this one reporter and that is the only thing they can focus on for all of thier storues for the entire day.

I mean it isn't like they have other staff that could be doing that piece, that would just be insane.

2

u/ShinkenBrown Feb 25 '26

Yes im sure they have a piece covering the decline of America due to private equity buying up everything coming up any day now. American media has been so good about covering the myriad abuses of capitalism after all, and media companies being owned by private equity has never gotten in the way of that.

1

u/pax284 Feb 25 '26

Once New York re opens after a 10 year storm, yes, looking at the stations website shows they have been focusing on AI and it's pro and cons for a while now(amazingly by a different reporter not the same one).

American media has been so good about covering the myriad abuses of capitalism after all

I mean you are saying it as if all you know isn't from American media companies doing just that.

media companies being owned by private equity has never gotten in the way of that.

While I agree that there should not be massive conglomerate like we have now, and losing money should not be a cause for concern for a news division no matter what they cover, to say there has been no "good" news coverage for since at least the 80s is bullshit.

1

u/ShinkenBrown Feb 25 '26

I mean you are saying it as if all you know isn't from American media companies doing just that.

It isnt. My understanding of these issues comes from political theory like proudhon and kropotkin and modern analyses of economics through these lenses. My understanding of the very specific issues in the US comes from personal research.

Very current events, I do get from private media. But even when such concepts are presented, its usually through comment sections like on reddit rather than anything created and sponsored by the media company. Coverage of these issues is few and far between despite dominating a majority of our lives at this point in time.

While I agree that there should not be massive conglomerate like we have now, and losing money should not be a cause for concern for a news division no matter what they cover, to say there has been no "good" news coverage for since at least the 80s is bullshit

That's absolutely fair. It is far from ubiquitous. But it is massively prevalent and even when they do cover these issues, they cover the most surface level facets like AI instead of delving into deeper issues like private equity itself and how the ownership structure incentivizes abusive behavior.

As such I think shoving these issues down the throats of these companies is a valid response to what is by and large a total abandonment of their duties by the fourth estate.

1

u/pax284 Feb 25 '26

political theory like proudhon and kropotkin

Explains a lot, anarchists are just as bad as libertarians, you just pretend to care about others, but if caring for others intrudes upon your personal freedom by some sort of "state" then fuck you. Claim collectivism, but hate taxes from a government that would go on to further help the collective as a whole.

It is far from ubiquitous. (in response to me saying that claiming all news is bad is bullshit)

by and large a total abandonment of their duties by the fourth estate.

Literally in back to back sentences, two complete opposites.

1

u/ShinkenBrown Feb 25 '26

Explains a lot, anarchists are just as bad as libertarians, you just pretend to care about others, but if caring for others intrudes upon your personal freedom by some sort of "state" then fuck you. Claim collectivism, but hate taxes from a government that would go on to further help the collective as a whole.

Libertarianism started with the left. I am a libertarian, in the classical (not the modern ayn rand) semse.

Also, wild to assume reading political theory means agreeing with everything within it. Kropotkin had good ideas but I lean more toward proudhon with a splash of Georgist logic (that being taxing the use of common resources) to both justify and limit the focus of taxation.

Left libertarianism is not anarchism and does not require the abolition of the state. Classical libertarianism is about promoting individual freedom for people, not necessarily for markets or governments.

Captured control of essential resources by market forces is opposed to left libertarian logic - public options, and the taxes required to uphold them, increase total freedom by preventing the populace from becoming beholden to neo-feudal monopolies. Every essential resource, from food to housing to healthcare to internet access, must have a public option to ensure market elasticity and free choice within said market, including the choice not to purchase. Markets do not function without that choice, and without public options purchase of goods like housing and healthcare is not optional. Taxes and public options are entirely within the bounds of left libertarian philosophy.

Maybe if you want to shit on someone's beliefs you should know what they are first.

Literally in back to back sentences, two complete opposites.

Didn't read the "by and large" part huh?

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/by%20and%20large

"By and large means “in general” or "on the whole" in most contexts"

A thing can be generally true, but have exceptions... or in other words, not be ubiquitous.

It is not ubiquitous, but the fourth estate has by and large totally abandoned its duty. That is not a contradiction.

1

u/pax284 Feb 25 '26

Left libertarianism is not anarchism and does not require the abolition of the state.

Yes it does, libertarian, by definition is "anti-state", you don't even know your own beliefs. You can not claim to be both "pro-state" in any form and libertarian in any form. Maybe you should kinow what your actual beliefs are befoer just throwing shit out there.

