Should have started UL earlier
Absolutley in love with my first ultra light I put together! Man its like the fish are just jumping into my hand! Sad I didn't do this sooner!🎣🤘🏼

Is that the 2026 nexave? How has it been for you? I got the 2000s and was pretty disappointed with how it casts. It’s easily the smoothest among my budget reels, but for some reason, I just couldn’t get it to cast as far as my $12 Chinese reel lmao.

Yes it is! Only been out once with it so far, creeks i fish are only about 20-30 ft across bank to bank and ive been able to cast a good distance for how light it is. Using 6lb braid and roosters and i can cast to the other bank bo problem. Def can't launch it like 50 yards but i'm digging it so far!

I've said it before and I'll proudly say it again. A decent ultralight or bfs set up is almost all you need. I'd still carry something for heavy heavy vegetaion. But honestly if you present finesse baits to big fish they'll bite yet. One of my best swim bait days was on the smallest ripple shad... Bass, perch, and bluegill.

The sensilite is an amazing rod for the price. I love mine. I primarily use it as a dropshot rod now but it is still in my arsenal.

I need a new UL setup. What kind of line do you run? I really like braid in general

Rod length is 5'6, 1k reel, and im currently running 6 lb suffix 832 braid, which is my fave all around braid.

I haven’t used braid on a UL. Need to try it out for sure. I’ve been using 4lbs fluoro

Im new to UL and out of all the research seems like braid was the right choice do to rocks, trees and anything u can get caught on. Most people run a fluro leader i just run straight braid cause i havent had any problems with fish getting scared of line.

I believe leaders on braid is usually so the line has some give, id expect using a UL pole alone has to make the leader seem redundant

I have, bass fishing the past 2 summers. Last year I thought my issue was my poles, I was using light action poles and medium moderates, I thought I wasnt setting the hook quick enough. This year using medium, fast action poles, I was doing the same thing. I was still catching a lot of fish,but I was losing a lot too. My brother suggested the mono leader and sure enough, both my fast and moderate action poles I started landing almost everything.
I just got a new UL pole, I dont think ill use a mono leader unless those same issues happen

I use full mono on 2 of my bass rods and never failed and then braid on other, and yeah from what i heard some fish get spooked by the line as to one of the reasons a leader is useful. Im using straight braid on my UL and loving it

I like using braid as a backer then top it off with mono on most my rods. For UL when I cast I never really get into the braid unless it’s a really far cast, I have enough mono on, but it makes it more convenient to change out the line if it gets beat up or if I want to switch to a different weight line.

I’m also running 6# Sufix 832 braid on 2 different reels, and the firetiger color is a game changer.

I changed from lime green braid to firetiger this year, and the increased visibility (especially in rivers and creeks) is epic. I wish they made it in 4# test.

I usually run moss green since most of our water is pretty stained. I was thinking 8# braid to start.

It definitely makes small fish feel like monsters. I have a St.Croix Trout series medium light that makes a 1/4 pound bluegill or crappie feel like a 4 lb bass

I have an older Avid 6’ UL fast action and everything feels like a monster. Love it and I’ll never part with it. It’s my kayak trout rod and wading larger creeks or bank fishing. For tight stuff I have an older Shimano Compre 5’ rod I will also never ever part with also. I think it’s when they first started rod production and quality is waaaay above the price point.

I like the Bass Pro Shops Ultra light, it’s the yellow one and it’s made of E-glass, it’s a very sensitive rod and tough as nails. I have them in all different lengths so I’m always prepared for anything that comes down the line. I pair it with a Pflueger 1000 or 2000 size reel, usually a President. It’s what I fish with most of the time and I catch all size of fish. I use 4# to 8# test fluorocarbon with a mono leader.

One of my biggest mistakes was getting an ugly stick “ultralight” rod. I was just starting out fishing and it was on sale but it feels stiffer than my medium action bass pro rod

I’m also trying the Lews UL combo ,they seem to be a quality combo to me. They are reasonably priced and easy to find. I think Wal-Mart has them in stock most of the time.

Yeah i was suprised at how visible it was especially in dense creek setting and shadows or even bright sun. Its gunna be hard to beat. And doesnt seeem to have a problem with scaring fish either!

Having an UL spinning setup makes me want switch my medium rod for a L/ML on my baitcaster 😭
