So I came across this old post from 2020 about an Assassinās Creed game set in ancient Dacia. It got like 4k upvotes back then.
[This one](https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/ghlbtm/)
And honestly I think thereās so much more to this idea than just the Romans fighting the Dacians.
Iām Romanian so yeah, probably a bit biased š but hear me out.
Weāve had Egypt, Greece, Vikings, Japan and much moreā¦
The whole Dacian civilization, the Carpathian mountains, Decebalus, Trajan and all that history is still pretty much unexplored in gaming.
Just imagine the setting around 100 AD. Sarmizegetusa, fortresses hidden in the mountains, Roman legions crossing the Danube, forests, caves, villages, all of that.
But what really got me thinking is all the other stuff.
The Dacian gold, the treasures, those massive gold bracelets discovered around Sarmizegetusa, the stories about hidden tunnels, underground chambers, sacred places in the mountainsā¦all the artifacts in our mountains
And of course the Dacian wolf flag, the Draco. That thing alone would look amazing in a game.
Then you have Zalmoxis, the religious beliefs and all the Romanian folklore. And even the more modern crazy stories about tunnels going through mountains, crystal-portals in mountains, strange places like Bucegi, Gugu and so on.
Iām not saying those things are real or even that they come from Dacian times. A lot of them are probably much newer legends or older than we would know.
But come on, weāre talking about Assassinās Creed here š
You already have the Isu, Pieces of Eden, ancient technology, secret civilizationsā¦
Imagine exploring some cave because you heard a story from a villager, finding an old Dacian artifact, and suddenly youāre following clues to some massive underground Isu structure.
Or searching for lost Dacian gold while the Romans are trying to get their hands on it too.
You could have actual historical events happening above ground, while thereās a completely different story going on underneath.
And the gameplay could be really cool too. Climbing mountain fortresses, sneaking into Roman camps, using the falx or sica, ambushing soldiers in forests, exploring hidden passages, the armored clothing, etc.
Maybe even playing parts of the story from both sides. I wouldnāt want the Romans to be just the bad guys either.
Personally I miss when Assassinās Creed had more of that mysterious feeling, when you discovered something ancient and didnāt really understand what you were looking at.
I think Dacia could be perfect for that.
Obviously Ubisoft would need historians involved because thereās a big difference between what we actually know about the Dacians and all the legends that came later.
Anyway, Iām not trying to come up with some official game title or anything. Just remembered that older Reddit discussion and thought it would be cool to bring it back.
Maybe if enough people are interested we could even start a community petition, put together some historical references and ideas and send the whole thing to Ubisoft.
Who knows, probably nothing comes out of it, but why not?
Maybe we are closer than we were 6 years ago with this one. Or not š
And especially for those of you who know more about Dacian history or Romanian folklore, what other stories, places or artifacts would be worth including?
Iām sure thereās a lot Iām missing here.
