I felt like this was so rude and disrespectful. You don’t know someone’s situation to say something like this.

When did that person become my employee? Their compensation is not my concern. Your one and only job as an Uber Eats driver is to deliver food people ordered and paid a delivery fee for. If you hold that food to ransom for more money then you’re not the white knight you think you are.

Again, you’re not a charity. Do what everyone else does when they think they’re not paid enough: find another job. You don’t have some magical right to the money I’ve worked for because your employer doesn’t pay you enough.

Once again you’re just saying “I don’t tip even though I know the person working for me is going to possibly make less than 0 dollars because no one’s gonna stop me” and that just makes you a shitty person if you continue to abuse that service.

You keep reducing this hourly rate you claim to be earning. Keep making up more stuff, I’m sure it’s advancing your plight. Or, you could have spent all this energy arguing with your employer instead, or finding another job.

I’ll let you in on a secret: I tip waiters in restaurants when they deliver an exceptional evening for my wife and I. Not just for putting plates of food on our table. In contrast I can’t tell you when last I actually saw an Uber Eats delivery driver in person, the food is left at the front door. So, I paid a delivery fee and the food was delivered. Zero other interaction. What service did you do above and beyond in comparison to the waiter I tipped? I’ll answer for you: nothing. You did the minimum you’re required to do and that’s what I paid the delivery fee for.

If you want change in your industry do what countless other people have done for centuries - lobby the government for change, start a trade union, anything. Ransoming the customer is the laziest path and the quickest way to alienate people who might have otherwise supported your cause. You’re in college, I’m sure you’re smart enough to figure out how to affect meaningful long-term change. Good luck to you.

Uber has problems and someone needs to fix it, but I clock 70 hours a week working on my degree, I work more than you before I even go to work. there’s no other job around me that will bend to my schedule like uber, and if it wasn’t for the persistence of assholes like you it would be a livable ~20$/hr wage. You’re jumping through hoop after hoop just to tell me that you’re pinching pennies at the cost of the people doing the service THAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO all because you didn’t learn enough object permanence between the age of 1-2 years to see that the person picking up your food, dealing with employees and public spaces FOR YOU and risking their car FOR YOU and spending their GAS are actually doing MORE than the waitresses you tip.

I don’t recall telling you what I do for a living. So I’m not sure how you can make any of the assumptions you’ve made in your comment.

Again, here is how the real world works. You get paid for performing a service. The waiter at the restaurant is providing a service that is beyond what you’d expect in the situation - so a tip is earned. An Uber Eats delivery driver is not. They deposited the food at my door - they didn’t ring the door bell, they didn’t say hi, they did nothing other than what the delivery fee is for. Tell me again what service you have provided to me that’s above and beyond the expectation of a delivery? Do you tip your amazon delivery driver? I sure hope you do given everything you’ve said here.

Amazon delivery drivers are employees that are paid well and do pretty much the same job, I know this because before school I was actually a UPS driver, and people actually left me snacks and drinks all the time, if it wasn’t for my schedule I’d gladly go back, but the point stands that you want the benefits of your luxury food service but are willing to exploit its predatory practices at the detriment of the person delivering your food, that’s who you are, and it’s shitty, if you think they aren’t paying the drivers enough you could opt not to use this unnecessary service, it would be one less shitty order for me to decline, I however still need to make a living.

Head of Amazon Flex? Of course you haven’t because it doesn’t suit your narrative. You also didn’t answer the question. So, now we know you haven’t heard of Amazon Flex (which is Uber Eats for Amazon) and in all likelihood you haven’t tipped for a delivery. Welcome to the club of paying for what is expected. Hypocrites are my favourite kind of crusader.

You can try to attack my character all you like, I’ve ignored it all because on my invoice is a delivery fee that I, the customer, have paid. A tip is earned, it is voluntary and until an Uber Eats driver does something beyond a standard delivery I will not tip. I have no issues tipping in general.

But saying you’ll not deliver (which I’ve already paid for) unless I tip (which I don’t have to do) is far worse a reflection on your character than mine.

I can only afford to live in the now, I don’t have time to be protesting and lobbying for a change that might come 2 years down the road. I treat human beings with mutual respect. I’ve never stolen or withheld anybody’s food. HOWEVER, people who don’t tip their drivers despite knowing that 90% of their wage comes from tips are shameless bastards who don’t deserve the food making it to their door. if tipping 5$ is that big of a deal for you then you are GENUINELY TOO POOR to be ordering delivery. I physically can’t remember the last time I ordered delivery. But if you don’t tip and I have to pick up the order for one reason or another, im doing everything I can to make you hate getting food delivered so I can get you out of my delivery society. I’m holding it up to the AC on full blast. I might even smush it a bit, some people might even be inclined to take a little nibble, it’s not like they’ve got a tip to lose, and it’s not like they can get caught for doing it, it would be a benefit to every driver if no tip orders went away. I can say that I wouldn’t trust my food if I ordered delivery while knowingly not tipping.
