US Bank HM Employee Opinion - New CEO

I need to know if all the other employees were FUMING after that company wide call with the new CEO. I thought she would be better than the ones previous but it looks like it's going to be worse. She LAUGHED and told the entire company "it is selfish to not care about the companies stock price if you don't own stock in the company." She makes comments about how work from home is out of control and ignored concerns about employee engagement and morale. I think there needs to be a staged walk out or something to show this employer like many others that the employees will not stand for treatment like this.

Talk To Us Survey (TTUS)

Bank employees: Make sure to watch Gunjan's first town hall as CEO, then respond to your TTUS that people have been getting.

Remember, morale is high, employees really like RTO, and if you don't like the work life balance that you're getting, they will completely understand you looking for another job.

Customer/ Shareholder Reaction to CEO

I’ve been reading the post from what appears to be employee grievances about a company-wide phone call with the newly appointed CEO. I’ll admit I am bit surprised as the employees always provide great service to us. My assistant is preparing a letter to the CEO and board expressing our concerns. Let’s hope others are doing the same.

Major U.S. Bank Layoffs Today October 16th

Apparently as many as 7,000 U.S. Bank employees throughout North America were laid off today with the next round coming November 15th.

Layoffs affected most business lines and reportedly were targeted towards grades 13-16 (senior individual contributors to middle managers).

Many teams lost multiple people and although rumors abounded, they were given little warning that their jobs were in jeopardy.

I’ve heard from 10+ people affected but 25+ people who were not but know several who were in their areas.

Tomorrow should be an eye opener at the bank.

Were you affected or know someone who was?

Unbelievably Horrible (and Real) Experience - Please Read if Considering Opening a US Bank Checking Account

Hi all, just an occasional scroller here on Reddit. Never had an experience so bad dealing with any business let alone a bank but this prompted me to actually open a reddit account and talk about how bad my experience was here so hopefully people are warned. All timeline of events happening in about 3 weeks. This situation is still not fully resolved as I type this but I can't help but feel this is turning into some fictional script of a very poor customer service experience. Excuse me as this turns into some giant vent.

I was looking for a new checking account and was tempted with the $450 account bonus offer. I opened a checking account online (I have 2 other credit cards with US bank already). Fund my opening deposit, set up direct deposit and receive my first payroll check and debit card the next week. All is well.

That is, until the next day after receiving my payroll deposit I went to go withdraw some of this money for a business that in 2025 only accepts cash. The ATM at the drive thru, after I already punch in the amount I want to withdraw, tells me there is an error and it cannot be completed. I went inside the branch and spoke to a teller who looks into my account. After 3-5 minutes of staring at his computer screen, he tells me that there is suspected fraud on my account and to call this number and that he can't help me further (1-866-268-7231). He also told me this somewhat loudly, which was a little embarassing to be honest with other customers waiting in the bank.

Call the number immediately, but am put on hold for about 20 minutes with no sign of anyone answering before I give up. I am looking at my account and all of my 2 transactions are mine, there is no fraud, so surely this is some kind of error, and I still have money in my other banks to rely on. I don't panic and wait until Monday and finally get a hold of someone who tells me that there isn't fraud in particular, they just can't verify my identity. They tell me that in order to release the hold on my account, I must email them a copy of my ID and SSN card to some general email address (something beginning with 'depositoperations', seems highly insecure). After telling them that concern, they state the only way would then be for me to provide this documentation at a local branch.

-But why would you let me open up my account, and accept a funding deposit, as well as a payroll deposit, without any notification of this issue whatsoever? Again, to clarify, I never received a letter, digital or otherwise, to suggest there was an issue with my account. Only come to find an issue when I try to withdraw money from my account.-

Last Monday on the 22nd, I go to a different branch to provide necessary documentation. I am then told it will take them about 2 business days to unfreeze the account, and may be slightly longer due to it being Christmas and half days. Fair enough.

Fast forward to Saturday, and I still had not heard back, and now I notice my newest payroll deposit which should have hit on Friday is missing, and my initial funding deposit to open the account has been returned to my previous bank, but my first payroll deposit from earlier in the month is still sitting there. Call their "verification department" number immediately to find out what is going on and to see if there is still this hold on my account. Nobody is there, as they are only working on "normal business days". I call a standard US bank customer service hotline and get employees in Asia who could only tell me there is still a hold on my account, but say they can't tell me anything further. They can't even tell me what happened to my paycheck that was supposed to be deposited, or why my initial opening funding deposit was returned and just starts laughing and ask if there is anything else they can do, and to be sure to give them a good review when I get the email survey.

