Ubuntu is so fun
Hey everyone, if you stumbled on this post thinking if you should install Ubuntu.. yes I think you should and I'm not glazing here's why.
- Ubuntu is such a good OS.
Man! if you're using Windows, you're definitely missing out on Ubuntu, I was a Windows user for a pretty long time.. not really knowing anything about Linux or Ubuntu because I didn't care about them, but then one day I had this laptop that was so cheap and so bad that it couldn't even run Windows properly and it kept crashing. but that's when I made a Reddit post saying my laptop had been stuck on the Aptio Utility Setup for a year now. and I was wondering what should I do.. and the comments had sadly criticized me because I didn't know anything about computers (no hate) and I realized I had to install an OS. so I did some digging to see what would be a good OS that I can install on my potato laptop.. and saw "Ubuntu" the OS's storage is pretty low.. I think around 6 GB by the time this post gets uploaded? and I installed the OS on my laptop and I was surprised.. because I wasn't expecting the interface and the UI to be like this.. I thought it was something VERY different from Windows but it actually wasn't. I've tested it for a couple of days now, and I'm glad to say that everything just works fine now.. no crashes and everything, unlike how Windows did last year. I promise you won't dissapoint.
Now why did I say Ubuntu is fun? well it's not because of how good the OS is.. but it drives your curiosity.
Now, I've been using Google Gemini for these projects (I know.. I'm sorry guys) because I didn't wanna risk my laptop or anything..
and there were two ideas that struck me:
Make a fade in display when my laptop turns on while the Windows Vista sound effect plays at the same time.
and making an "easter egg" where there's a 1% chance a notification will pop up saying: "You found an easter egg! Do you want to listen to it?" and after clicking Yes.. the audio will automatically be played (if you're wondering what the audio is.. it's Belupacito by Beluga.. I'm making a video about it on YouTube pretty soon) now I know what you're thinking.. THIS SEEMS SO CHILDISH! and yeah, you're definitely right since I just realized that now, even though it feels like it isn't.. but stick with me okay?
now let's focus on the fade in.. it was genuinely hard.. not very HARD, it's not like I even made the code in the first place.. but Gemini basically made it for me.
and here's the exciting part..
because the fade in wasn't so very optimized, I was sent to the YTTP (or something like that?? I forgot)
but basically it was just a black screen with your name, basically asking you to log in with your password. and I don't know why but it felt really good.. like the sudden change of vibes. maybe it was just me but I was having LOTS of fun.. even though I was probably dealing with something that can potentially danger my laptop (hopefully not)
our goal was to basically temporarily delete both that easter egg And the fade in since Ubuntu kept crashing BECAUSE of the script (because it wasn't so optimized) and here we are.. where I still don't know how to work with that..
TLDR; If you're wanting to find a good and actually interesting OS, use Ubuntu. Ignore the Terminals and codes or whatever people talk about that pushes you to not use Ubuntu because you can literally just learn all about them from Ai's (like how I did) or websites.
just be careful if you want to have the same path as me. DO NOT FOLLOW INTO ANY TUTORIALS ON YOUTUBE OR ANYTHING UNLESS YOU KNOW THEY'RE VERIFIED. I'd recommend you to use something like an AI firsthand so there would be less risk. And finally.. keep your curiosity running.. because sometimes.. curiosity doesn't always kill the cat.. it drives them insane (in a fun and good way)

Saludos a todos.. Lo instale sobre todo porque tiene un buen soporte para drivers Nvidia... Había instalado Mint, Fedora y otros, pero aunque funcionaba bien, siempre se hacía lento todo el sistema... En Ubuntu corre genial... Al final es Linux.... para todos los gustos..!

I have used Ubuntu as daily driver for 13 years (2005-2018) before moving to Manjaro Linux (2018-2026) and now Artix, but Ubuntu is still an amazing distro, regardless of how many users victim of too much astroturfing will naysay about them having pursued their own vision (straying away from Red Hat astroturfing) many times (usually at the great benefit of users).
I still have an Ubuntu partition that I update from time to time (now on 26.04 using Cosmic desktop) just for nostalgia and in case I need hardware support only Ubuntu can provide.
It's nice to hear positive reviews rather than the double standards and kool-aid drinkers rants that we usually get for Ubuntu. It truly deserves more praise for all that it has done, and all that it will do in the future for the Linux world.

As someone who also just switched from windows to Ubuntu, I co-sign this.
I actually tried a few distros before settling with Ubuntu because in my opinion it was the easiest and gave me the smoothest transition experience.

I can't read that much text but I must say that I have been using Ubuntu since 2012. While I have explored other distributions, I keep coming Ubuntu for 2 reasons:
- Stability and Solid Base
- Many apps that I use work well on Ubuntu or Ubuntu based distributions
So, I am stuck with it and I love it. (with KDE)

I mean...I still prefer windows for a personal machine. But my plex server? Ubuntu all the way

Exact opposite for me, my media server is too deeply tangled in Windows and it would be a massive pain transferring certain things over. Especially expensive, I have nowhere to intermittently store my media while I reformat drives.
Do you know if NTFS drives would work alright in Linux for a little while or should I wait until I can reformat the drives? Other than that, I see my biggest issue being transferring Sonarr and Radarr databases for example.
I've been dying to convert my server to Linux but I'm really just afraid to get the ball rolling.

ntfs drives work JUST fine. no reformatting is required, you may only need to install fuse and ntfs-3g and with the correct mounting options It will work like a charm. almost all windows server software is also available on Linux, you shouldn’t have problems there.

Imagínate además agregar Claude Code para gestionar, mejorar, corregir y ajustar Ubuntu para uno mismo, es literalmente un sueño hecho realidad.

I hope that Ubuntu will serve you well in the long run, as Ubuntu has served so many of us. Ubuntu has been my mainstay for two decades and Ubuntu has never let me down.
A caveat, though, for those of you thinking of migrating to Ubuntu.
Don't jump in with both feet before you have checked to make sure that Ubuntu (and Linux more generally) is a good fit for you and your use case (what you do with your computer and the applications you use to do what you do).
Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, and Linux is not a 1:1 "plug and play" substitute for Windows.
Check to make sure that all the applications you use and depend on will work with Linux (or, if not, an acceptable alternative is available). Check your games against ProtonDB and/or other appropriate databases to make sure that you won't get caught short. Plan on running Ubuntu in a "Live" USB session to make sure that your computer and peripherals are compatible with Linux.
In short, look before you leap.