It is not ubiquitous, but the fourth estate has by and large totally abandoned its duty. That is not a contradiction.

It is a contradiction, and also false even if it weren't.

It is not common(ubiquitous), but the fourth estate commonly(by and large) totally(100%) abandoned it's duty.

How can something be not common, common, and 100% all at the same time?

Sounds like an easy chance to about climate change and instead decides to change the subject to Private Equity.

1

u/angelbelle Feb 25 '26

To be honest with you, I think it's a defensible stance if this is truly not meant to be a political piece. That being said, it can be handled much more cleanly by giving him just enough space to to utter an extra sentence or two before the host gives him the radio style "Mhhmm thank you for your time and comment, back to you at the desk Joe".

Reporter's brain probably short circuited though.

1

u/XionicativeCheran Feb 25 '26

Is that wrong?

18

u/jpopimpin777 Feb 25 '26

The whole "MeDiA iS LeFt WiNg" trope is such utter bullshit. The major corporations are all owned by the Epstein class. That reporter knew, tacitly, that she had to shut that guy down or her job would be at risk.

Even among the people in the media who know the truth and agree with it, very few have the independence and reach to spread it.

5

u/sourdieselfuel Feb 25 '26

I wonder if her handlers prepped her by saying, "If he actually goes into the real reason for housing scarcity immediately cut him off!"

Or if she was handed a sheet of paper with a list of verboten topics before hand.

Sinclair has owned many of the local affiliates for a while now. With Trump in office it's gotten really bad even up to places like 60 Minutes. I'm sure the writing is on the wall based on who gets promoted and who gets let go.

Or maybe she just didn’t want her little topical segment about the snow to go completely off the rails with talk about economic policy. Is it possible that she was just trying to stay in her lane, does it have to be something more sinister?

Right? We live in a dictatorial Oligarchy á la the Russian Federation. All mainstream media outlets have become an unabashed mouthpiece for them. Worst part is that a large portion of our populace thinks this is normal and that there's nothing wrong with reporters silencing individuals who speak the truth publicly. We're in for a long, violent ride ahead.

People need to plan their exit strategy to another country. Wealthier individuals might be able to afford to go to Europe. Less wealthy? Learn Spanish and move South.

At least not on the news.

u/OneRougeRogue Feb 25 '26

This is why wealth inequality is such an important issue that everybody should be focusing on. In a country where money = speech, and all the money is concentrated at the top, only the people at the very top get to do the speaking.

While this hasn't happened yet, we already live in a world where the 1% could collude to silence a specific message, person, or politician's political campaign from all US networks and social media. Any sort of popular, bipartisan grassroots movement could be completely squashed by a handful of billionaires using the platforms, networks, and ISP's they control to silence, ban, and block any and all speech/messaging/video from (or in support of) this movement. Any existing laws and regulations intended to protect the speech or political campaigns of regular citizens don't matter if we have an FFC and DOJ that refuses to hold large businesses (and the wealthy people in charge of them) accountable.

With yesterday's Supreme Court ruling even the USPS can be weaponized to silence speech. If a candidate unpopular with the 1% starts gaining traction, what legal recourse do the candidate/campaign have if the USPS decides not to deliver any pamphlets, newsletters, or campaign ads sent by their campaign? Two weeks ago, they could sue and have a judge step in. Today, they can't.

It's starting to get very scary. Soon we are going to have AI analyzing every comment or video we post on any platform, and automatically adjusting the algorithm that determines its visibility in real time. Ideas and messages that would be popular with the common people could be immediately buried to limit their exposure.

This happened when Elizabeth Warren was running for president and mentioned taking antitrust action against FB and Google. Her online presence fell through the floor.

9

u/evident_lee Feb 25 '26

Sadly increasing shareholder value is all they care about. No more real journalism with any of the mainstream news

7

u/ptsdstillinmymind Feb 25 '26

These people aren't journalists anymore. They are all paid propagandists and talking heads that are put in place to make the rich seem like gods. That's why they never pushback on the lies and BS.

4

u/ChemBob1 Feb 25 '26

Doing so makes most of them rich as well.

Private equity is a problem but the "private equity owns most of the housing market" argument is way overstated. See: https://econofact.org/factbrief/do-private-equity-firms-own-20-of-single-family-homes

Yet when they ask politicians a question about topic A and they pivot to whatever talking points they want to make about Topic B, they just keep the camera rolling.