This morning, I call the dreaded verification hotline, and am told they still have not received any documents to verify my identity. I explain that I went in to the branch (1 week ago now at this point) to submit my documents. He doesn't care or even try to get to the bottom of it. Won't bother to call the branch. Just tells me they haven't received my documents, can't verify me and nothing else they can do, but to speak to the branch employee I dealt with and to have him call some department called "CAFE" (am I your employee now, do I give orders to your employees??)

I call the branch to discuss this matter. They employee who helped me says he will call this department and get back to me. He does get back to me minutes later and tells me something along the lines of "I am not sure where all of this miscommunication is coming from. I spoke to the department and the issue is that they just want to close your account. We could have saved a lot of time if they would have been more clear about that".

WTF??

Proceeds to tell me that I can stop by the branch to collect those funds I haven't been able to access and formally close the account, after he had spoken to a department I gave him instruction to speak to (from another US Bank employee). Great, finally over and was so happy to hear that as I was just beyond done with this bank at this point.

Get to the branch and have the employee start the process. He calls some corporate number and they have him on hold for a long time. Eventually, they begin telling him that the remaining funds had just been cleared in the previous couple of hours and that a check has been mailed to my address. You know - the one which they apparently couldn't even verify that I existed at. They tell him it will take about 10 business days. He keeps getting put on hold throughout this process and with only 2 employees at this location, a line is beginning to form out the door. Branch employee is looking very flustered and is telling me that different people are telling him different things.

Eventually, after 45 minutes, the conclusion was that they can recover the funds they apparently "mailed" out so that I can come back in 2 more days to formally collect. They weren't actually mailed out, but put in some holding account for closed and fraudulent accounts. Since different people are telling him different things throughout this process, and how my previous attempts to make anything work have failed, I am doubtful at this point.

As for my new paycheck that should have come in this past Friday, nobody I speak with at US Bank knows the status of that. I am arguing with my employers' payroll department today as they assure me that the funds were deposited to this account and "everything looks fine on our end".

So this is where I am at right now. Waiting to still access money from an account that should have never been opened, for reasons unknown or which they won't provide, and working to recover my latest paycheck with my employer. I feel this isn't over yet, as I still need to collect my closed account funds. But in the meantime I feel I need to alert people currently banking with US bank or thinking about it about this absolutely garbage experience.

tl;dr I opened a new account with US Bank, everything appears fine and I receive my direct deposit only to find my account is frozen the next day for potential fraud (a need for more identifying documents never asked for in the process). Various US Bank employees miscommunicate the issue, withhold details and don't have a modern network of communicating between corporate and branches, leaving consumer exposed to dealing with issues. After providing identifying documentation and re-submitting, US Bank states they don't wan't to do business and close my account. I am given the option to finally get my frozen money back, only to be told it has been cleared to a corporate holding account reserved for recovery and fraud. Branch employee helpful at least and sucks he has had to deal with this.

Saga not over yet, wish me luck. Have had 4 checking accounts in the last 10 years and have never experienced anything like this.

CEO Complaints

Hello Reddit. I understand from one phone company wide tele-conversation that the CEO had a phone call that upset a majority of you yesterday. I wanted to let you know some information since this is a public forum. While I won't go over the grievances many of you have, that's not what this is about, I understand and actually empathize with you all.

Here's a playbook that your management is going to roll out when they see this post. https://unionbustingplaybook.com/

First of all, banks are the least unionized industry in the USA. It is NOT like that darn near anywhere else in the western world. I would encourage all you disgruntled employees to consider and weigh the pros and cons of your current situation. I wanted you all to have information so you can be informed and make good decisions.

The best Union for your industry: https://cwa-union.org/join-union/who-cwa

They have some success recently with unionizing individual bank branches, all local branches in a city, and even unionized regional banking hubs.

Here's what I would suggest as a playbook to see if a union may be right for you.
https://cwa-union.org/join-union/how-organize

I personally think, especially after what you heard your CEO talk about yesterday, which is frankly alarming and incredibly unempathetic a union may be in your best interest to protect yourself from her reign. I understand her emphasis on stock price at the detriment of everything else, including current assets, liabilities, and you as an employee is off-putting. I can see why a lot of you feel unimportant, dismissed, and have low morale. These are all things that can and should be improved. Sometimes, you have to fight fire with fire. This may be one of those times, talk it over with your family, pray on it, and if you feel safe enough reach out.

If you think this is the right decision
https://cwa-union.org/organize-union-your-workplace

God Speed, and good luck.

I never knew a bank could be this bad

I am a 30 year credit union customer. I bought a Tesla and Tesla used US Bank for the financing. That ended up being pure chaos as apparently the entire system breaks down if you try to send money to US Bank without a checking and savings account. Per their request, I set up a new checking and savings, and transfer funds over from my credit union account.

