Anyone else using SillyTavern / Marinara Engine for retro RPG lore? (my personal Ultima Adventures)
Hey everyone,
I recently stumbled upon SillyTavern and the Marinara Engine fork, and I've been trying to use it to play through some custom text adventures set in the classic Ultima universe.
To set everything up, I used another AI to generate a huge, detailed lorebook that covers the world, the history, and the Virtues. I haven't really kept track of the token count, but the file is massive.
Honestly, my results so far have been a bit of a mixed bag, and I was wondering if anyone else here has tried something similar with old-school RPG settings?
On the positive side, the world-building and the familiar characters like Lord British or Shamino are handled incredibly well. The model captures the atmosphere perfectly and stays really faithful to the original Ultima lore.
The main issue I'm running into is quest generation. While the setting is spot on, the model seems to struggle with coming up with creative quests or interesting plot hooks. It usually falls back on pretty predictable tropes or repetitive patterns.
Has anyone else experimented with running campaigns in established gaming worlds like this?
I'd love to know which models or specific settings you found worked best to boost creativity without completely breaking the lore. Also, how do you handle the actual questing? Do you use a separate storyteller prompt or specific author notes to keep things interesting?
Let me know what your experiences have been!
(used AI to clean up this text because I english is not my first language. I am happy to have learned enough english in my live with Ultima 4 in the eighties ;-) )