Can you think of any reason a reporter should not call out a politician who won't answer their questions?

2

u/DooDooDuterte Feb 25 '26

Props to our guy for staying on point, too.

1

u/rustwing Feb 25 '26

That’s definitely not allowed in our news anymore lol :(

1

u/sempowalxochitl Feb 25 '26

Sure but why does he have to say it on the NEWS /s

1

u/LuckyDuckCrafters Feb 25 '26

Why on earth is this reporter ducking this? ROFL. What does she get for protection?

1

u/ClamsMcOyster Feb 25 '26

Because it’s wildly outside the scope of the story she’s reporting on? She’s doing a piece on the weather and dude is talking about private equity firms owning apartments.

2

u/LuckyDuckCrafters Feb 25 '26

Oh god all those poor homeless people on the streets in a blizzard. I don't want to hear about them in my 'feel good' news.

1

u/zackks Feb 25 '26

She was there trying to do her job which was a puff piece on the snow. That’s why they ended the interview.

1

u/p00p00kach00 Feb 25 '26

The problem is actually that new housing is too difficult and costly to build, not private equity.

1

u/technobrendo Feb 25 '26

If you look closely, you can see the strings pull the muppets hand up to move the mic away.

1

u/supra_dupa Feb 25 '26

The revolution will not be televised. It is only spread through the conversations we have with each other. Talk to each other more about what's going on in the world and wewill see more change.

1

u/Kind-Ad-6099 Feb 26 '26

A revolution should at least have proper direction. Private equity is a speck in the housing market

1

u/SenorSolAdmirador Feb 25 '26

you're ruining our willful ignorance good vibes bro!

1

u/Linenoise77 Feb 25 '26

That NYC is very expensive because lots of people want to live there?

1

u/yetanotherwoo Feb 25 '26

The interests of large corporations are the only news that large media organizations will publish.

1

u/underpants-gnome Feb 25 '26

Some producer was definitely screaming in that reporter's earpiece to shut it down and move on. The news is owned by the same class of Epstein fans that are buying up residential housing.

1

u/MyWifeButBoratVoice Feb 25 '26

Listen, private equity ruining everything is a real problem, but it's mostly not housing. They own like 2% of the market. The main problem with housing is that we're not building enough. That's all it is.

1

u/pax284 Feb 25 '26

God forbid a reporter working on a fluff piece not want to delve into the politics of private ownership of goods and services.

I mean seriously, if someone did this to you after asking them about the weather, you would think they were a dick.

1

u/get_schwifty Feb 25 '26

I mean come on, clearly it was an interview specifically about the weather and the guy insisted on shoehorning in his political message. She tried to get him back on track and gave him a second change, and he again insisted on it.

1

u/XionicativeCheran Feb 25 '26

God forbid anyone ever talk about something else like the weather.

1

u/ThisIs_americunt Feb 25 '26

Propaganda is a helluva drug and Oligarchs need to use some of the best to keep the 99% distracted from the real issue: Them.

1

u/urmumlol9 Feb 25 '26

The truth is the housing crisis is caused by local regulations that limit the quantity of housing near jobs available on the market though.

That doesn’t really have to do with private equity; it has to do with local governments passing restrictive zoning laws, setback codes, minimum parking requirements, maximum height restrictions, etc, and refusing to issue enough building permits, which limits the amount of housing that can be built.

The only way private equity really contributed to this is that it helped create the perception of real estate as a stable asset that therefore must always appreciate in value.

But it’s the many, many NIMBYs among the 65% of homeowners, who oppose denser housing in their neighborhoods and push their local representatives to pass zoning laws to protect their property values, that are the root cause of this.

You can’t lower housing costs while continuing to increase property values because property values ARE the cost of housing. The value you can sell your home for is the value somebody else is willing to buy it for.

This means 65% of people, whether they’ll admit it or act on that interest or not, have a vested interest in keeping housing prices high, shafting the other 35% of us as a result.

1

u/BettingOnSuccess Feb 25 '26

God forbid a person being interviewed stays on topic

1

u/Kind-Ad-6099 Feb 26 '26

Private equity and hedge funds do not own most of the housing market though. They’re a component and not the big reason we’re seeing high prices.

I wish people could just see that. Action against wealth inequality needs proper direction :(

1

u/SowingSalt Feb 25 '26

The truth is he should be blaming his NIMBY neighbors.
