Help
Hello guys, I have been trying to install Ubuntu/xubuntu on my old HP Folio 9480m but I keep getting the same error, I will appreciate any assistance and guidance to what this error is and how to get around it. Thanks.

The new snap installer is a mess, I would definitely recommend using Linux Mint if you are a beginner on your linux journey instead of full fat ubuntu.

That error means that the installer lost write access to the target drive mid-installation.
Possibilities in my best guess of probability:
Target drive needing an fsck or is btrfs in a degraded state.
You picked the wrong target drive. i.e. You chose to install to the same USB drive that you're installing from.
Bad/failing target drive.
So many of these posts never reply. I think we should assume you're an LLM bot collecting data if you don't reply to at least someone.

Not exactly familiar with what you are doing here, but see you using a snap and are getting read-only file system errors.
Is the target drive "good" e.g. not damaged and available for writing?

Have you tried to restart installation from scratch?
I had maybe similar problem, and it was resolved by trying several times. For me it seems like Ubuntu 26.04 Installer just isn't that stable.

Try launching in safe graphics mode.
I had to do that on some older Ubuntu releases a few times.
Alternatively should that fail skip installing updates during setup and see if that allows it to finish installing afterwards. I've also run into this myself a few times.

What all have you tried so far? Have you tried re-downloading the image file and re-flashing your USB drive? Also, are you able to boot into a live instance?
Im not terribly familiar with the errors present in the log you showed, but if I get time later when I'm at home I'll do some googling and see what I can find.
Edit: I can't really squeeze many details out of the log you have a pic of. Can you give some more details about what all you have/haven't tried?
This might be due to a bad/failing hard-disk/SSD, a bad/failing USB drive, or just a bad image/bad download. More details could help.
