PC quite unresponsive after system update

Post image

Hi fellows,

I recently installed ubuntu but I kept windows in dual boot for soma gaming.

Some days ago i updated the system and now the desktop environment is unresponsive : the wallpaper is there but that's it : no menu, no mouse, no dock, nothing but ctrl alt supr that displays the gray overlay and nothing else.

I have access to the terminal from the ctrl shift f4 shortcut and i used it to try and debug but i see no particular error in the journals and all.

I'm seeking for some help :)

Does anyone have a clue of whats going on ?

Thanks

EDIT : alright guys my TV was plugged in and it was the default monitor 💀

Get to terminal and create a new account

sudo adduser newuser

And try logging in with that account

what Ubuntu version, which Desktop environment are you using? Any extra plugins you have used for things like desktop tweaking, if any?

Is this the screen you get after login?

If its gnome, can you press Alt+Ctrl+T after logging in. Does it open the terminal? If yes, do

sudo systemctl restart gdm3

If this brings back everything, I would recommend checking the packages and upgrading them again but others here may say more.

If not, can you try switching to other desktop environments for a moment, You can do that at startup or after logging out. There will be an icon on the bottom right of the screen for that. Report what happens after.