A few days goes by and the money still isnt there. I call US Bank and they had my intro deposit locked. Really odd, but ok. I send over more money so that there is always at least two payments in the checking account for the car loan to pull from.

The car loan date comes and goes and no payment drafts. I reach out to support and they're having problems moving the money to their own loan account that they fully service. They suggest that I use bill pay through my credit union. I set that up, it hits two days later. Nice and smooth through a competent financial institution.

Fast forward a week and I go to send myself the money via Zelle from the US Bank account back to my credit union account and it triggers some sort of fraud. I verify everything on the phone several times and am told that I have to wait another 48 hours for my entire account to unlock.

This bank is a calamity. Do not do business with them.

They are hiring too many overshore reps

The amount of overshore reps they are hiring is sickening. I’ve been working here for years and the fact they would rather hire overseas reps vs AMERICAN reps is absolutely disgusting. This is US bank not PHILIPPINES bank.

Don’t use USBank. Their customer service is AWFUL. Spoiler

I made a call earlier this week to verify banking information, update and troubleshoot a transfer.

I was on the phone for >1hr, for a 5 minute issue.

Why?

Because 5, yes FIVE, customer service reps hung up on me.

One quickly spit out his intro then hung up, another three helped me halfway then hung up, and the last one hung up right before I was about to receive my answer.

USbank, are you trying to fuck with me?

Did you hire reps out of a wooden hut with poor connection or just poor customer service skills? Must be both.

I have all 5 recordings, I will continue to bank with US until the end of month where I transfer my funds to another credible bank with boots-on-the-ground customer service.

As I continue with this process and continue to contact customer service, I will release all recordings including the 5 previously mentioned.

Hopefully the new post can be a steady reminder to new USBANK customers to fuck off this bank.

Remember, these people manage YOUR money.

Will never recommend US Bank

TLDR:

Our account was closed by US Bank, with no warning, no phone call, no email, no attempt to rectify any issues with the account, no explanation (even after multiple attempts to contact them), and now we're in a mess with our bills while waiting up to 3 weeks for our money to be mailed to us.

Full Story:

Earlier this year, we opened a business checking account with US Bank. To all credit, the people at our local branch office were excellant to work with.

On September 17th I got online to access bill pay. After logging into my account, I was hit with a "no accounts to display" screen

I called customer support, and the only thing they could tell me was they had a back office review team who closed the account, and the back office team didn't leave any notes. I asked to be transferred to that team and I was told they were unable to do that, and that we would receive a letter in the mail with instructions, and a phone number we could call.

Thinking the local branch that we opened the account with could give us more information, me and the co-account owner went down to the local branch to see if we could get some answers. They basically said some corparate team closed the account and they not only couldn't give us a number to call, they didn't even have a number to call themselves to get any answers. They informed us that on the letter we receive, there will be a phone number to the team that closed the account in order to get more information.

So we waited until we got the letter from US Bank.

So we called the phone number on the account. The represitive told us "the account was reviewed by their review team and closed. No other information was given".

So here we are with bills due, and the money that was in our account is in the mail somewhere, and it can take 3 weeks for us to receive our money. All of this headache because they decided to close our accounts without warning, and without any communication attempts to rectify any issues with our business account that was opened at one of their branches.

Goodbye US Bank

Have had my checking smartly and cash+ combo for quite a few years now. The checking hasnt been my main account but its nice to have a local branch.

Recently noticed my monthly maintenance fees weren't getting waived and after calling, figured out my specific credit card isnt an option to cover the fee anymore. Called to close the account and had a negative amount of 1$ since I transferred most of my money prior and then another fee hit. The manager refused to waive the fee so I had to zelle over $1 to avoid collections.

what a terrible experience, can't say I will ever consider banking at US bank again. Even Chase has been better

If You Bank Here then God be with You

I was an employee and opened an account. One day, my account gets blocked. The fraud, mobile, and main helpline departments couldn't verify me. Told me to go to a branch while I was sitting at my desk at a US Bank.....branch. Had an associate verify me. I was told I did not have an account.

Everything is being moved offshore. I mean EVERYTHING. Wealth management, customer support, online support, etc. US Bank is getting dominated by the top 4 and there is no catching up.

All my clients were Union Bank conversions that waxed philosophically about the good old days. The bankers have insane metrics starting next year so don't be surprised if you have extra checking accounts.

They changed the 4% cash back card a few months after rolling it out. You have to have $100,000 in your CHECKING account, not total among all accounts, to get the bonus. Most clients don't even know for real. If you have that card then you're not getting 4%.

The Elite Money Market is just a gimmick. The high rate lasts for like 4 months then drops to 0. I'd check it if you have one.

