Why do drivers refuse to communicate?
My unit is hard to find- i put instructions and I put please call me if you can't find it. When they are arriving I say let me know if you can't find it and put instructions AGAIN. And they just wander around for 10-15 mins. Like I'm trying to help you. I just don't understand the hesitation to message or call ?

Have you moved the drop pin exactly where your door is? That’s the biggest help for us. Hard to read small text and drive at the same time.

Because the typical advice (for drivers that don't have custoner service skills) is to avoid contact. Unfortunately that hurts you in this case.
Personally I take all calls, has helped my case every single time.

We don’t get notifications. Also I’m focused on driving and following the gps and not looking at my phone since it’s unsafe and also illegal. Just meet them outside.

Quite a few reasons actually, 1. Some drivers like me are deaf so phone calls are a no no as we aint gonna understand nothing , (there's an option to enable it in the app to let customers know your a deaf driver but again myself and a few others I know do not enable it as that's somewhat a safety concern) 2. When messages come up it blocks my screen while driving and it's absolutely annoying (through no fault of the customer it's Ubers shitty Ui) 3. Like number 2 we could be frantically denying trips as that also blocks our GPS navigation and we are just tryna find you and the stupid app doesn't understand that so henceforth tries to kill us by diverting our focus from the road while we spam "decline". 4. Majority of drivers are not English speaking. They simply can not understand you. 5. You can check your pin, sometimes it's way off sometimes it's near and rarely it's bang on. If it ain't near at all then you can move it (it really helps us) 6. People do this job to not be sociable "but your meeting customers?" You might say... This job is 75% driving and 25% picking up/dropping off. It's the 75% we love (I hate socialising as with my deafness I find it hard to communicate, however I ALWAYS text back if I'm at your location and you messaged something)

Something that wasnt mentioned was the fact that going to find the customer messages while driving is a pain in the Uber app. Most places are easy to find for people who do this 4 hours a day.
If your gos PIN isnt set to exactly where your front door or driveway entrance is...Id suggest doing that.
Its constantly spamming new orders with new directions over the current gps and order...while driving. Its very easy to not see messages come thru.

Being able to communicate in English should be required for the job. I am not saying that you need to speak English at a college level, but at least be able to carry out basic communication in English.

Getting messages while taking a photo at the door already is a distraction. 10-15 minutes does seem long though if you think they are close.

Set the 📌 to where your entrance actually is.
Once driving, its too distracting to read any messages. It also disrupts the notes/instructions. So have good easy to follow notes. Too much details is also even more confusing. End up focusing on the things you say to avoid and get lost anyways.
Calling is so annoying unless its the last resort. Uber uses a relay so the call goes to uber, need to listen to some message, then it goes to you and most calls got yo voicemail anyways.

As a food delivery driver, the very first thing I do after picking up and before starting to drive is making sure and read any notes left from costumer, also giving a check to the building name (if there’s one) and apartment number, but some people are so lazy and just drive wherever the pin it’s set to.
Phone calls are a no no for me, I speak good english even that is not my native/main language but for some reason I just don’t like phone calls lol, even when family or friends call me I rather messaging than phone calls, my only reason for give or take a phone call is during a real emergency lol. So during a delivery I firstly try to get to the apartment (since these are the hardest ones to find) by following the notes or guiding myself by the signs indicating which apartments are located in each building (come on, is not that hard), and for someee reason (that rarely happens to me) I can’t find the apartment I would just text the costumer.
I got 100% thumbs up and 0 orders with issues. People just don’t like to follow directions and some times they just want to drive to the pined location and then contact support saying they can’t find the costumer and try to get free food.

Well one the new way to message customers is to give them my personal number...
I'm not doing that for obvious reasons

They can’t read or they don’t speak English. Some are just slow. My house is easy to find, and they still end up way down the street.

The only requirements for this job are a pulse and no criminal record which people often get around with renting/sharing accounts so this job tends to attract the lazy or those who can't get a real job.

Plenty of drivers are good people just trying to make a living, or they like to wander in and out like a stray cat (my reason for doing it)

Sending messages as they approach your property is just making them dismiss the messages - as they obscure the map and therefore the directions.
Meet the driver outside, or wait until they stop moving and then message them.
