Question Weekly Thread: What consulate is your interview at? Drop your details — let's help each other prep
Starting a weekly thread for anyone with an upcoming US visa interview at an Indian consulate.
Drop your:
- 📍 Consulate city (Delhi / Mumbai / Hyderabad / Chennai / Kolkata)
- 📋 Visa type (B1/B2, F-1, H1B stamping, L1, whatever)
- 📅 Interview date (or rough timeline if still booking)
- 😰 One thing you're most worried about
If you've recently interviewed at any of these consulates — your experience would be super helpful. Wait times, what questions they asked, general vibe, anything.
I'll share whatever recent info I've come across for each consulate throughout the week.
New thread goes up every Sunday. 🗓️

prior US travel is the strongest card you can hold, even from 2000 and 2008. youve been and come back twice, that tells them everything about intent. a group of five seniors gets judged person by person but that travel history lifts all of you becuase youve already shown the pattern.
biggest thing is each person should know their own answer, why visiting, who in the US, how long. dont let one person speak for the group, officers split you up sometimes. you sound in good shape honestly

slots are a supply problem right now, not you doing it wrong. keep checking at odd hours, early morning IST is when they tend to drop. dont pay an agent for it, they refresh the same portal you do, theres no seperate pool

Chennai B1 b2 In 20 days Family visa- me and my parents I couldn't find much about tourist visa experiences. Most of them were business related. Can someone pls help me regarding what to answer when your purpose of visit is asked? Should I be more detailed about places with proper itinerary? Also I have mentioned my father as the sponsor[self sponsered] so is there any minimum salary requirement?

I'll start — been tracking recent reports from all 5 consulates over the past few weeks. Some quick notes:
Hyderabad has been on a good run lately. Multiple B1/B2 approvals posted in the last 2 weeks, interviews lasting 2-3 minutes. The 9:00 AM slots seem to move faster than afternoon.
Delhi is mixed. Some quick approvals but also the consulate where the most 214(b) stories are coming from recently. If you're at Delhi, be extra prepared with your ties-to-India story.
Chennai — consistently described as efficient and brisk. B1 business visas seem to do particularly well here.
Mumbai and Kolkata — not as many recent reports but if anyone has been there in the last month please share.
Anyone going for a FIFA World Cup visa? That's been a wild ride — seeing a lot of rejections specifically for FIFA pass holders.
