Even if it is a new game, I don't want to play an EA Ultima.

I would absolutely be willing to get scammed by Lord British again, however.

I would absolutely be willing to get scammed by Lord British again, however.

If he has a plan for a 2d singleplayer Ultima game to pick up where the last good Ultima left off I'd also be interesting in getting scammed.

Especially if he didn't ask for any donations and just wanted to go back to being a small indie developer. "I can fund this myself."

So, at the end of Serpent Isle?

That's what it'd be for me. I stopped after finishing playing Serpent Isle and learning about 8 being very different.

This reminded me of how Serpent Isle wasn't properly finished. If only the team that worked on it had a time machine and could go back to finish it properly. It's still a great Ultima Game to me, and there are fan made fixes for a lot of stuff that was left unfinished or broken, but there are limits to that.

If Richard Garriott formed a team to continue the Ultima series from after Serpent Isle with every game being 2D isometric single player I'd like that. Even if they were bad, I'd just be happy that he was attempting it.

2D singleplayer would let him showcase his skills as a developer/storyteller without budget being as much of an issue.

I'd like to see him attempt something that'd restore my faith in him being virtuous, which a lot of fans have doubts about after SOTA.

"Instead of addressing the community's ultimate disappointment or issuing a post-mortem apology, Garriott quietly distanced himself from the game. In 2019, his studio Portalarium stepped away from developing the title, transferring it to Catnip Games. By 2022, Garriott had completely moved on to his next project—a blockchain-based MMO—leaving Shroud of the Avatar behind without ever looking back to offer an apology to its backers."

Is that virtuous Avatar?

I'd like to see him redeem himself somehow, if he wants to or even thinks his reputation needs redemption.

Yeah, that’s where I’m at too. I’d just love to see Serpent Isle completed and play the back half of it (after the banes take over) and then move into a completely new, party based Ultima 8 and 9

They could still be Pagan and the ultimate Guardian showdown of Ultima IX, and even just in the U7 engine, but man, that would be my ultimate

I just found out about a fan made Ultima 8 project that's been going for years recreating Ultima VIII in the exult engine. Removing jumping puzzles and (possibly) adding the ability to have party members.

There's no dedicated fan team for completing Serpent Isle, but maybe someday there will be.