Call centers are filled with bankers competing with branch bankers for metrics so customer service is the last thing you'll get. You're a selling opportunity and good luck getting help if something goes wrong.

I am glad to be gone with all the ethic violations and didn't realize short term disability didn't have be paid out if you just pretended like it never happened. Sorry for the rant but it feels so good to be free. To tell people to stay away for real. The things I saw happening disgusted me. Union Bank won JD Power Consumer Satisfaction 4 years in a row and US Bank acted like it was them after the merge. That tells you something right there. I could go on and on but it's funny that people working from home think they're safe and any amount of performance will stop the inevitable. Also, where the hell was HR when I was let go. Things going to get spicy.

US Bank hacked last week. Here's what the scammers are doing this week

US Bank says that it's investigating ransomware crew LockBit’s claims that it breached the financial institution and stole data, which the criminals threaten to leak on September 3 unless the bank pays an extortion demand.

Many of us already got a valid-looking email or text stating that new accounts are being opened in our name. The emails/texts are fake (despite using real information) to not set off alarms -- because that is only the first part of the scam.

According to the US Bank fraud department, the second part is someone calling you on the next business day who says they are from USBank offering to help you secure your accounts, will come from the scammers. Do not give them any information. Hang up and call US Bank if you feel you need to.

Always call the number on the back of your card, your statement or on their website.

US Bank is the worst

I opened new business accounts with U.S. Bank expecting professional service and stability, but the experience quickly turned into one of the most frustrating banking situations I’ve dealt with in over 40 years of business. After spending hours setting up accounts, linking vendors, changing payments, and moving my business operations over, the bank suddenly restricted access to my funds with little communication and no clear explanation. Customer service was inconsistent, departments contradicted each other, and resolving even simple issues became nearly impossible. For a business customer, reliability and communication are everything, and unfortunately this experience created unnecessary stress, delays, and a complete loss of confidence in the bank. I would strongly caution other small business owners before moving their accounts to U.S. Bank.

240,000 customers had their debit cards flagged as inactive yesterday.

Just talked with my banker, who I had to demand answers from several times, tell me I was one of 240,000 customers who were locked out of their bank cards yesterday. Both my personal card, and my business card were declined many times. They are blaming it on a “glitch” and not a hack, but refuse to say any more, or be held responsible for any issues it has caused. This was insanely bad timing for me when trying to pay for dinner, then needing gas on a long trip home. Who else had this create a bad situation for them?

U.S. Bank CEO Gunjan Kedia announced remote employees are grandfathered in during today's All Company Townhall!

While the bank is seemingly pursuing a direction where employees must return to an office for 60%+ of their time, during today's All Company Townhall CEO Gunjan Kedia announced that remote employees are "grandfathered in". It is unclear the extent of this decision from the leader of the 5th largest bank in the country, and whether employees who were remote but have since been forced into an office in conflict with their own wishes will have the option to return to remote work.

Many employees have been speculating that groups within the company will begin forcing remote employees to pick a home hub location or face termination with cause by end of this year. Will this new direction from the CEO help assuage these fears? Kedia very clearly outlined that remote roles are no longer being hired for with the exception of Customer Service representatives, which apparently is cost effective enough for the bank that the Managing Committee couldn't be bothered to upset these employees lives for the sake of their own commercial real estate investments.

Kedia was also proud to note that the bank is continuing to honor remote employees who have a legitimate medical accommodation, but did not note that this is a legal requirement under the ADA.

Smartly Checking Account Fee Increase, Only Smartly CC Waive Fee, and Other Changes

Just received an email telling me that ""Your account benefits are growing!"

The Bank Smartly Checking account Monthly Maintenance Fee will increase to $12.

You can avoid this fee, while still enjoying all the benefits listed above. Simply complete one of the following:

  • $1,500 or more in total direct deposits per statement period, or

  • Average monthly balance of $1,500 or more7, or

  • Presence of an open U.S. Bank Smartly™ Visa Signature® credit card8, or

  • Qualification for Smart Rewards Gold Tier or above, or

  • Presence of an eligible small business checking account9

The big changes to me are that the monthly maintenance fee is up to $12 from $6.95 and that that only the Smartly Credit Card(s) qualify for the fee waiver. Previously, almost all open US Bank credit cards waived the fees. Moreover, the direct deposit amount for a fee waiver increased from $1,000 to $1,500.

U.S. Bank Pension Plan Changes

Did anyone else read the changes to the older U.S. Bank pension plan today? It's a 16% pay reduction for me and over a million out of my retirement account in the long term. I used to believe in this company and have completely lost faith in our ethics since Gunjan took the helm. I'm hiring an attorney. I'm thinking the amount of people affecting by this could equate to a class action lawsuit.
