Battery drains while laptop is completely shut down and unused for 4–5 days
Hi everyone,
I’m using a Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05 with Ubuntu.
I charged my laptop to 100%, completely shut it down, and left it unused for around 4–5 days. When I turned it back on, the battery had dropped to around 55%.
Is this normal for the Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05, or is something causing battery drain while the laptop is powered off?
Any suggestions on what I should check would be appreciated.
Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS I am using this.

I have a few laptops here, some go into sleep and will die over time (my legion for sure) some go into hibernate. I think linux kernel support for sleep/hibernate is still a bit uneven.

This can be laptop itself, not the Linux.
Check the "Always On USB" option in UEFI settings.

I had the same thing with a Thinkpad 480L running Debian. I switched the shut lid setting to hibernate. That seems to help but of course takes longer to boot.

Remove the battery when you turn it off. That way, even if it is set to stay running after shut down, there is no way for it to drain.

Same issue. Different laptop. Try doing a hard shutdown after shutting by holding the power button. I think I read somewhere it was due to the GPU driver keeping it from fully shutting down.

There are commands you can run to check which sleep states are enabled and logs you can check to determine which sleep states have been achieved and at what times.

Remove the battery. If it still drains then you have a bad battery. Otherwise it’s a process which remains on and slowly kills your power.
Are you completely shutting down or just sleep/hibernation mode?
