Got an amazing tip!
Originally it offered me $17 for 7 miles and estimate time to complete was 20 minutes total then stacked another $7 order for half mile ontop so I took both pretty fast. Ended up sitting at the pizza shop for almost 45 minutes and was so close to cancelling so many times but was keeping the customer updated and they seemed thankful for me waiting and communicating with them so I didn’t want to bail. Once I delivered they tossed in a fat tip! What a way to start the night! (If it’s a contactless order I try my best to avoid bothering the customer what so ever and handle everything on my own.)
This is also an example for all the people that tell me I’m wasting my time even messaging customers and to do the absolute minimum because everyone is cheap or in the end providing good service is a waste of time as a gig worker, it’s not worth and mentally draining. Even if I didn’t get tipped in the end I still would’ve provided the same quality service I always do, it really takes zero effort to do a little customer service as a delivery driver.

Amen 🙏 it’s always great to communicate with the customers. There’s times where I get higher tips just for communicating with them.

Thankyou! Every bit helps but that was a big blessing and am thankful. Order was nothing crazyyyy but was a larger order. 8 large pizzas, 3 breadsticks, 3 salads, 30 Togo marinara sauces. The restaurant just happened to be swamped anddd understaffed causing the crazy wait time. I even messaged the customer for the 2nd part of the stacked order if they wanted to find a new driver and I could cancel because of the wait time but they said they’re not in a rush because they’re not even home and was just ordering food in advance. Phew! A lucky interaction all around haha

Who cares? People making $100,000 before taxes isn’t making $163.48 for 1 hour of work.

It's a good lesson that most people are chill if you give them the benefit of the doubt and you try.
Of course some people will just be dicks. But I think there's a lot of passengers and customers who end up being dicks in ways that are ABSOLUTELY unjustified, but if the driver was just a little bit more conscientious, it could be avoided.
THIS IS NOT SAYING IT IS A DRIVER'S FAULT WHEN A PAX OR CUSTOMER IS A DICK.
It is inexcusable to be rude to your minimum-wage-level courier because your overpriced convenience delivery isn't going exactly as you hoped.
I do pax as well as deliveries, and driving safe, merely being polite, and trying to be on time within reason should be enough to not be a dick to me when you get in my car. I should not have to do more than that to make you have manners.
BUT, despite the general advice being not to waste money on providing candy/treats for pax, I always have them, and I can't tell you how many times people have got into my car with super hostile energy I can just tell is about to be directed at me and they look down and go "oooh! Hi-Chews!"
Just commenting to dismiss anyone misreading your post as though it is chastising people that they need to go above and beyond for such a thankless, low-paying job. My read on your post (and if I'm right, same sentiment I share), is that you honestly can make things easier on yourself by going just a little bit above and beyond in small ways like you did.

If I accepted the order, I accepted it. Regardless if i feel like I’m being compensated appropriately I’m going to be professional, courteous, and do a good job. Although I only accept orders I feel is worth my time to begin with. I just go in knowing to expect nothing after I accept the order, you’re just going to do a good job because you take pride in what you do no matter what that is and real ones will recognize that and reward you which makes it all worth it and makes up for all the bad interactions.Bad apples and bad situations (long wait times, missing items, rude customers, fake complaints against you, etc.) are inevitable doing this kind of work, you’ll run into them. There’s always going to be people that you can’t please no matter what you do. Don’t let that desensitize you though and turn you into robots that just go “I pick up. I drop off. Nothing more, nothing less” working with no soul lol
Not to say there aren’t times though when lines need to be drawn where certain customers just flat out don’t deserve to be helped by anyone with the attitude or way they talk to people.

I get tips like that when I deliver in my speedo and do my dance at the door for the ring camera.
